They do it commonly since they dry out in almost all warm atmosphere that is not moist, while humans do it only so often when it is really hot, such as a desert. Having a human do it repeatedly is thus a little strange.
It's a nervous habit a lot of people have, so is blinking. People are nervous when they're in front of a camera, hence they have little ticks like licking the lips, blinking a lot, or whatever it may be. It doesn't make them an alien.
