  • ooh mine...this is really a great inspiring story...this story uplifts my soul and i'll say whatever storm , humiliation, sickness and even death of my body my soul will be well in Jesus...this is a powerful song and very inspiring story.....whatever happens it is well with my soul...this man has shared a great testimony and shown great faith in the LORD

  • I once performed the first verse of this song for my college Spanish class...in Spanish the first verse says "De paz inundada mi senda ya este" When my path is inundated by peace...wow. The chorus says "Estoy bien con mi Dios!" I am well with my God...precisely what this amazing song of faith describes. We are well with our God through Christ Jesus our Saviour.

  • I'm have a difficult time right now, but this hymn keeps going through my mind and I know that no matter what happens, if I trust in God and stand on His word then all will be well.

  • Horatio Spafford, if he didn't lose his daughters, we wouldn't have this song. God didn't take Spafford daughters so we could have this song, but God worked it together for His purpose..all to the Glory of Jesus Christ. To Him belongs all the praise.

    Bible says God comforts us so we can comfort others. How many people didn't give up in their situation because of this hymn of praise.

  • My brother, when he found he had stage 4 pancreatic and liver cancer, would sing this song as he went around the home. He had accepted Christ as his savior at the age of 12 years.

  • Wow.. though i've always loved this song I never knew the story behind the words... very sad...touching yet humbling! It's good to know that despite all that he endured he still had the courage to say "...It is well with my soul". I wonder how many of us have the strength to say that even in our times of trial.

  • The Atheist would say "What sort of evil God would allow the family of his follower to perish so tragically?" Well God is not evil. In heaven, I think, the Spafford family is rejoicing together at God's redemptive work in saving his family from an even great tragedy - Hell.

  • It's really well with my soul. We're going through a difficult time and this song always makes me strong. Despite all the sadness in this man's life he went on to help other people. God is good.

  • Woah this is amazing! He went through so many tragic things but that just made him praise God even more! A lesson for all. I was just sad and I watched this and thought "if this man can go through so much and still praise God, why am I even sad?" this is so cool!

  • Who is singing in this video? I've been looking for a good version of this song to get for my computer. This is my favorite hymn. It helped me get through my seizure, my dad's death, and everything else that went wrong in my life. Whenever I feel bad, this song pops into my mind and I feel better. But I've never been able to find a version I liked to put on my computer. But I like this guy. Do you know who it is?

  • Horatio and his wife went on to have three more children after this, but the son died in infancy. Also, after the fire that destroyed Chicago, he helped to rebuild it.

  • Let the makers of of 'Zeitgeist' tell Horatio Spafford that Jesus is a myth. No myth gave him the inspiration to pen this beautiful hymn, and it wasn't a myth that called me out of darkness into his marvelous light.

  • this was a very beautiful hym.To know that the person who wrote this song went through tragedy,death,and many hardships but still kept his commitment to god moved me in a way that i cant describe.By the way the people who sang in this video sang very nicely together.The video and music was good too.

  • I find suffering hard to take too. This man seemed to see beyound his suffering. What faith, what hope he had. I enjoyed 1 Peter 1:3 which says that we have been regenerated unto a living hope, and this hope is none other than the Lord Jesus. He is our hope in this age, and the next to come. Many times we can't see that He is the real blessing, He is the real joy, the real rest. Lord keep opening our eyes to see and love You above the circumstances that You allow.

  • @ikvasa Sorry but I have no simple answers…I live in China and see people suffer all the time… my American friend just had his wife die 4 weeks ago my father has cancer…I have been to the slums of the Philippines and seen people dieing without food and medical attention. But through it all I do see God/ Jesus as a center post a strength that holds people up during difficult times.

  • @ikvasa . The world is not perfect…but if we give our lives to Jesus he will help us in times of trouble and suffering. I have also seen how a good church helps and uplifts people during times of trouble. Many of us rallied to my friend whose wife died…and bring him comfort. I’m not sure what country you live in but I would look for a good local church to help you find Jesus in your time of sorrow.

