Although my heart goes out to anyone who is misfortune enough to experience any work related injury I still have to say it amazes me how it isn't common sense in most people to shut any type of machine down (or disconnect its power source) that has moving parts on it before you attempt to clean or service it. This simple mistake could cost you your job, cause you fines from safety organizations or cause you weeks/months/years of misery from a work related accident! Its just not worth it. =(
poor girle its just a horible way to be injured i had a freind had a freind hes dead beacuse he was fixsing a tank engine a it just started by itself his neck was cut he hardly surviived the night
Workers should be trained with the equipment they are required to use - no excuses. Don't be a fool pretending that everyone should know how everythink works, and/or that safety is built in. Those of you blaming the girl, shame on you and stay out of my workplace. You're apt to get hurt or hurt someone else.
firstly, no minors are allowed to use this or the mixer
second, the roller has a kill switch (a bar in front of the rollers)
third, you clean it with a tool that is a windshield ice scraper, but branded and white for sanitation reasons (so dumbass drivers dont scrape bugs with it)
forth, long sleeves and unrestrained hair arent sanitary
I worked at round table, and our shitty roller had several cutoff switches, but they didn't work, the machine would come on randomly, and the only way to finish a roll on time is to break safety rules.
I work at a rail yard in a refinery now, and its a hundred times safer there.
I am very sorry this happened to you, and I wish you the best. But I am sorry, putting your hands into a machine with moving parts is negligence. It's not the pizzerias fault, and I know OSHA guidelines, there was a warning on the machine "keep hands clear." Common sense will keep you safe 99% of the time.
I crushed 3 of my fingers in that exact same machine. I still have them but they were flattened out. I was a stupid mistake but as you can see, there isn't a lot of protection in the way of guards etc..that was 30 years ago. Thank go I still have fingers
i feel her pain, i had two finger tips cut off in wood shop my senior year, i got them sewed back on still hurt once an a while, but i didnt lose them so i consider myself very fortunate
My husband saved his shop teacher in High School when the teacher was demonstrating a wood lathe. His tie got caught and was choking him. My husband reached over, stopped it, backed it up and freed the teacher. Belgian dough sheeters, rollers, dough dividers and L800 Hobart mixers. I used them for over 25 years. I still have all 10 digits because I knew where and when "NOT" to reach into.
This young girl is obviously very upset by what happened. Hopefully she'll cope well soon. I wish her the best. I had three fingers cut off in an accident when I was seven. Ouch, it hurts. ZOMG, i feel her pain man, shes right tho, the badder cuts dont hurt at all, im 13 and i slicled a inch but to the bone on my thumb with an exacto knife and i didnt even know i cut it, till it bled down my shirt
You know, when the snowblower would get jammed frozen I would use a hockey stick in there to get it unclogged. Some machines are kinda inherently dangerous, seems common sense stuff to not stick your body parts in there. The only thing I can find in her defense is she mentioned she was tired that day. Big price to pay for an error of youth tho, I hope she's learnt from it.
dawn!!! thank God!!! I work in Food service and with a slicer!! with a blade its no lie its scary as hell!!! but I made sure I got trained on that Mutha F**ker!!! nodoubt!! for 5 years I only got 4 to 6 cuts and burns in the kitchen and not serious!! and I prayed before each work day!! and after for protection!!
This is why I have my daughter help me work on cars and things around the house, to show her what you don't stick your hand in. I'm surprised that garbage disposals don't have a big warning on the sink flange saying not to stick your hand in there, they get stuff in them you might want to clean out too.
i never thought that I would be squimish looking at blood but that re-enactment was pretty gory, something about fingers cut off which I can't stomach!
oh ok why and the hell would you put your hand in a freaking roller if you new it was there and i have one and it doesnt matter because thats what happened to mine and i kept working and it like dissolved after a month
I ll never forget how a guy in our company lost a foot. he passed a wheelloader which turned around and the theeth of the shovel hit through the leg anf cutted of the foot.
Proper training starts at home. Common sense should tell people not to stick their fingers into a machine like that. It really sucks that this happened to her, but it should not be blamed on lack of training alone.
Two things, First i would have been more worried about me not feeling pain and would have passed out from freaking out, Second my damn hand is starting to hurt and i don't know why.
Personally I would of turned off the machine then clean it. I dont see how they got a settlement. I think thats more common sense rather than training.
I think it's brave of her to do this video if it's true, even if it isn't true, this sort of stuff happens to young incorrectly trained people, weather it's true or not, that's not the point, it's the message of the video that's the point - to inform young employees of their rights as well as the dangers of working around mechanical equipment.
Dear CHILDREN: This is a SAFETY RE-ENACTMENT, meant TO EDUCATE. It does not show the actual removal of fingers. If they had set up such an event, to actually remove someone's fingers for the sake of making a film, this would be a seriously evil act, would it not?
Are you all REALLY this stupid? It is hard to imagine that you are.
this vid is fake. u could tell by the hand. why didnt u show the missing vingers. maybe u never lost them i littel liar. o wait u not littel i big plum.
But whilst it really does seem plausable as an accident, it might not actually be real. There isnt any evidence either way, and does it really matter? Its not really one of those things you can actually avoid, being an accident and all...People dont do this on purpose so these vids are pointless
