couldn't happen to a better person. Khan he brother and others were complete C**ts there is a karma Hope to see you soon Mr Khan Eugene O' Regan Presenation College pupil and Boarder!
Ah, I remember those yellow Groove Records bags! I used to buy 12" import Hip Hop singles there back in the mid eighties. I also bought Street Scene mag. and all the Streetsounds Electro albums up until No. 13. Great times as a teenager with a Sony Cassette Walkman (inc. graphic equalizer, with the bass turned up!). Morgan Khan was before his time... Never went to UK Fresh '86 but I recall listening to it later that day on Mike Allen's Capital Radio show.
Most amaaazing show on BBC radio 6 with dave pearce and morgan khan over the weekend... you can listen to it this week on bbc iplayer - absolute classic show about an absolute classic label. heres the link:
Hip Hop would still have got through no matter what stop being a bunch of nostalgic
folks, Morgan was just a Asian with a plan of making money out of Black Peoples Music Period anyone else thats involved with black music is the same PERIOD. Say what you want to him its just business. All that music was still out there we used to go new york all the time so BEHAVE PEOPLE
@sotuf WTF no one is sayin that he was the sole reason Hip hop came into the UK but he sure did speed up the process by making it more affordable to buy imported tunes!!!! Morgan Khan is a legend at what he did and the STREETSOUNDS label is back up and running again with 2 nu electro albums out. I not saying he wasnt out to make money but it was a business and any one in business need to make money.. so lets not do him down he is an icon in the UK hip hop scene
i used to buy my records from groove records and i lived in cardiff, used to go up to london to go to concerts, cop clothes, and buy the latest tunes in groove............dedicated motherfucker,no fucking internet then!
i own 20 street sounds soul records he is a god in my eyes a man who saw the future and brought it to the masses, mtume bt express toney lee jean carnes the list is endless but they would have just been club sounds if he had not put them on vinyl
i am the proud owner of the whole electro/hip hop series (28 lp´s) they are the best various hip hop albums ever made and had songs on them you could not hear anywere else i grew up with the electro series and noadays i am a serious collecter of old school hip hop/electro and these records brought me a lot of knowledge of the songs/artists/labels and i currently have 95 procent of all songs featured on them in my position big up Morgan Khan your label has changed my life
Didn't Morgan Khan also have a hand in the early success of Jay Kay, who went on to form Jamiroqui? I'm pretty sure I remember Jay saying he gave his first ever demo tape to Morgan.
Morgan Khan was a pioneer of UK dance music. Thanks for sharing this. Street sounds label was fantastic, and electros were mixed by mastermind, which if you checkout the movie Electro Rock hes on the wheels cutting up Magic Disco Machines, "scratching" break.
In 1983, Herbie was mixing the seminal Street Sounds Electro 1 (Street Sounds, 1983), for label owner Morgan Khan. It was one of the first releases to bring this new style of music to British ears, and spawned a successful series - ten volumes were released by the time of the final volume Street Sounds 10 (Street Sounds, 1985) - and several similarly styled associated collections (Street Sounds Hip Hop Electro, Street Sounds Hip Hop, Street Sounds Crucial Electro).
Amazing, it took someone like this to bring the vibe to the uk!!!
