  • I first saw this in my ap class. Conclusions: they're getting high, the old dudes got...facial issues, and they need girlfriends. Lonely males...

  • I find this difficult to masturbate to.

  • I think these folks are all possessed.

  • And that's where babies come from!

  • @fordmodel15

HAHAH!! and that is exactly why I looked this up! XD

  • you hear: zie die auti!!! that means see that autism

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • it's like something out of a robert E howard novel :) i half expected conan to come barreling though, broadsword in hand yelling something about stygian savages

  • and the meaning of this chant is what ?

  • @TheFukazoid Look up Kecak on wikipedia, very interesting. Apparently it was originally a trancework system that has only in the last century become a kind of art performance, based on the stories in the Ramayana of the monkey-beings called Vanaras.

  • "Dude, put on the Ramayna monkey chant! -Mean Girls

  • they love monkey

  • for real?????

  • amazing synchronization of all the chanters. the frenzied sounds could of easily gotten out of control but it's done with devotion.

  • Chant leader looks like Dustin Hoffman when he does that crooked grin at 2:10.

  • This is my most favourite part in Baraka :)

  • Avatar get inspired from this, I guess...

  • This feels awkward to watch but I'm sure it's related to something spiritual, which then, makes it cooler.

  • Reminds me of Avatar. LOL

  • crazy but fantastic .... love it!

  • @winchesterschwester maybe good for aerobic or vocal practice

  • cool

  • Nonesuch records published this in the early 60's. Heavy airplay on 'Pacifica' radio

  • oO... i try and keep my mind open to all faiths... but this is pretty trippy

  • barakaa

  • Also, well picked, I've watched a few of these bali monkey chants and looked at the comments to see if it was just me that was tripping out

  • This was the one that inspired Mr. Bungle's "Goodbye Sober Day", right?

  • @almightyjoey Well, it inspired that one part of it, yeah =)

It's funny - it takes several hundred people to make the same sound that Mike Patton can create by himself XD

  • @ska2808 LOL @ Mike Patton. Is that clown still alive?

  • @rayjr62 Yep, and he's better than you!

  • @ska2808 Better than me at what. . Making shitting music? Yep. I agree. He is much better than I will ever be at that.

  • @rayjr62 "shitting music"? Brilliant.

  • @ska2808 Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Dunn wrote most of Bungle's stuff. No doubt only Patton could pull it off to sound the way it did, but He wasn't really as worldly as some of the other members of Mr. Bungle. Secret Chiefs 3 is the same band without Patton. They're definitely worth a listen. Still love Mike for his killer vocals. Seems like everything he gets in on is amazing.

  • @sovelliss66 Mike wrote most of California, actually, but yeah it was mostly Dunn and Spruance on earlier records (as far as music-writing goes, anyway).

  • Goodbye sober day

  • I'm doing this dance for school. The rhythm is hard to keep up with! And we're only doing rhythms 1, 2, and 3... that's hard enough for people who have never done this before.

  • i looked this up cause i heard the guy who plays ethan sat "put on the ramyan monkey chant" the guy doesnt know what hes talkin bout

  • Looks like something that would be in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

  • why issit called ramayana monkey chant?

  • wow, this is amazing, I've never seen anything like it.

  • The hands movement represent Fire

  • I've been to two of the locations in the video. They are truely paradises...

Get out & see the world ~ Baraka is only a beautiful tease.

  • I saw Baraka, the documentary this is taken from, about 3 days ago in amazing HD, and this feels like it's been cut down a lot.

Looking back, this is probably the most intense part of the documentary, but the rest of it make it all worth a watch if you haven't seen it already.

Well worth the watch, even better in HD, if you can get it.

  • Baraka gran Documental

  • Wow, what an intense experience! I just love Kecek. This is an outstanding example -- I just wish I had been there!

    Thank You!

  • this is amazing

  • Baraka Obama...sorry, guys I just couldn't resist the pun. This movie gives us a glimpse of customs and cultures many of us never knew existed. The assortment of gorgeous landscapes and the simple score makes for breathtaking entertainment.

  • Amazing scene at 2:30

  • After viewing this clip I rented "Baraka-a World Beyond Words" by Ron Ficke. I did not see this scene. The whole soundtrack was backround and World Music influenced, but there were no traditional music performances like this. I also have seen several other "Baraka" clips on YouTube that show people performing traditional music. Is this from special features on the DVD (I had VHS)? or is there another "Baraka". Any help would be appriciated. I'd love to see more of this.