Daaaaaaaaang this is the first video that is really graphic from this poster. I have had a similar injury and yes-it really looks a lot like that, it brought back memories thanks a lot lol.
I belive the story but I don't understand why she would of went to clean dough on the rollers without first stopping the machine. This common sense does not need traning and she should not have gotten any settkement over it. She should of used common sense!!! Plain and simple. Its like me Forgetting to my car in park and going to open the trunk and the car rolls backwards on me, and I sue Ford.. Do you think I should win?
This is real, I was shown this presentation at my School in surrey, BC. This really happened to her, and this video is part of a 17 minute one, that includes 3 other accidents, one being with the guy a 0:54. I go to Ecole Panorama Ridge, and this video is shown to grade 8 and 10 highschool students.
Me too. And I keep watching all the related videos... I work at a large retail hardware store and now I'm practically scared to go back in tomorrow. Most of the machines I work on are capable of doing quite a bit of damage if not resulting in death.
While I am careful about what I do, others around me may not be so observant.
I had my right ring finger go through a bike brake rotor. I didn't really feel a thing until I saw my finger. It was mangled and just hanging there. I kinda feel for what she went through. I would have rather had the rest of my finger taken though, it still aches to this day and its been about 8 months.
OFC ITS FAKE damn man if there was a camera man with it her fingers wrnt hurt that bad.... since someone was able to push the stop button........ you guys are REALY dumb to be honost......
Dude , to be honost the part where the cameraman recorded is a RECONSTRUCTION you dumb fuck , How old are you 8 ? + You call us dumb ? Woow .. you failed right there ..
It doesn't mean she got he fingers cleanly removed at the metacarpals, they were probably partially mangled and the surgeons removed them near the second knuckles. She would obviously be hiding that because she was embarrassed.
Alternatively, this may have been a staged video to show workers to scare them into being safe on the job. It's actually kind of hard to say. I can see this MAYBE being "fake", but at the least it is a scripted safety video for training purposes.
why would you try to clean dough off the drive shaft?? it's filithy with grease already, why bother to clean dough off it??? why go out of ur way just to clean it?????
look and pause at 0:14 she still has her fingers but when she sai "i dint want anyone to know" she quickly put her hand a little more fowarde admit it.
in my school was a boy how lost his hand in a machine the mchine was drilling and he want to change his wood to another place and he slips in the machine and cut of his hand
Lol.. When she pull out fingers from that machine, it is like hand of doll.. I now that is a fingers of doll, but I think this wideo is Fake..F A K E!!!xD
Why is it so hard to believe that someone can get hurt at work? The girl in the clip not giving the testimony was in a re-enactment (i.e. Not the real thing). I worked with hot grease in a deli and due to a splash of hot grease, the entire right side of my face had second degree burns, but I don't cry about it and I'm able to talk about it, even though my face is scarred over now.
It's a real story. Get off your high horse and deal with it.
With slack training I lost 13mm off the end of a finger in a machine with a hidden cable cutting device.
Initialy I thought I had just trapped it as I felt a pinch but as I pulled my hand away I realised it had cut it cleanly off. It didn't bleed instantly, it was like looking at the end of a swiss roll! But then there was a fountain of blood. I told my newly qualified first-aider mate I had cut myself and he ran off panicing! The hospital couldn't sew it back because the cut was too clean.
I didn't quite understand your comment. A clean cut (a slice cut if that is what you meant), is the kind that has the best chance for being reattached. You could sue the hospital if they told you something different.
This is really fake. Normally the girl wouldn't be able to even talk about it and i can see it in her eyes that she is talking bullshit ;D Just lol. This video is only warning to get safe workplace.
in woodwork in my brothers class they had just sharpened the chizzles and on of the kids slipped and cut his wrist open and they had to call an ambulance for him and he wasnt there for a week
and in my woodwork class one of the kids let go of his wood and it was on the electric drill and it shattered and we all dived to the ground but before we did one of the peices went flying inbetween me and my friend ( we were talking)drill bits were flying ( im in grade 8 and my brother is in grade 10)
Not necessarily, a Hawaiian girl, Bethany Hamilton got her left arm nipped off by a tiger shark. She didn't scream or anything, being in shock and "not really seeing the point" of screaming.
i was in woodshop the other day and my friend was workin on a board next to me with the radial arm saw. he accidently left an iron ruler underneath his wood. it pretty much shattered and a big sharp piece of it flew right past my head and stuck into the wall behind me. it was like a cheap horror movie
weird theres not even something on the chains:S if the machine gets new oil on the chains the oil would splatter on the roller and on the bread, and i guess there you have the secret ingredient!:P oil?
I've worked in fast food restaurants a long time. And I know ( in some fast foods ) that you have to be a certain age to use the electric food machines such as the electric slicer, etc.
i was working on a chain that had come loose, and instead of locking out, i put a guy on the controls to make sure no one turned it on since it was going to be a 2 min fix.
he asked if it was ready, and i said "no, dont turn it on". due to language barrier, i guess he thought i said its good or something, and turned it one...the teeth from the gear nicked my fingers....i was LUCKY!!!!
All experianced(older workers) should watch these young adults like a hawk. the work place is full of danger. Unguarded chain = big law suit, not a small settelment.
They could've at least put a guard on the damn chain.

