120 mph is probably as fast as she will go but who cares? Searey flying is about fun. In best conditions, I go from idle to off water in 7 seconds and 200'. Search youtube for seareystol if you want to see. I have landed in ponds smaller than 1000'.
I talked to a guy that has a 914 on a sea rey and he said it doesn't top out at 120mph but since the rules say lsa amphib's can't go faster than 120mph that's what they publish
I built my Searey, have flown it for 3 years now. Absolutely a terrific airplane. Even better is the community of Searey fliers. Try opening the canopy and hanging your arm out on the Seamax...not possible. Instead, you cook inside a bubble canopy. Try them both and decide which is about fun and which is about pretty. Then come to a Searey fly-in and meet the new-extended family.
'Got 1900+ landings on water in this model, 200 hrs SES, 20K hrs total time.
No other amphib is even close, pitted against the 'Rey design, superlative owners' groups, superb factory support.
Gear discipline is simple: retract immediately!
Flying with Kerry is a treat every pilot should have on his/her bucket list, the best value in all of aviation. He dances it around on the water like other people can maneuver jet skis!
I love my basic '01 SeaRey, look forward to owning an LSX!!
What a beautiful airplane, it ought to redefine the term flyfishing. If I were more financially secure I'd love to have one but I'd rather build it myself ...
you'd be surprised at how many of these great aircraft have crashed because the pilot left the gear down on a water landing...I think the computer senses the airspeed (and knows you're about to land) then asks you what position you want the gear in...it would be hard to forget to retract your gear with that system!

I have the 912s. Hundreds of these flying, several with thousands of hours on them. You can build yourself or have factory build.

@KenLeonard Do you have a 912s or a 914? Do you know if the 914 really tops out at 120mph?

Very cool plane. If the landing gears happen to malfunction, you can still land on the sea safely. :)