  • The amount that he endured...then to turn around and say "it is well with my soul" is just amazing. I think a lot of people could learn a lot from Horatio Spafford. Praise God for such examples, I know people who go though trials but nothing like he went thought but they can't seem to just give it up to God, but this man is just amazing. thank you for posting the wonderful video

    Job lost everything: kids home business even his wife left him, even his friends blamed him. You know what is the worse, is when you go through a serious situation like Horatio Spafford did, and than those closest to you blame you and say you are at fault for your loses..Job even lost his sanity and health.

  • @christovercame My friend I don't think you could insult Job. It's not a contest about how much someone suffers, it's what they do with it. When a person loves and trusts God enough to have this kind of faith something mighty cannot help but be the result. We were created to worship the Father and this is one of the most worshipful things I have ever heard of. Praise God for the lesson learned!

  • @christovercame Whoa there, brother...are we really comparing sufferings as hashmarks of righteousness? There is nothing wrong with comparing Horatio Spafford's testimony with Job's...BOTH are examples of knowing the peace of God in the midst of severe trial.

  • i said this same wsords whenmy husband left me cos i got miscarrige. due to that he refuse to go with me to my immigration interview. i was dney for a green card. he went on and withdraw all the money in our joint account($2245) i cried when the bank said they can not do anything about it. it is well with my soule is all what i said

  • It IS well with MY soul. I can't find a better way to say it. I hope that you'll make it well with your soul. Do it soon. You never know when HE, God Almighty, will take you to Heaven or Hell. If you haven't made it right with God today, then your going to HELL. Make it right with HIM so that you may go to Heaven and sit by God's throne every day, walk the streets of gold, and worship HIM everyday for all eternity. It's your choice. You can worship Him for eternity or suffer for eternity.

  • One of my favourite hymns...Truely a moving life story. His continuous faith in God is surely a testimony to us all.

  • During intense grief or stress, psychological coping mechanisms sometimes help the person cope and cause the person to say or do things that are contrary to the person’s personality and beliefs. There is also “Whistling by the graveyard”. What I find most striking about Mr. Spafford is that AFTER this tragedy he served God as a missionary. His behavior over the long haul was consistent with what he wrote during a time of great stress. He really believed what he wrote in this song.

  • this man lost all his daughters and a baby, his, practicly , whole investment, this man could have easily blamed God for all the tragidy that happened but even though he walked through that broken road. he still LOVED GOD. and he probably looked up to heaven to say IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL!   • I love this song we listen to it a lot in church im only 15,but i love going to church and inviting people to church and my teacher for sunday school sings this he sings really good and i love to sing along with this and many other gospel song i have been in and out of sooo many churches,but i finally joind this church call Grace Baptist Temple and its a wounderful church and i learned or i think i know wat this song means and i just wanted to say thx this song helps me when im sad thx again!

  • People sometimes deal with a traumatic event by psychological denial for a period of time, and consequently may appear on the surface to be at peace during that time. That was not the case here. Spafford experienced tragedy and hardship over much of his adult life, and yet maintained his commitment to God. His faith was the real thing.

  • If after such tragedy someone can remain faithful then there is all the more reason for the rest of us to do so. Sinner though I am, I know that the only way to salvation is through JesusChrist Lord.

  • I had to go through my first officer involved shooting last Sunday morning. It was a challenge...but this is what saved my life! The challenges we face can all be met by our trust in God and his grace upon us! Thank you so much!

  • This song makes me fall to my knees, almost making me cry. Every night my dad would come home depressed because of this economy. Almost to his knees he doesn't doubt at all.   • Some extra information:

    Spafford had 8 children. The first son died from scarlet fever when he was a small child. Some years later, before they went to Jerusalem (they had lost their 4 daughters in the boat accident) , they had two more children, a boy and a girl. The boy died the same fate as the first son. So much tragedy happened in Horatio Spafford's life and yet he was able to write this song and be a strong believer in it.

    That is the truly amazing thing.
