I have a real problem with the pure evolutionary view of psychology. Psychology is what explains behavior and infanticide is a behavior. It seems to me that from each individual lion's persepctive the prospect of survival of them and the species is not foremost on their mind. The Lioness is saying: "Get the hell away from my cubs." The male lion is saying I'm gonna make you my horny bitch by killing your cubs. Kill cubs. Female goes in heat. Lion gets laid. Behavior reinforced via reward.

I have a real problem with the pure evolutionary view of psychology. Psychology is what explains behavior and infanticide is a behavior. It seems to me that from each individual lion's persepctive the prospect of survival of them and the species is not foremost on their mind. The Lioness is saying: "Get the hell away from my cubs." The male lion is saying I'm gonna make you my horny bitch by killing your cubs. Kill cubs. Female goes in heat. Lion gets laid. Behavior reinforced via reward.

Ofcourse they do, what makes you have the right to choose what every animal is deserving of, its part of life, if all the lion cubs werent killed. there would be such a huge population of lions and an even larger records of vicious ones due to the constant fight for territory. The lions do it with INSTINCT because they know another living cub means another living adult soon which means a larger threat as itll be younger than the lion.

Go look at what "Missnoopuka" said about this being a "sickening video taken just for the rating". Her view is that someone should have stepped in and stopped this lion from killing the cubs.
I know it's done because of instinct, but you get these animal rights activists bitching and complaining about their instincts, and how we should intervene from them doing what they've been programmed to do.

@sosoasian natural selection is about survival of the fittest. maybe the cub's father had the better genes but was just too old to win. assuming the above is true (it's certainly conceivable), how is it beneficial from a genetic standpoint? it isn't. do not confuse selective breeding with natural selection

Why doesn't the lioness stick with the lion who would be the father? I highly doubt that lions think about their genes. They don't necessarily always recognize their own cubs.

i dont think so, male lions, brake necks so it will painfully and slowly die, that is what mostly does when it attacks hyenas, they brake their necks so the other hyenas could see how painfully they die

Um, it's skin pigmentation. Your arguing scientific prophecy in favor of skin pigmentation. If you were talking about merging cultures and technology in an age of information, that would actually be quite credible.
But I'm taking a college level evolution course, and there is no possible benefits incurred on by skin pigmentation with today's mankind.

well your not completely correct. One of the main reason why male lions do this because they do not want to protect the offspring of other male lions. There is alot at stake when it comes to leading a harem.
