Just a quick NOTE to the idiots who can't read. The Albemarle officer hit the man by mistake! The Charlottesville officer wrote the ticket! That's 2 different departments Officer Davis had nothing to do with the ticket. So yes he did hit him accidents happen. But he was not the one that wrote the ticket. Cops can been mean but I know for a fact this one is a good person.

Check your laws, under every circumstance the pedestrian has the right of way when in a crosswalk. It is the drivers responsibility to watch for people crossing the street. The law only says that a pedestrian cannot cross when it is imposable for a driver to stop. The police car was turning left so the pedestrian was already halfway across when the cop entered the intersection.

If he is already in the crosswalk, there is no circumstance where the wheelchair is at fault.

Ticketing the guy in the hospital was just stupid and the judge ripped up the ticket. The cop should be jailed.

Because running over then assaulting, not calling a supervisor or law enforcement (you cannot investigate an accident your involved in) and not calling EMS. Then ticking the victim when you the driver is careless/reckless in your failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, then leaving the scene of an accident with injuries (a felony) is wrong? @DanceRooster There's not enough information in the video to prove that's an assault. Did you ask the victim whether the cop asked his permission to put him back in his wheel chair? If not, then you can't infer that based on the video. You keep making that assertion, but where's the evidence?

Obviously the cop was wrong about the ticket, because he made an illegal left turn. I think he should have been charged for issuing that citation with "Filing a false police report".

The guy in the wheelchair wound up in the hospital so an ambulance should have been called by the cop. Not by bystanders after the cop fled the scene. If this was a 16 year old that did this would you be questioning if it was wrong? Cops are not above the law, they need to be held to a higher standard not the lower one everyone that defends them seems to hold them to.

I think the cop is absolutely wrong, but I don't think the video shows everything that you claim it does. My question to you, that you still have not answered is whether you have additional information, as in whether you were one of the witnesses or had spoken to the victim... I've never asserted that the cop was in the right, I only asked what you had to back up your claim.

@DanceRooster My point is unless you have more information than the video, you don't have enough evidence of assault to convict. If you have the victim's word, I'd accept that. But you haven't shared that detail with the rest of us It looks like at the end of the video, it shows the cop pulling into a nearby parking lot, rather than being in the middle of the road. Do you have the rest of the video to show that he did indeed leave the scene? Moving your car off the road is what you should do.

If the light wasn't green in the direction parallel to the sidewalk, how would it have been legal for the cop to make a left turn? It wouldn't have been. To make a left turn, the light facing you must be green (basic driving instructions), therefore the light facing the pedestrian was green. And because pedestrians always have the right of way, the guy in the wheel chair was right.

Hitting anyone is wrong. And if you don't know what you are doing...call for help instead of possibly doing something to the person's neck, spine, regardless if they are handicapped or not. The officer here had no right to fine that guy when it is he that should be fined. The officers had not an idea how to move this guy. Sure they may not have hurt him...but what if they had?
