She could do track hurdles! I noticed that when the jump is really high, she like twists her front legs to adjust with not hitting them but also not having her legs to high. My mom says that thats how I need to jump. But I jump more like a horse then a human. Shes an awesomely cute and amazing horse! :)
Aw, love Miss Clue! She is just an all-around amazing horse! It's funny, but the thing Lady and I have the least trouble with is rollbacks. As long as I am looking where we are going, she turns awesome and stays collected. Her problem is CHARGING at things set in straight lines. I love that horses are all individuals - keeps it interesting!
@RideAnIrishHorse Clue is really good at them, but she is always looking for the shortest distance between point A and B--so if I want to bulge the turn out an give myself more space, it can get difficult because she'll already want to cut the turn while I'm still trying to keep her straight. It is very advantageous in jump-offs--I so much as look for that next fence, and she will be ready to cut that turn--but God forbid I'd actually like to, you know, ride back out to the rail before turning.
@RideAnIrishHorse She is getting more adjustable. It's not really a bad problem to have. I would just like to have more input. :) Haha, I totally get you on the straightaway part of it. There's a reason we tend to do well in speed classes... ;)
You can still ride him can't you? If his turnout looks like Clue's and it's just walking or trotting, he should be fine. My navicular horse is on 20 acres and he is always running around, and I know if he can handle that, he can handle carrying a rider around at a walk. Good luck, keep us updated! I am going the natural hoof care route now with no shoes since Cash can't keep egg-bar shoes on.
@Maishley I'm waiting until the vet assesses him before I ride him. Duncan has always been barefoot--not sure what the future holds in regards to that, but I trust my farrier that helped Clue to be able to do the same for him. What is the extent of the work that your horse can do? Sorry if you've already told me before--I got a lot of responses from people and I'm having trouble keeping everyone's stories straight. :)
@dragonfly1030 When I took him to Pioneer last year the vet said, even with the navicular, keep him in corrective shoes, and work him up and down hills for his stifle issues. I recently discovered there are corrective shoes out there that don't hang out the back to ease breakover like egg-bars do. But even though the vet strongly recommended keeping him in shoes - the shoes are worthless if they won't stay on because of his over reaching, so why keep spending the money? He is not moving -
@dragonfly1030 much worse now barefoot versus having shoes on. His new Oregon vet also suggested keeping him in shoes but he's lame with shoes, and he's lame without, and they don't stay on. Sooo I found a great natural hoof care/barefoot expert and am going to try that and see if it improves or worsens things. Going to have him examined and x-rayed again early next year. Anyway! I ride him around the property here on soft dirt or grass, no rocks.
@dragonfly1030 But since he just went barefoot this month I am probably not going to ride him until next year so he can adjust physically to the new angles. If he does well barefoot I will be fitting him for some trail boots and start riding him again regularly. Hopefully and finally we will get him on to a more comfortable path shoe free.
wow I bet you are so glad that your took it slow bring clue back - hes looking fab... certainly have stepped up the height - but he looks like hes loving it...
Sad about Duncan - hope he turns out okay - hes such an eyecatching dude and I love his vids :)
Your horse is absolutely amazing - as are you. I agree with Horselover - Clue is like "For real?" She's a fabulous Mare (QH's can do anything, and I love them all to death!)
@stokes885 The saddle pad is Equine Couture brand, I think the pattern is called "Firenze." It's a couple years old, not sure if they still offer it. It's actually black and silver, but it's a bit hard to see in the video.
i swear clue is charisma's long lost sister:) i did my first bounces and mini grid on Tuesday and she was like ''really?, these jumps are not worthy of my awesomeness'' :P great riding on your part. now i have to go ride my monster:)
how is Duncan doing????? i have been worried about him:(
@Horselover0708 Haha, Clue is a bit better about bounces--probably the next video I put up will include some of our gridwork. :) I posted a little thingy in my vid description about him that basically sums it up--saving up money for a visit from the local vet to get his 2 cents, then deciding on a treatment plan. He's a happy clam, though, and I am doing *very* light work with him (hand walking and such) to keep him from getting chunky.
@SionAndOllie An embarrassingly ancient Collegiate saddle that I bought on eBay in maybe 2003 or 2004. I've tried getting a new saddle and it never works out--I keep returning to this one. The saddle has no blocks of any sort--it is just one continuous flap of leather, and that's it. I affectionately call it "the pancake." I ride with a ThinLine half pad underneath it.
@dragonfly1030 WOOHOO Collegiate! I just bought a 'used' (it was barely broken in!) 2009 Collegiate Diploma off eBay too, which me and ponybutt adore. :) I've been a total advocate of the Collegiate brand since. LOL.
Have you tried any more of the Collegiates? If not, you could check to see if there's any old Equites around...used to ride in one, was super close contact and SUPER comfy!
@SionAndOllie I eventually will need something--the one I have, I take good care of, but it was pretty beat up when I bought it. I essentially just need a brand new pancake--I don't have any preference as to the brand, as long as it'll fit the horse. :)
@dragonfly1030 Fair enough! We got really lucky with ours...knowing that a Collegiate fit him well already, and going off of at least 6 months of research, we ended up buying one on eBay before we tried any others...by some divine miracle it fit both of us like a glove! The universe was smiling on us that day. :)
