  • I LEARNED 300 KANJI AND THEN THEY DECIDED TO MAKE ME AND ALL THE OTHER POOR USERS TO PAY FOR IT, IF WE WANT TO KEEP ON LEARNING. I MEAN, THE SITE WAS FREE FOR SEVERAL YEARS. THE CEO OF iKNOW ANDREW SMITH LEWIS CAN SUCK MY BALLS. IT IS ALL ABOUT MONEY. NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO REALLY LOVE A LANGUAGE. FUCK Y'ALL.

  • You said it is free but when i went to the site its not free....

  • I hate how they took the free version of this and changed everything. -_- I know they want to make money and have a right to it, but I was having so much fun with my hiragana and learning well and then POOF new website, new fees and just all over crap... *sigh*

  • I'm wondering if they let you pay in dollars... or if they allow payment from outside of Japan.

  • @MikeyMage

    Dont worry!

You can pay in your currenzy!!

  • @MikeyMage If you have an iOS device (i.e: an iPhone, iPod touch, or an iPad), you can purchase a subscription directly from the iOS app that's available for it. Once you've burned through your 5 free trial sessions, you'll be asked to choose a subscription plan, Just select the plan you want, hit "Purchase," login with your iTunes account, and Bob's your uncle. Current pricing is $11.99 for a 1-month sub, $54.99 for a 6-month sub, or $99.99 for a 12-month sub if you're interested.

    Some help please!

  • Well, i set up an account on iknow.co.jp (which turns into smart.fm, right?) and it keeps doing weird things, like not saving my progress, and telling me to create an account to save it to, when i already have an account....and, doing weird things...am i missing something? ....

  • smart.fm WTF

  • THANKS! You are my new favorite person even though this was like 2 years ago. :]

  • I got a account and made a list, it's awesome!

  • this looks so cool! i created and account but i cant find where to make a list for myself..

  • YOU ARE SO COOL! Thank you much, this is a great help to make the most out of my study sessions!

  • I have been using this for around a year and a half now. its great, like seriously, everyone doing Japanese should use it. especially guys, because its scientifically that guys learn from visual things, like this site.

  • This site is amazing!Your amazing!

It takes the stress off my shoulders.

  • awesome!!! i'm kinda a person that memorizes using vision and likes games!!! perfect!

  • How do you type hiragana on there?

  • You can type Hiragana and Katakana, and Kanji too, using Windows via the IME keyboard mapping. It is a small thing if you search Google you will find a place that tells you how to set it up.

    あなたはすきです

  • This is like a more awesome version of Byki Express which is also free and has flash cards and such. Thanks for the upload!

  • Thanks a lot for the hints.

It's really a good website to learn Japanese.

  • Hey im taken jap 1 in my 8th grade class mind given me some lessons online?

  • I absolutely love Iknow. It has helped me sooo much.

  • where is the list on your website ?

  • Ur cute XD...wii I already know hiragana...so let's see that page...

  • どうもありがとうございました。

    このサイテにいきますよ。

    とっても便利です。

    また、ありがとう。

  • ありがと。。。

    おりがと。。。

    Which is thank you?

  • The top one is right, the bottom one isn't.

    (yeah it means thank you)

  • Yeah, I kinda thought so, I just would rather ask, then be misleading :D

  • the first one. A-rigatou.

    not O-rigatou.

  • Yeah, someone already told me which one it was... : /

  • THIS IS AWESOME :D

  • Do you have a Japanese keyboard?

Because I notice when you type, it is converted to Kanji, or at least I think, can you make a video about that?

  • you can do it even with an american keyboard. Download the software (that you probably got when you bought the computer) and add the language tool bar. Be sure to install the language first though. Switch the language bar to Japanese and output to hiragana and you have yourself a Japanese keyboard. You can very easily toggle between English and Japanese so it's not very hard to use.

  • I already have that, I meant when it converts everything to kanji or whatever.