What is it with some of you senseless fuckers blaming the girl. Do you honestly think she did it due to lack of common sense or laziness?
She was young, inexperienced and trying to do the right thing at her first job.
As a safety professional myself, it is OBVIOUS that the machine drive mechanism (chain and sprockets) should have been guarded.
'Blaming it on the worker' as the root cause of an incident went out decades ago you dumb shits.

Me too. And I keep watching all the related videos... I work at a large retail hardware store and now I'm practically scared to go back in tomorrow. Most of the machines I work on are capable of doing quite a bit of damage if not resulting in death.
While I am careful about what I do, others around me may not be so observant.
Sadly, common sense isn't too common.

I had my right ring finger go through a bike brake rotor. I didn't really feel a thing until I saw my finger. It was mangled and just hanging there. I kinda feel for what she went through. I would have rather had the rest of my finger taken though, it still aches to this day and its been about 8 months.

1:This is fake you could see she had all of her fingers, she should have done better hiding that hand.
2:its not the employers fault, you dont stick your hand in a dough roller..thats not lack of training its lack of common sence
Mississippi1313 3 years ago
It doesn't mean she got he fingers cleanly removed at the metacarpals, they were probably partially mangled and the surgeons removed them near the second knuckles. She would obviously be hiding that because she was embarrassed.
Alternatively, this may have been a staged video to show workers to scare them into being safe on the job. It's actually kind of hard to say. I can see this MAYBE being "fake", but at the least it is a scripted safety video for training purposes.

Naterator86 3 years ago

WHATEVER! i dont really believe that this is true
FireSwirls009 3 years ago
With slack training I lost 13mm off the end of a finger in a machine with a hidden cable cutting device.
Initialy I thought I had just trapped it as I felt a pinch but as I pulled my hand away I realised it had cut it cleanly off. It didn't bleed instantly, it was like looking at the end of a swiss roll! But then there was a fountain of blood. I told my newly qualified first-aider mate I had cut myself and he ran off panicing! The hospital couldn't sew it back because the cut was too clean.
NitroNoriFan 3 years ago
I didn't quite understand your comment. A clean cut (a slice cut if that is what you meant), is the kind that has the best chance for being reattached. You could sue the hospital if they told you something different.
YamadaKeisai 3 years ago

She would have to have been SCREAMING.... just SCREAMING.... if her fingers were being severed in the machine like that. Who wouldn't be?!?!?
drclean2000 3 years ago
Not necessarily, a Hawaiian girl, Bethany Hamilton got her left arm nipped off by a tiger shark. She didn't scream or anything, being in shock and "not really seeing the point" of screaming.

i was in woodshop the other day and my friend was workin on a board next to me with the radial arm saw. he accidently left an iron ruler underneath his wood. it pretty much shattered and a big sharp piece of it flew right past my head and stuck into the wall behind me. it was like a cheap horror movie
OatTheGoat 3 years ago
ugh that is gruesome...
Remember folks always turn off or unplug machinery if you want to do anything like that.

It wasn't fake. The showing of it was fake! You can tell by the hand. But it hapend to her for real!

weird theres not even something on the chains:S if the machine gets new oil on the chains the oil would splatter on the roller and on the bread, and i guess there you have the secret ingredient!:P oil?

I've worked in fast food restaurants a long time. And I know ( in some fast foods ) that you have to be a certain age to use the electric food machines such as the electric slicer, etc.
slmcgowan2003 3 years ago
been there, almost done that.
i was working on a chain that had come loose, and instead of locking out, i put a guy on the controls to make sure no one turned it on since it was going to be a 2 min fix.
he asked if it was ready, and i said "no, dont turn it on". due to language barrier, i guess he thought i said its good or something, and turned it one...the teeth from the gear nicked my fingers....i was LUCKY!!!!
this girl....was not.

All experianced(older workers) should watch these young adults like a hawk. the work place is full of danger. Unguarded chain = big law suit, not a small settelment.
