Is there an update on how to make this work after Lion? I followed you directions EXACTLY as you outlined them, with precision and it did not work for me. The only difference is the OS. I am on Lion. Suggestions? Slight tweaks to the process?
hi there .. great video! just curious .. how did you make this kind of video where we can see you and what you're doing at the same time? also, the magnifying glass effect on where your mouse is going, etc. I'm very interested in learning this method .. thanks for your time. :)
Nice video. It looks like most of us have a different version of Automator. We have no "Other" option in the Action Library and it appears we have no way to import keystrokes into our workflows. In fact by searching the Web, several sources state you can't use keystroke commands in Automator. Yet, you clearly have them. Any ideas?
@TheTimyom You can select workflow or application... depending on which you'd like to make (select application if you want it to be a standalone). Then you can customize it. BTW... sorry for the super late response
Thanks for the video! Could you please tell me how you get your webcam to show at the same time you record desktop? And how do you get the nice magnify affect? :)
In my computer is no such file as ''Automator runner'', but can i use just the Automator?

HI HI HI. Sorry I havent responded to your comments.
Here's a quick fix for having automator perform keystrokes.
STEPS:
1) Add a "run applescript" action to your project
2) Replace "(* Your script goes here *)" with:
tell application "System Events" to keystroke "text here"
3) If you want to add COMMAND add "using command down" at the end:
tell application "System Events" to keystroke "text here" using command down

allaboutyourmac 1 year ago
I'm not familiar with applescript, but if you did shell scripting you could do something like:
say "hello `whoami`, welcome to your mac!";
The whoami is a shell command that returns your user name.
Do you have any idea how to trigger a script when you plug/unplug your macbook?
matt1746 1 year ago
@matt1746 Im not sure about that... but I do know that you can trigger applescripts from:
Terminal, RDP, Email, Applications, Workflows, iCal Events, Quickeys shortcuts and a whole lot more.
For saying your username... you can get that by setting a variable:
set the_user to the second word of (characters (offset of "Users" in path to ¬
preferences as string) through (length of (path to preferences as string)) of ¬ (path to preferences as string) as string)
