  • Phil Keaggy, a Christian and the man that Jimi Hendrix called the best guitarist in the world.

  • I love Keaggy... I've seen some cool video's by "Brandon Ray Collins" where he uses the looping technology.

  • zzz...

  • What an artist. Undeniably one of the most talented guitarists of our age...

  • Truly awesome guitarist. Too bad he's got to drape himself in this religious, superstitious nonsense.

  • @OnWhiteLake Sorry, but it's a God-given talent that he's not afraid to share.

  • The man gave up fame and fortune for family and his love of his God but there's no need for any denomination to claim it, he'd be brilliant regardless.

  • The multi capos, the loopers, the effects, and most of all the chops!

This man is, and has for decades been DEVOTED AND DEDICATED TO SERVING GOD WITH HIS MUSIC - no laziness here.... he allows his God given talents to shine.

and THAT is why Phil Keaggy is the BEST!

  • Phil is one of the most humble of Gods children walking this earth

  • Speechless

  • Phil makes no mistake to whom he gives the glory..........Jesus Christ.

  • Just got chills.

  • I got chills watchin this.

  • awesome!

  • So filled with the spirit, Keaggy rocks!!

  • Injustice.

No video with Phil Keaggy should have less than a million views...

  • Very Nice =)

  • The man's genius shows! Always one of my favorite musicians.

  • Phil Keaggy Rocks!!

  • Phil Keaggy Rocks!!

  • sweet looping!

  • I think we have a musician on our hands here...

  • truely the best guitar player in the world--who can match him!?

  • @rrsl123mm tommy emmanuel

  • unmatched! ...wow,it's been 10 years since Ive seen him!(met him at church)

  • He played this in Dallas when I went to go see him this year for my 16th birthday!!!!! Best birthday ever!!!!!!

  • Gott ist gut.

  • Clarence: "Every time you hear a bell ring, it means that some angel's just

got his wings." Thanks, Phil from all the angels......

  • Phil is a masterful song writer...

  • Saw him at Westside Church in Omaha, Nebraska in 2009. Truly a gift from God!

  • When i met him he said he'd be able to play a lot more stuff he'd like to if he had 10 fingers haha.

  • Hes damn good

  • who needs drums when you have a guitar.

    great song

  • he's more musical with the fx than most people are period.

  • Say him in concert at Elim. pretty awesome

  • Phil Keaggy actually gave McCartney his Olsen guitar. Keaggy found out that they had a lefty made and the guy who ordered it couldn't pay for it. Phil told the story last night at a concert...

  • I'll still stick with my 314CE Taylor...lol

  • who cares what you own.Braging I see.Phil can out gun anybody! period.AND he doesnt brag!

  • Who cars what u think I have been a fan of Phil for years and don't need a perv to tell me what I can say or not say....so go back to your loser life....

  • Phil is undeniably one of the best guitarist, and his talent only seems to build as the years go by. I first met him at a Christian coffee house by the name of Adam's Apple in the mid 70's. He would sit around with a bunch of us hippy Christians and jam. Oh those were the days!

  • If you are talking about FW, it brings back memories everytime I drive down Clinton Street.

  • I saw him live two days ago. He's amazing and some of his songs brought tears to my eyes. And I'm not one to cry.

  • p.s. I could probably ring that little bell. :-)

  • I could have all of his equipment and still not be able to make the beautiful music this guy does.

  • hes using two capos

  • James Taylor is also using one of those....beautiful sound.

  • Check out a guy named Mark Eagan or Egan

  • I didn't know Phil used Stonebridge Guitars.

  • Anyone know where I can find this video? Is it on a particular DVD? Great stuff btw, thanks for sharing!

  • It's on the Together Live DVD.

  • I hope you all know that he INVENTED that looping pedal!!!!

  • Actually, it was guitarist Les Paul that invented sound-on-sound recording, both multi-track and loop-based. This occurred in 1947 and the early '50s respectively. Today's loopers owe everything to the "Les Paulverizer" of almost 6 decades ago.

  • Well I know for a fact the one he's using he invented lol

  • yeah, i saw him live tonight...he's amazing.

he actually uses a lead pick a lot, it's just really small. I was in 3rd row so I saw when he would put it down on top of his guitar...he alternates A LOT. he's so good.

  • He is missing half of the middle finger on his right hand due to a childhood accident at age 4 involving a water pump.

  • hes dad cutt off his middle finger for flicking off the king. haha. jk hes crazy love him!

  • YEAH that interview is in the annals of the Y103 cleveland station library somewhere...

  • Just saw him this weekend, in our hometown! he is still so phenomenal... the other two guys from GLASS HARP were there too!

