  • jajaja.... ese bajo es uno de los mejores que he tenido... en nungun momento hay vacio, saludos! :D

  • sounds like a cooler version of the Seinfeld intro.

  • Yeah, I need a t-40. Good for a first bass? I have the guitar the t-60.

  • T40 props!

  • Your teaching is brilliant.

  • nice t-40

  • went to a music store couple a days a go and as i saw a wall full of a basses, a thought....marlowe has more basses ;)

  • such a beautiful bass! might i ask what maker and brand it might be? i cant see well

  • you should buy a carvin sb5000..by far one of the best jazz basses ive ever played or even a lowend jazz

  • This video made me realize that stoner rock is just funk slowed down.

  • This bass... I always was a Peavey fan, but now i'm Peavey LOVER!

  • `sa mga mahilig lets rock. :)

  • Go head MarloweDK with your bad self. We call that Gut Bucket Funk. Hey check out my Nobody Funks Like Finn old school funk posting.

  • Every slap video should receive Thumbs Up

  • I have a fairly new ibanez 4 stringer this inspires me!

  • Steve Jobs playing bass...

  • I heard people who cooked their strings or something after they started sounding bad. They said they could use it for another 6 months or so then. Is this true? as bass strings are quite expensive xd

  • im currently holding this bass in my hands... well my lap. but still, im very surprised my favorite youtube bassist actually has a T-40

  • Where did you buy your t-40 and or where is a place that would sell them and i could try it out

  • @slimzkeebler They dont make t-40s anymore, but they're pretty common. Most likely, a couple of the pawn shops in your town have one that you can try out.

  • 4 people dont know nothin about bass

  • It's nice that the tuner is always on in the background haha

  • You ever Broke the 4th string?

  • Great playing, great groove. I just put down my T, same finish as yours. Gotta love 'em.

  • DONT EVER GET RID OF IT. its beautiful!

  • What's your bass?

  • Nice T-40

  • I like slap bass ^^

  • my band director plays a t-40..i hate it. lol

  • @TheSoSGaming

You just hate it cuz you can't handle the pure man-tone, lol.

Just messing with ya man, not trying to troll.

  • @mikeymacaque

naw, its just hers is so messed up...lolthe neck is bent, action waayyyy to high,, and the jack comes out..

  • what you ca don with just 4 strings is just great, thanks for your videos man

  • @MarloweDK Thanks a lot for this lick, really cool and not so hard to learn.

Keep going the hard job it's awesome !

  • This is so juicy

  • Heh. Do the bus stop!

  • @tthom580 Yeah, now you say it I can hear the similarity, not intentionally though:_)

  • @MarloweDK Course not. You listen to enough funk and eventually one's gonna slip by you. Awesome playing. I started learning how to play bass by your videos about 4 years ago and your tips and impeccable taste in funk were extremely helpful. After I saw the videos you did of "Glide" by Pleasure and "Hair" by GCS it gave me something to drive towards being able to play.

  • @tthom580 Great to hear:-)

  • @tthom580 yeah man totally, i like like licking ass to marloweDK

  • great tips Marlowe

    awesome Peavey bass

  • M8, the best groove! ;)

  • great groove - even this bass sounds great when you play it

  • I would absolutely love to see a video of every bass you own.

  • that peavy is a hell of a rockin' bass!!!! great sonic character!!!

  • Im really glad you started explaining your videos it helps alot

  • Great job!! ^_^

  • I just love how the amp's tuner keeps trying to show every note you play

  • That has to be the sexiest and phattest sounding "A" string that I've ever heard. It sounds like it merely gets sucked up by air when he thumps the D on the A string.

  • in your opinion which are the best strings for slapping tone?

i'm playing a fender american jazz bass, also what kind of set up

    do you prefer?low or high?

  • I think that if you strung up a broom and fishing line you could make that sound incredible, too. Thanks for another great video, Thomas!

  • Another good exercise once you get the hang of this lick is to try from the C instead of the open D.

  • Nice, Marlowe. After working through several videos I'm starting to get the hang of the slap and pop thing, and it's nice to finally be able to just relax and jam out for a while. The notes for this funk stuff are simple, it's just a minor scale, but that's not the point. It's all about the groove.

