Bleaching & Light Ash brown Hair

If i bleach my hair and it turns orangey blonde, can i still dye it light ash brown? I wouldn't mind it turning a little darker but would it totally ruin the colour?

You know exactly what youre talking about! the first time I ever bleached my hair I did everything you said not to do and my hair literally fell in clumps. It felt gummy/soft but you could tell it was damaged by how frizzy and tangled it was, I had to go to a professional to get it fixed and that took about 4 HOURS...it was horrible. The best tip I can anyone watching this video or any other hair video is if you cant afford to go to a professional you cant afford to do your own hair either!

i get my hair dyed just for fun and changing my style from time to time. it is sometimes not on the ground of beauty purpose at all. i used to be brown, light brown, dark blue, dark green, velvet, red, or orange (which i like the most). to think that doing beauty staff is to pretend to be someone else is maybe too racist, i think. I know what you mean about the ashy tone being washed off after a few washes - I have ash blonde highlights and unfortunately the ashy tone disappears after a while and a yellow tone remains >.<;;; I liked how you explained the process so thoroughly in this video, it's very helpful and I think this colour suits you beautifully!!! ~<3

I always have trouble getting ash tones to stay in my hair too. Mine is faded and reddish tint right now haha. I have that bleach too! the big one cause its so good lol. Your supposed to use plastic clips not metal because the metal reacts with the peroxide btw.

for the color brilliance ion, did you use permanent dye? 'cause, in case anyone is worried about the damage, if we bleach our hair and it's already super light, using demi perm dye would be good as well, much less harsh and damaging, but it just won't stay on as long

another fyi u might be interested in. if u use ash tones on the yellow blonde hair, it can turn it green. ash is only to be used on the orangy/red tones. purple tones are used to brighten the yellow blondes & turn them more white. & it doesnt matter if u bleach & color your hair on the same day or wait til the next day. unless u r spacing it out 2 weeks or more u arent going to have enough natural oils to matter. & damaged hair doesnt hold color very well, which is why it fades. hope this helps!

@learningthis1 i have never used the clairol shimmer line, so i am not sure. but if you are wanting to neutralize brassy tones, then you will need to use a color that is ash based. your best bet is to go to sallys beauty supply because you can get better products, and the price isnt much different then buying the boxed stuff :) hope this helps!

eki - just an fyi - you shouldnt use metal clips when coloring your hair, especially with bleach. the metal can cause the chemicals to reach funny. they sell plastic ones at sallys as well :)

I THINK if you want to keep the ash tone you could use a purple shampoo (it tones your hair) like Clairol Shimmer Lights which you can find at Sally's. I'm not sure because I've never used it but I have heard good things about it.

Eki Chan~ You can use colour correcting shampoo's to maintain the hair colour~ =) for Blonde it's Violet shampoo, im not too sure about the others~ but when i heard you say that your blonde went more to the yellowy orange tones, only colour corrective shampoo's can eliminate these problems~ =D

@MrBubblygoodness A developer develops the hair dye color and allows the color to penetrate the hair shaft. Hair dye won't actually color your hair without the developer. If you've never colored your hair before, don't do what she does. Either buy one of the boxes you see in the grocery/drugstore or see a professional. A professional is better because they can take into consideration your hair type and situation as well as the color mix and time; however, they are more expensive than the former.

@MrBubblygoodness developer is what is used to process the color. it comes in 10, 20, 30, 40 volumes. its what you mix with the color or bleach to lift your color and then either deposit color or strip all the color out. the darker the hair, the stronger the developer you will need. or if the hair is very resistant to color.

@MrBubblygoodness a developer is what you mix with the color. you can get it in 20, 30, and 40. if you have dark hair you will need a 30 or 40 developer to lighten it like blonde. but if you are only going a few shades or are already light colored hair you use 20. it helps bleach the hair basically. if you use developer with bleach powder by it self it will lighten your hair with no color needed
