LOL i live here :P it's kinda weird seeing it on display like this, it's a really nice city with a lot of attractions :) but just like any where you go it's about being in the right place at the right time, that way you can avoid any dangers, i spend alot of time in the Bullring which is a really, really big shopping mall :D ...so come to Birmingham an we can hang out together <3
I was in Birmingham, Erdington UK in Dec. 2009 & it was so cold & damp - thought I would freeze to death. I was visiting from Utah & we do have snow here, but it was COLD..I didn't like the area of Erdington it seemed very dismal & all the houses so close together...not much to do but the pubs, those I did enjoy...the food was very bland & not much flavor - sorry, but this was my experience...
Located in a huge bomb crater somewhere in the lost lands of the Midlands, Birmingham is where the people of England go to die. Inhabitants are required to serve at least five-nights a week in the underground Utterly Butterly mines (pronounced "Utter-lie-butter-lie-moynes" in their yokel tongue).

Thanks, I know what you mean, I used to live in LA & drove through Compton & was scared to death! I got lost but found my way back on the freeway, YIKES!
Hi Paki, thanks for the warning, even the reservation Agent gave me a pause when he said, "it is OK'! I saw "Look back in Anger" with Richard Burton & saw how they treated the poor Paki's - hope you get some better breaks & living standards.
Birmingham is a good city, but it wouldn't make my top 10 British cities. If you're coming over from the states and only have the chance to see 2-3, or maybe just 1 city outside of London, I recommend Bristol, Bath, Manchester, Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, and York.
Thank you very much, I have a friend in Birmingham & people have told me it is industrial & some rough areas, so I appreciate your comments. I want to see London very much, wish I could live there someday, but the weather is rainy, but here I have the cold & snow, SLC, Utah!
I'm impressed that you are at the Birmingham University & what are you studying? I've heard the same about Liverpool, but because of the Beatles, always wanted to see it & now with the idea of it & Brum being the equivolent of Detroit, !!!!!! Thanks for the historical information as well, Carol
I know people in Brum & they don't agree with you - I've looked at the videos & it seems like a beautiful place, not a "shit-hole - everyone has their own opinion.
Birmingham is a cool city, the nightlife is good, but it's probably the least historic of the major British cities. It was less developed than the likes of Manchester even before it was bombed during WW2. It's probably the English city most like an American city; you won't see many buildings older than 125 years. However, if you're staying with friends in Brum, Stratford-upon-Avon is a short train away, and Oxford isn't far either. London, however, is probably the best city in the world!!
Thanks again for all the details. I will love taking the train to Stratford-upon-Avon hope to see the pubs & night life as well. I love the Ballet & Theater, so maybe check those out as well. Wonder why so many people don't like this area very much, guess it has a bad rap...where do you live now & are you still in the UK? Carol
I'm at Birmingham University now. One of the most beautiful campus around England.. again, strangely the most Ivy-League style of all the English universities, built in 1900. I believe Birmingham is about 10-15 years development away from being a truly great city, but at the moment it's still getting over the image it had in the 60s/70s, before all the new buildings and parks were built, when it was a bit of a concrete jungle. Liverpool and Brum are probably the UK equivolent of Detroit!
What a SHIT-HOLE. Please note how the first thing the voice highlighted was that it has good rail and air links.....Thank god for that, It makes it easier to LEAVE!!!