  • You're everywhere.

  • o... middle finger...

  • and to think hes missing his ring finger on his right hand... insane... best guitarist ever!

  • This was recorded at North Idaho College in Coeur D' Alene, Idaho like maybe 4 years ago. I was there and it was an amazing night! A little bit of heaven for a guitarist. :)

  • I always knew Phil was great, but I see here is doing stuff from all over the place, from Leo Kottke to Alan Holdsworth - amazing.

  • I saw this guy in concert and he kept me mesmerized for over 2 hours. He is a truly amazing talent; and when he plays his demeanor is so positive. I would go to another concert of his any time!

  • I have read some of these comments and all I want to type in is thank you for posting this.

  • Do u have the vid for that? hes not the best, but hes very good. there are many people who could beat him and good for them, but he still is very good none the less

  • what on earth are you talking about "beat him"

you are a stupid git and a fool, music has never been or never will be about who can beat who. I have seen phil 4 times and he was the reason I picked up my first guitar. He is an extraordinary talent and a unique player weather he or any other player is the best is totally irellevant. people like you are fuckin retarded

  • Im sorry your so offended. Theres no need for namecalling. Let me clarify: when I said beat him, I was using someone else's term, responding to what they said. Second, I meant "someone who is more talented." I too play guitar and have seen him live, he is the person who inspired me the most.

  • I saw him play this live!! He came to my church.

  • He lives in my neighborhood. Ive meet him a couple of times hanging out with a friend of my that drums with him

  • really, that guy is fortunate

  • ok, pull her sheet music off the stand. plug her into the looping jam man and let's see what she can do.

  • More than almost anybody I've ever known, Phil Keaggy just absolutely loves what he does... and it shows.

  • Dude, interesting

  • holy fuck.

  • PHILthy, thats all I got to say!!

    Jay Chick

  • To enter the talent debate: part of what sets Phil Keaggy apart from the rest is his pioneering. the Li Jie video displays technical talent, for sure, world class, but not a mastery of the guitar, which requires the ability to improvise, create, and discover uncovered territory. Phil paved the way for most of the greats which is evidenced if you compare what he was doing stylistically back in the 60s with what they started to do later on. just my 2 cents

  • Saying any one is the greatest is a stretch. Opinions vary, styles vary. Steve Hackett amazes me with his playing, and I'll think he's the greatest. Then Phil does his thing and I'll lean his way, there are others that we all know...Steve Howe, Steve Vai, Larry Carlton etc. This is the first I've heard of 12 year old girls being better than guys who've played more than 3 times their life span. Not saying it couldn't be done, but I wanna see.

  • I can't understand how some one can't appreciate the musical ability of a guy just because he is "religious" There is nothing really "religious" about this song. It just show a master of his instrument doing what he was born to do, just like Tommy.

  • no i disagree, hes absolutely amazing. and this is only one song

id love to see u do better

and by the way, religion has nothin to do with it. take John Petrucci, one of the best guitarists alive, is a christian. or Geddy Lee, a great bassist, is a Jew. Mark Tremonti, who may not be the best, but is still up there, cites God in his thanks page, in Alter Bridge. Three great examples. Religion has nothing to do with it.

  • dancing a jig!

  • Thanks for recommending this one to me! I hope you have time to see the vintage 2nd Chapter of Acts/Matthew Ward videos from your Mamma's youth.

    Love,

    Mom

  • Keaggy is the BEST Guitarist ever!

  • I think keaggy could play it...

  • same here

  • yeah he can play it. he used one of parts for one of his songs

  • I'm flabbergasted!!! This is one heck of a talented guitar player... I still prefer Satriani, but I will never forget this one

  • Phil Keaggy is an alien visitor from other ethnic musicalities. It reminds me of Page and Plant on the duo reunion album,in the streets of Morroco, with one amp, and all the locals gaping at the tall white Western foreigners mixing their native scales with British Viking blood.

  • He kind of Satriani's it out in the middle. That's what anyone with taste should do with music from the isles.

  • Put up or shut up. Lets see proof of these 12 year olds

  • Agreed. Why do we not see a hundred videos of 12 year old kids jamming? Funny, everyone is an expert.

  • technique is meaningless. itz alllll about sound. technique came from a bunch people making stuff up in the first place. creativity is what matters most. and phil keagy used to play in a fashion no 12 year old girl or 25 year old hendrix sounded better than. there seems to be no vids of his early electric work but he could really burn it up. screw technique. what ya got????

