A little inter-active training activity for you that might clarify this. Stand facing someone while you both hold unloaded guns (toys that make a click will do). Have the other person hold his gun down, while you point yours at him/her. Have the other person, on his mark, raise the gun and shoot. Count how many times he shoots you before do. Guess what? Your dead.
