Undergraduate student life at the University of York

Got an offer. Not sure whether to put York or Sheffield as my back up. Advice?

Look guys, the point is to get a good RETURN on your money, and a chance for employment. Go to Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Imperial, Southampton or UCL. The other universities in the UK are just not worth it, moneywise, timewise, connectionwise, educationwise, careerwise...

Everywhere in the UK is dark, grey, wet, muddy and depressing in October through to March - its called winter. It also has beautiful leaves, awesome snow, crisp early mornings with pure azure blue skies. Oh and the architecture is pure bliss and thats all over, not just Oxford. Its a photographers delight.

If you think Oxford is a shithole I suggest you get travelling, and then you will truely see plenty of places far worse, and fine out what the word means.

@PhantomAct I think the girls are really cute in York, much more so than my previous University. The Uni has a certain appeal in Winter as well, but not as much when there's no snow. Right now it does look fairly depressing, but oh well. I really wish they'd at least TRY to make some of the older buildings look better.

Alright. Well here's the deal my friend, nobody gives a rat's ass until you contribute something to your field of research or to the world. Nobody cares if you went to York, Cambridge or Harvard. It doesn't matter how many ducks or how many old buildings there are on your campus. The vast majority of people that go to Harvard don't do anything useful, and trying to get on people's nerves on YouTube is also not useful.

My advice to you is that York is so shit that u absolutely need to graduate with a 1st. Otherwise transfer to a Russell Group uni right now and this will save ur future (job or Phd). @PhantomAct No, it's not, and I have three promising PhD applications, including two Russel Group universities. I also already have a job in my field and a startup company that does what I learned at York, so it wasn't useless at all, not by a longshot. Getting a 1st doesn't have anything to do with what uni you're at, you should ALWAYS aim for a 1st regardless, because that guarantees you are an expert and you are more appealing to employers.

1) Moving in with random people into a house is not only an experience you'll never have again, but one you'd never WANT to have again.

2) Costcutter is expensive.

3) If you don't do some sort of sport or society, you're socially fucked. Sink or swim. If you're an insular nerd like I was, you will, guaranteed, not get laid for the entire 3 years.

4) I wouldn't consider myself an all rounder after York. It turned me into an embittered, neurotic, history hating hermit on the dole.