  • this is so funky i wouldn't have been surprised if i'd needed some system upgrade to watch it

  • Whoooooo...somebody open a window...it just got all kinda funky up in here!!

  • what model bass is this?

  • WoW welcome to the Peave club!!

  • Peavey? I can't really read the headstock.

  • Marlowe - how does that T-40 rate compared to the rest of your basses? I'm thinking about buying one off a site. Yours sounds pretty good.

  • @Crabsdonthum It sounds quite good , but is VERY heavy. Its got character though. Nothing compares to Fenders IMO

  • @MarloweDK Peavey is French for "Heavy". Thats been the running joke for the last 30 years . Always cheap and reliable though.

  • @MarloweDK nooo o; my heart is broken... MarloweDK is fender religious :(

  • love all the post Marlowe. Always inspire me to pick up my bass.

  • I recently put a sadowsky onboard preamp in my MM4 and it sounds like a monster. What a huge difference. It really does have the MArcus sound now. I'll be getting my stingray soon. Cannot wait to compare. I love the Fender Jazz necks though.

  • i'm haveing a hard time finding the tab for this on your site.

  • @gleaken17 Follow the link, but you need to register on the site to download (its free )

  • It sounds a lot like... pluck... by marcus miller. Still awesome though xD

  • I love your style and sound man. What gauge string do you use?

  • What bass head and cab do you use? It has such a nice tone

  • I love your lessons man.

  • Although I am not a Peavey fan. It sounds good. Do you prefer the Marcus Miller or the Stingray Classic?

  • @dslapster64

Dude, stingray without a doubt. Perfect neck, perfect sound, very comfortable, easy to use, plus they're simple yet elegant. Plus they've got that killer birdseye neck. The Marcus Miller doesn't have THE sound, plus I don't like the controls or the neck, too thin and curved. plus the inlays are ugly and I don't like the finishes. Finally, NOBODY likes single coil hum

  • love the slap pop, I'm not that bad at it. You inspire alot.

Quick question, how do I groove?

    Haha, I know dumb question.

But I feel like I'm stuck in this stage where everything I play just sounds cliche or too simple. I'm always playing roots, octaves, 3rds, and 5ths, but I cannot seem to get creative.

  • Man, T-40's are the shit, people always tell me it is bad for slap, but you make it perfect for that.

  • @Orphen01 Yeah. Just like people that say you can't play mellow ballads on a Rickenbacker. You can get a beautiful mellow tone from them but people don't think so.

  • Nice groove!

Is that a new bass, I haven't seen it in any of your videos before.

  • I'm gonna incorporate this lick right now, and am gonna use it for a quick jam with my band tomorrow. Really nice and tight groove!

  • Man, those strings sound brand spanking new :D

  • @mbrsart Well. they are:-)

  • @MarloweDK Question then.. how often should one change their strings?

  • @ajcrm125 When they are dull and lifeless, depends on how much you sweat too

  • @MarloweDK Hmmmmm I don't think I've changed mine ever. Like... in years.

  • @ajcrm125 I change mine every other gig, I am in a cover band and play 3 1 hours sets, between sweat, beer and bar food I get lot's of nastiness on my strings. DR fatbeams are my choice!!!

  • you've made me a fan of TC Electronic amps. those things are amazing!

  • What a funky rest!

And the fret D/open D change is groovy stuff too.

  • thnx 4 that

  • Hey Marlowe, you should be a guest teacher at Victor Wooten's bass/nature camp :)

  • nice :D

  • the T-40 sounds great, too bad the weight a ton..

  • Wish I had that bass guitar

  • hey Marlowe, another groovy riff.ive incorporated a pentatonic run-down at the end, ending on a D , on the A string.also with ghost notes, thumb and pluck.hey any more update on the slap bass lessons, also when is the dvd available.many thanks.i think i would like to do some skype lessons with you if you can send me cost ,and structure info.

    alterles@hotmail.com

  • wow man that sounds sick as!!!!!!!

  • I love my T-40

    1979

    Thing is a beast. <3

  • how do you achieve this "steely" sound on your bass do you need an active one??

i dont seem to find the correct confuguration on my amplifiers to make mine sound like this one i have a passive bass

hopefully someone will help me out :D

  • @Dervish4 New strings

  • @MarloweDK So much win.

