the makeup is probably striking because it was hard to see when performing indoors. They only had candles or lamps as a source of light so make up helps. Then again males only performed at the time as well

the single perfomance was like magic... she was creating some shape with only piece of cloth... just one problem.. why they had these ugly makeup.. they all look so scary to me.. serious face with dark eyes... sorry but bad makeup and mindblowing dace

The make up is a traditional Chinese Opera style. This shows a group of young ladies who are learn long sleeve dance. This is part of the Chinese opera technique.
