OMG is it 32 years! We used to holiday on Gorse Hill between Conwy and Betwys y Coed, and this was one of the songs in the car . . . .many arguments between brothers and sisters
Love this song big time. I'm just disappointed that it never gets any air-play on the radio these days (unless you choose it for Steve Wright's Non-stop Oldies).
great song so long ago now 32 years ago now god where does time go ! austrillian folk group they were the singer always reminded me of my cousin anna the hair ecspecally bless
My mum and dad used to have a caravan in Conwy nr Bangor at the time this was out and me and my sis always used to sing this in the back of the car on the way there at weekends .. happy times
Ian Telfer (fiddle) and Alan Prosser (guitar) serving their apprenticeship before moving on to greater things with Oysterband, possibly the finest folk/rock band ever.
Sorry to contradict, but the Oysterband had been in existence for some time before this recording was made. I can remember seeing them at Wadebridge as early as 1977 or 8.
@stamsr You must be right, though I think they played under a different name and the members were somewhat different by the time they became known as the Oyster Band.
hahah my Dad was a bus driver and every year the guys at his work would borrow the company Private Bus and all go to seaside hehe. We used to sing this.
@Wordsmith37 Yes she was pretty . Why do you say her Christmass offering was a bit odd ? Mind you though is she on the vidio to that ? For is she is I can't spot her
Brilliant good time song, nothing to do with the political silly comments on here.A folk song with humour.Reminds me of the great days of Summer. We did Skegness and Mablethorpe. They did Bangor. Thanks a million for posting
Why do people just associate N Ireland with the troubles? Get a life! I am a Londoner and lived in N Ireland for the past 17years and feel safer here than some parts of the Eastend! Wonder how many of you have actually been to N Ireland!

Day trip to Bangor has been going around my mind all day, what a joy to hear you lot singing it ! Thank you, still fun after 31 years. Vernon Catcher.
The kids at my school had their own words, they were something like this "On the way back I stopped for a kak,and a nettle stung my arsehole I did a jig and didn't give a fig as the ground turned brown.
Anyone heard the version "Day Trip to Victor" - was a take on the original and recorded by Bazz, Pilko and Plussy who hosted a morning radio show here in Adelaide back in the 80's. I have still have the 45 single.
Obviously the Welsh Bangor. If it was the Northern Irish Bangor, they'd be singing:
Didn't we have a loverly time/The day we went to Bangor/A dangerous day/We got searched on the way/They thought we had a bomb on board/On the way back/we heard a sharp crack/and a rifle started firing/driving so fast to make our escape from the IRA!!!
@CLELANDBLUEBOY I think it must have said something different before and was then edited - not sure since it was a long time ago when I made that comment
I WAS 7 IT WAS MY FIRST SINGLE, I DID BUY, ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL BY PINK FLOYD BUT IT WAS SCRATCHED!! SO I EXCHANGED IT FOR THIS! HAY HO! YOU LIVE AND LEARN, REMINDS ME OV AIRFIX GLUE IN MY BEDROOM! SHOULD HAVE SNIFFED IT SPOSE!
After investigating it a little, using my magical music info methods, i have come up with the following :
* Duffy's Band - Day trip to bangor (1979), from Sydney, Aust. reached #9 in Melb & also co-charting with Fiddlers Dram version. (' Duffy Band ' was a temporary band name, made up with members of a real QLD group called " Buckskin " )
* Cathy And The Cucumbers - Day trip to Bangor, from New Zealand reaching there at # 13 and also co-charting with Fiddlers Dram.
We had lunch on the way and all for under a pound ,, those where the days sadly gone

There are lots alternative words to this song....
Something along the lines of... "On the way back we had a good cr*p and chundered all over the driver" But it was always meant to be a bit of fun.
Yes - I thought it was Maddy Prior who did this.
Great song.
MrKeefta 2 months ago
@MrKeefta
I was of the same thoughts that it was Maddy Prior singing.
Loved Your take on the lyrics.
My own favourite was "On the way back,They used My old c***k,To open their bottles of cider"
Lovely memories!

Cathy Lesurf was once part of the early Fairport Convention.
Fiddlers Dram became the Whitstable Oyster Company & Céilidh band, which is now the Oyster Band
Then again, it might just be the real ale clouding my memory :)

And all for under a pound, Leg over.
On the way back we snuggled with Jack and he pushed the bottle in cider.