  • @Dervish4 Depending on your bass, try a set of snarling dogs. They are exceptionally bright. Reason I say depends on your bass, you may have to set your mid equalizer down to a quarter.

  • @Dervish4

I saw MarloweDK reply to a similar Question in an other Video. I think this "Steely" sound appears because the Mike he is using for his voise, get`s some of the String sounds as well.

  • @kema1988 Yes that is true also, the microphone picks the room ambience which enhances the acoustic sound of the bass

  • what kind of effect pedal is that?

  • @tjruler102 im think about getting a boss ME-20B FX BUT I WANT TO MAKE SURE IM GETT MY MONEYS WORTH

  • @tjruler102 No effect pedals in this video, just mic in front of amp and new roundwound strings

  • That's the sexiest bass I have ever seen in my life.

  • @ChasePlaysBass1 uuuhhhnnnn

  • @ChasePlaysBass1 this is ugliest bass I have ever seen

  • nice peavey

  • great lick. i'm definitely going to work with this one into my practices. and that head is definitely useful in adding a visual display for each note, even though you cover it well on your own.

  • Awesome stuff Marlow ...

  • That little amp is cool with the notes showing ... handy!

  • @Pudsy440 Yeah built in tuner.

  • Who would give this a "thumbs down"? You're the man Thomas!

  • Sweet sounding bass, man!

  • The head at the back names each note as he plays them and is incredibly useful for figuring the bass paying (although he does explain). Keep using it. Nice Video!

  • This is very nice, to see tou play a good old T40. Couple of years ago you saw them a lot, for not much.. I always thought about getting one, just for the good old times sake.. of course it sounds great, when you play it.

  • you are my god :P

  • Well I got it down, sounds OK but can only do about 3/4 speed of your start speed ... I bow down to the mighty thumb.

  • tightttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt..awesome... I've learn so much from you... thank you again..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love this lick man, thanks :)

  • I just started to notice that you are putting tabs on your work now. Great stuff and thank you so much :)

  • Cool man, and I was wondering, how many basses do you own?

  • nice, man! very helpful

  • That is a sweet lookin (and soundin!) Peavey!

  • Not sure if the riff or the sweater is more funky. Dig it.

  • I'm not much of a gear guy, but I have to ask, what bass is that? It's looks remind me of the Ovation Magnum a little bit.

  • @olflatop Its a Peavey T-40

  • @JerryBeatFreak Cool, thanks! Apparently they're pretty heavy from what I read, but so cool lookin! I'm'a try n git me wunna these!

  • @olflatop Weight means sustain ;) I used to have a T-60 (guitar) but sold it without knowing better. Trying to find one again. But its quite hard unfortunatly.

  • Pisses me off, coz i cant bloody do it lol wish i had bigger hands!

  • @moviemad13 nobody has smaller hands than me buddy

though that doesn't piss me off, just practice normally and upgrade yourself naturally :)

  • @moviemad13 Practice alot and stretch your fingers, that's my advice.

  • @klobbson Thanks klobbson, i do have small hands, i cant play for very long. sometimes cant practice two days in a row coz my little finger is wrecked.

  • I should add, I really like this riff ... and it looks like one I might actually be able to learn ... haha Following your thumb technique to the letter has proven tricky ...

  • @Pudsy440 Wow, great to see you here, sir Pudsy :P

  • @RobertGraaf haha ... thanks ... good to see you ... I love to check in with Bass Professor Marlowe frequently.

  • Sounds like some VERY fresh strings.

  • 1 person is a drummer. -.- ppl disliking this vid should rot. man's epic

  • @ninjaxbassxkid why would a drummer not like slap bass, are you kidding? Maybe it's a guitar player. ... nice riff ... nice sweater ... the bass is OK ... :)

  • Peavey Bass any good?

  • @Chaz6993X any bass brand has got good stuff, even washburn or peavey... but of course their "high quality" basses cant be compared to a spector, warwick or dingwall basses

  • Funky lick on a funky bass! Back in the day when the T-40 came out, all of us who couldn't afford a Music Man bought the T-40 instead. That is a funky bass!

    ~Vince

  • nice!:)

  • Tight!

  • T-40 right? Very solid bass :)

  • yes.

  • Oh that's tasty

  • That Peavey Bass was my 1st Bass , it was to heavy though.

  • Damn

  • 3st
