First i hated all those dj's playing with laptops. Cause virtual dj and other likely programs have auto beatmatch. But djing is more than just beatmatching. I still use vinyls and cdj 1000's because that's my style, but I still respect dj's aspecially when they are producers as well. When I see paul kalkbrenner playing live on his laptop, it's kinda magic! But he makes his music with this and I respect it. He could never spin such a nice set with his vinyls as he can live edit it with his lapto

It's not a laptop that makes a dj, or the decks or whatever. I've seen many djs fail with cds as I seen many djs fail with laptops.

oh and what about Daft Punk? They have no skill? Laurent Garnier? Paul Kalkbrenner? There are some laptop dj´s with impressive live skills, who  use programs like Ableton as a tool to make live productions, which is pretty awesome. I agree, there are a lot of Serato / traktor /ableton dj´s too who make it easy for themselves, but that also happens with cd-dj´s (Guetta)

@SpiritJKI as in its harder to do the effects and get the tracks all without them being automated by a software and having to task of doing everything on 2 cdjs and a mixer rather than having midi controllers that you can map to anything you wish and can customize to will

Using techl advances to improve your mixing is not a crime, it doesn't make you a worse DJ either. I started mixing with CDJ200s and Numark DXM06 Mixer and regarding effects, the main difference is that the mixer requires you to manually Tap tempo for it, while CDJs already launch the effect synced

If you want, you can use the advantage of not having to beatmatch to do more stuff, or you can just sync and mix, not my style rly; but that doesnt allow for bullshitting either

@SpiritJKI lol im not ripping technological advances in the live mixing scene...i use ableton live and prefer midi controllers over turntables or cdjs...it allows for way more control over your live set so you can get more creative and make your set more interesting....

yes, laptop mixing can turn a live show into a live production of music, which is pretty cool. Though i think he has a point, you got to see what they are doing on stage. But mixing with cd´s is not idiot proof too, i saw guetta once on a festival and he just played a cd with the whole set on it :s