  • there should be a line under it... Press the space bar. :)

  • whooo

    nicee.

    im so there, see ya!

  • now you can also learn other languages and stuffs like the human body ^.^ YAY

  • is the site free or do i have to pay?

  • It's free! I just made an account and it didn't ask me for any money. However, they changed the layout and name of the website a little since he posted this video. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, all the tools & such are the same. Just keep that in mind when you go. Have fun!

  • Read the description <.<

  • haha he is cute :P thanks for the site and stuff ^,^;

  • guys i need somebody to work with my team new site chat ... any skills uu get or anything contact me in youtube.. ..

  • Hahaha no. -.-

  • Your so cool man, I wish I could speak as good as you lol

  • how did you do that, with the letters.. at 1.53. that it goes automatically. i want that too, lol.

  • It always goes automatically... lol

Type in hiragana, then press enter, it changes it to Kanji =D

  • this is sooo helpful thank you!

  • Thanks for the info.

But the web site has change since you made this video, so the lay out is a bit different now.

  • Indeed, it has changed.

...and I haven't gone to the site since.

  • THANK U O FRICKEN MUCH

GOLLY IVE NEVER FOUND ASITE THAT WORKED SO WELL!!!!! Thankers

  • Thank you so much for making this video to show people the greatest free japanese learning program EVER! What's sad is this is actually like better then Rosetta Stone.. =X I think so considering it keeps track of your progress, shows skill level. It's way addicting as well, LOVE IT!

  • IKnow is great to learn vocab! Also it helped drill my Hiragana and Katakana (both of which I already knew, but it was great to drill what I knew. Also using the Brainspeed to help me starting reading Kana faster helps alot!)

  • The site is safe, right? I'm guessing yes but my security thingy says it's not tested.

  • It's safe, I already used it, there's no security threat

  • What happened to iKnow? It's turned into "smartfm" and i can't work it out one bit. I'm trying to learn japanese and this site sounded great. Any help?

  • Same site, diff name

  • I've managed to work it out now. Before it showed me the "japanese core" series automatically but with the new site i had to find it myself.

  • Arigato gozaimasu~ =o

I find this video you made so informative, can't wait to use iKnow. :)

  • I wonder what your opinion is, of their "upgrade".

(more like downgrade, if you ask me)

A LOT of the responses to it, on their site (both their blog, and forum), seem to have magically disappeared (do I smell censorship?)

  • thank you very much!!! That site is AWESOME!!!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • what does this " minesan konnichiwa " means?

i know, that konnichiwa means good day.

    but minesan?

  • It's "minnasan" ("san" being the honorific ending) and it means "everyone". =]

  • it's actually either "minna" of "minasan" but not "minnasan"

  • Oh really? So the "n" is dropped? I didn't know that...although I did think it looked a little strange. :P I'm surprised I've never noticed it before. (Unless I subconsciously DID notice and that's why it looked strange with two n's. lol) Thank you so much for telling me.

  • any time. =)

yeah I actually didn't even know til about 2 weeks ago =D

  • Hah, took me 2 years until i noticed it :P

  • you are a god among men

I'm not into flash cards >_> Though it is a good site.

  • I love iknow ^O^

use it to repeat kanji from past semesters.

but its still important for me to WRITE kanji...

I mean, I'm able to read kanji but the other way around its hard (to write them from memory). know what I mean? XD but nevertheless iknow is awesome for vocabs ^_^

btw Koichi, you always cheer me up when I sometimes hate myself for studying japanese XD and your videos in japanese make me realize how much I've learned so far. happy to understand everything :)

  • Thank You!!

This site is what I've been looking for!

I've hit a wall in studying Japanese. I hope this can help me get past it. ^^

  • Thanks for the advice, there are really good websites,

    I have a question, what

Japanese processor do you use to type, I used NJSTAR is there a better one that this one, cause this one is kind of old.

  • Omg such an awesome site. Thanks for showing this. I'm definitely using this.

