The "canopy" of trees like this are being used by the Mexican cartels to hide narcotics production. Every tree like this is another joint on the streets of American city's. The DEA has designated many of these areas as infested beyond any means of removal. Any hope of removing the marijuana will involve the harvesting of these trees. They have no practical value other than aiding the drug cartels.

The General Sherman Tree was first named the Karl Marx tree by the Kaweah colony, a group of utopian socialists that were doing logging back in the 1880's in the area. When this was no longer allowed, the colony ended. If the tree could be renamed once, why can't it be renamed again? Sherman was one of the worst people in US history. As the world's biggest tree, it belongs to all the world and should be a symbol of peace and not named after a ruthless bigot. What name would you recommend?

I've seen winter photos of that area, and am not sure now if I want to go in the winter or spring time.
