Along with contemporaries Harry Nilsson, Arlo Guthrie and Mason Williams, Rose was/is a whimsical stoner with a deft touch at a lyric and a supple piano technique. I was a stagehand at a gig of his once---*the* stagehand, actually: it was a small venue---and he turned out to be just as witty off-stage as on. He's one of the reasons why radio in the late Sixties/early Seventies radio was so interesting and varied.