  • I sorta need to know, should someone learn the characters of the Japanese language then the verbal use of the language or in reverse?

  • can this site tech you to read and speak japanese or just vocab?

  • you are japanese language jesus.

  • Where's the panda hat o.o WHERE?!?!!

  • this shuch a good site but i am finding it really hard to remeber all the letters is there a easey way

  • Nice... this site is a godsend, along with the myriad of resources on your previous videos. :)

  • Dude, wow...I'm 14, and I'm starting Japanese, and you were 15 when you started. I'm coming along pretty quickly, and this is going to help out later on.

Wow, i thought i was starting too late. I guess I picked the right time to start if I want to be fluent anytime in my young adult life. :D

    lol

Thanks again, tons, man. I even look like you when i dont' cut my hair :/ same glasses and everything. Creepy.

  • lol, i started when I was 20, never too late!

  • is this aimed at all ages (12)

  • how long did it take you to get japanese down and how long do you think the average person would take to become possibly fluent or almost fluent?

  • This site looks great! Thank you for showing it to us!

  • i just want to tell you thank you for this web sit cause know i can read and watch tv and enjoy what is on and not wishing to go home back to jamaica LOL.

  • the site isnt that great, when you click on

items theres alot there All in English, wich

is NOT Helpfull when you already Know English.

  • Not great huh... well, you must be using a different iKnow than I am because the iKnow I'm using has me firstly, recognizing the Japanese word in English, secondly, recognizing the English word in Hiragana (or Kanji if you're taking the Kanji courses), and lastly, typing in the word in Hiragana (or Kanji). So uhhh... how is that not great?

  • Yeah ok thats Good, BUT theres alot of English words on the items section & even when you click on Japanese to English,

of course im using the SAME Site! i discovered it 3 months ago, also the borrowed

words are written in Hiragana Not Katakana

  • Okay shuzaisuru, the same site thing is a little something called sarcasm. You discovered it 3 months ago... good for you... you get a cookie. Also you're trying to correct me on something that I didn't even mention and you get it wrong in the process... the borrowed words are written in Katakana and not Hiragana. My point for even replying is to let people know that iKnow is a very good site for Japanese vocabulary.

  • OK wil7lo sarcasm wow, Make it a Fotune cookie. Borrowed words are soppose to be written in KATAKANA! I know that!

BUT on the site they are Not.

  • Ahhh, okay, now I see why you don't like the site, you're having problems with it. I don't have that problem though, my borrowed words are in Katakana when I study them. Maybe it was that last patch they had, if that's the case it should be fixed by now, if not... just go to User Forum on iKnow and ask them if there is a solution for your problem. Hopefully that helped.

  • they are writen in katakana

  • hai hai I noticed that after i posted that comment, MY mistake

  • thank you!!

  • This website is great where has it been hiding:O. (Domo arigato gazaimasu) yeah thats one of the few things i know hopefully in a few months i will get a lot better.

  • This site has made me regret buying my White Rabit Express JLPT2 flash cards. I started using this just a week ago and it's amazing how easy it is to absorb the information. I'm study abroad in Sendai now, so I can take what I learn and try out it IRL. I guess I can still use my White Rabit Cards for bus study...

  • Okay, I went there, and when I go and try to spell TSUZUKU, (continue, follow), the son of a bitch types in the Katakana version...How do I type the Hiragana? I CAN'T MOVE ON WITHOUT IT!!!

  • for tzu, type du. I had the same problem at first too.

  • ありがと。

  • hhhh~ its "ありがとう "

  • Your videos and blog are super great, keep up the good work!

  • He's not kidding. iKnow really is the best site for learning japanese. Thanks Koichi, since you are the reason I found iKnow in the first place.

  • where can i get japanese typing software?

  • so tofugu? can this atcually help you learn a decent amount not as in phrases but talking in simple sentences?

  • Does the website go over differences Jouyou & Jinmeiyou Kanji? Sumimasen.