  • Strange as it is one of the first three scenes on my DVD. The music track is by two members of Dead Can Dance, who could be considered the first 'popularised' world music band. I believe there is one other scene with ambient music, the modern Kabuki dancers that are emulating the horror of the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan.

  • This is so fun and amazing. I had a different original reel to reel (16 track) recording of this from the early 1950's. It's basically the same thing but more frenzied (more people?) The Balinese story behind this is a fable or folktale of the Prince Rama (Ramayana)and his battle against the Evil King Ravana. The chanting represents the battle and the monkeys that helped him, and is done by no less than 100 men. (Sorry Ladies?!) I think there is more but that's the idea....

  • I could listen to this over and over again. This is certainly Baraka's best part... Makes me feel very nostalgic... I miss Indonesia:(

  • bahahahhaaaaah

this sooo feels like a pep rally yo

  • Do you worship monkeys?

  • Haha,no,friend, this isn't worshipping monkeys, only a tribute to the action of Hanuman(the monkey king),out of his devotion to Lord Rama,to save Rama's daughter from the clutches of Ravana. It's an epic tale, full of metaphor, very powerful stuff, like any religious tale.

  • Thank you for the explanation.

  • ramas daughter?

    religioustale?its not a relegious tale

hinduism is not a religion, its sprituallity, which says ,''its not the human beings experincing sprituallity but the spritual beings experiencing humanity''.

  • Well said,friend. I happily stand corrected!

  • Excellently put. I think the Balinese Buddhist-Hinduism pantheon fits in religion as it satisfies the criteria of the belief in and worship of a superhuman(s) controlling power. But it certainly allows itself to be adopted philosophically as well.

  • wasnt it to rescue Sita, his wife, from Ravana?

  • LOL so funny but very cool at the same time

  • I think we all should do this again :)

But i'm afraid black groups will call this racist and somehow we will all get sued.

  • What the HELL are you talking about?

  • hahahhahaaha.. good question

  • after watching "racism in football"

and the american so called leaders such as Al Sharpton , you'd understand

  • @batguano Hes being a racist prick.

  • I dont know what the heck you are talking about. This is part of Balinese culture, I don't see how this would anger blacks. You make absolutely no sense, you probably commented the wrong vid.

  • LOL

  • i love it!

  • jak jak jak jak jak jak jak jak heheehe

  • Lets not forget duk duk duk duk duk duk duk duk.

  • Have you forgotten

duk jak duk jak duk ...

  • i love this stuff

  • awesome

  • AWESOME! Brings back memories... (CSSSA class of 2001)

  • Oh great video document!!!

  • This is fantastic and fascinating. I love it and Baraka. Thank you.

  • Ahh... Hanuman. He pulled his chest apart to show Rama his pure heart. What a beautiful gesture - what a beautiful idea.

  • Its not tribal. This is from the island of Bali in Indonesia. Its called Kecak (keh-chak) and is meant to be a vocal representation the traditional Gamelan gong and drum orchestras. The Kecak calls are meant to be how the armies of the monkey god Hanuman used to sound.

  • i think this is the best cultural tribal unions i have ever seen

  • That. Was. So. Awesome.

  • If you guys haven't seen "Baraka", I would highly recommend it. "1 Giant Leap" too. It's is from the same genre, but w/ spoken word and even more energetic music. Check them both out...

  • Amazing

  • saw this movie when it first came out. the sound these ramayanans produce is incredible. i think it's amazing. watch it twice, maybe then you'll appreciate it.

  • perfect example why some people of one faith are afraid of others from another.

  • Ditto

  • Do you have any idea what the Ramayana is, or who the monkey god Hanuman is? Why is this a "perfect example of why people of one faith fear those of another"? These people are chanting like monkeys to honor Hanuman, but in no way are they harming anyone. Get over yourself and watch some Iraqi insurgent videos on Ogrish.com, or read about the conquest of the "New" World, if you REALLY want to see why people fear and hate those of a different faith. Bigot idiot.

  • As a matter of fact, I *have* read the Bhagavad Gita. I think you misunderstood my comment. People tend to fear the unknown. People also tend to fear and mock the power of large groups chanting in unison. My comment has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with group psychology.

  • Nimble asked if you had read the RAMAYANA not the Bhagvad Gita or Mahabharat.

  • weird