  • are u kidding me??? technique is needed much. if u think u can get on a stage and play guitar with no technique, then u obviously have no idea what ur talkin about. u cant get sound with out technique. Well u can but it would be horrible.

by the way, jimi hendrix himself admitted that Phil, who was opening his shows, was better than him.

to quote you, "what ya got????"

  • ROFL you know 12 year old girls who can outplay phil? rofl bullllllllSHIIIIITTTT

  • Phil Keaggy is a sound crafting musical magic act in this one.

  • GOOD

  • Oh yea! You're in for QUITE a treat....check out ALL his music! Once asked of Jimmy Hendrix, "How does if feel to be the finest guitarist in the world?" His responce..."You'll have to ask Phil Keaggy!" Now you know! ENJOY

  • ive heard the same thing except it was eddie van halen instead of jimi

  • I heard it was Eric Clapton.......what the fuck.

  • i heard it was hendrix who was asked. i believe way back jimi wanted to learn to read music, and he decided to take lessons from phil.

  • Actually, according to Phil himself, it was Hendrix, but when asked who the best was, Jimi's reply was, "The two best guitarists are both from Ohio - Joe Walsh and Phil Keaggy."

  • Actually, lovemyp44, it was Phil himself who said: "I do not think there is anything to it", and added that Jimi had died before Phil hooked up with Glass Harp. He said since he and Jimi had never met he doubted Jimi had ever even heard him play. People need to learn to Snope the truth and quit the online debating and Urban Legend spreading. Phil Keaggy does not deserve this rumor-mill going on with his fine name attached to it.

  • Joe Walsh is from Kansas

  • This guy can play !!!!!!!

  • this guys incredible

  • Yea i too wish i could get the tab

  • I wish i could find a tab for this, anybody know where?

  • JOY!

  • What a guy! I thought Jaco Pastorius was the master doing loops while playing, but this guy is a good match for him.

  • The man is only 56 years young. But I've never seen a more resilient musician.I mean wow! I researched this guy and He has over 40-50 albums,or cd's.I've been watching Him on you tube from his early music till now.He is a solid rock for representing the christian community.Like a Billy Graham. He's got my respect.

  • he is my cousin

its great to have his blood runnin in my family

  • no one is impressed with you because you criticize phil keaggy's musicianship.

  • This particular performance is really a mess, actually. Phil can't get the repeating tracks the way he wants them. Note how he starts re-recording after getting an unwanted sound on them. He then proceeds to hit the bell at the wrong beat and tries to cover for that by hitting it again a little bit later.

There's a really good live video performance of this song recorded on a Canadian Christian TV show called something like "Huntley Street". Try to find it.

  • so what? he may have done better but he's a brilliant guitarist and this is a great performance - he's probably comfortable with making mistakes

  • Ya know, you don't live out on the edge without making a few mistakes. I have a recording of him blowing a part of another song.. he stops a second, makes a joke, and goes on.. and ya know what, he repeated that part 2 more times with zero mistakes. Phil's shows typically don't have a pre-planned set list, he gets up and plays what he feels.. and that goes far in showing how talented he is.

  • Yeah the last track on the CD "On the Fly" is a 24 minute improv that had drums and bass added after the fact. How many guitarists out there can just improv for a half hour and then put it on the album just like it is?

  • Yeah... it's a mess. Why don't you get up there and show him how to do it right. If more people were like Phil and had learned to admit their mistakes, have a little laugh in spite of themselves, and then move on to greatness; well, the world would be a better place.

  • He actually didn't screw anything up. If you knew anything about music, you would know that he hit the bell on that beat on purpose. It's just that listeners today have been brainwashed to think that music can only sound good in 4/4 time with no deviations from the normal beat. Keaggy knows how to deviate, and does it perfectly.

  • He's the best among the Christian musicians by a long shot, anyway, imo. I just wish he'd get out there in the mainstream again and show the younger generation how it's done, but guess that's a place he doesn't want to delve into, I guess.

  • Whoops sorry stratkid, thot you were my age. No offense. (face turning red here lol) We need another revolutionary sound to hit the scene, tho, imo.

  • i agree, there are only a few young "mainstream virtuosos" out there: Cesar Huesca, Justin King, kieran murphy, etc. but then again it is getting more and more difficult to get into the biz as a young instrumentalist.

  • Who would've thought in the 70's that you could get

any better and more inventive Phil!! True genius

    just keeps growing!

  • OH yeahh Phil! You're one of the greats!

    Thanks for this video!

  • thanks keaggy

  • I appreciate the clip. You have to be there in person to really feel what it is like for him to throw 5 or 6 tracks down on top of one another on the fly. It's truly amazing.

  • I think he's got a lot on his mind. Get the oxycontins.
