Because of this crash now i need an ATP certificate to become a first officer in an airline. Requiring more experience isn't going to stop Pilots from making mistakes, because i make mistakes, just makes it harder for people to fulfill their dreams of becoming an airline pilot. Pilot Experience didn't bring this plane down, it was fatigue.
Being in training phase your concern for more training is understandable. but you need to realize that this additional training is Number Needed to Prevent (NNP) the crash. It is easier to get more training than get back the lives lost & may be lost due to fatigue. I would prefer to fly w/ pilot w/ more training than lesser one. As more training means less odds of crash. At least one is expected to learn more on how to handle fatigue safely. Price for working in civil aviation.
women should not be able to fly planes because when you need to push on the break this requires lots of strength and men are physically stronger then women to pull back on the handle when things get sticky. Thats just my assessment
@ThomasAUSTRALIA1 - dear moron, women have far fewer fatal crashes per kilometre driven, and have recently been proven to be better at parking. Stick it.
@Trixtah ....Oh...um...and your wonky statistics come from a reliable source or from the local C Club? Look sweetie, do the world a favour and just stay in the kitchen where you belong. You guys are better at baking cakes and making babies than driving cars and flying planes!!!
The pilots did exactly what they should've done in a Tailplane stall but they mistook the subtle difference in a Main wing stall for the tailplane stall. Maybe they didn't notice that the stick was doing a stick shaker(used to determine Main wing stall) and not a stick pusher(used to determine Tailplane stall) which can be deadly as you see in the video.
i really don't understand why anyone is even bringing up the whole man/women thing and even arguing and getting nasty over it! so what that the first officer was female, it really shouldn't be a big deal! no one is making a fuss about the captain being a man!!!!!
This is where not paying enough your working force leads, and it proves that pilots are proletarians and should develop class consciousness. The study led by the human factors engineers is quite shocking: basically it's how to exploit people safely! They just should lower the working time!
I'm not saying female pilots aren't as skillful as male pilots, however when something goes wrong they don't show the same composure as their male counter-parts, I'm not saying all female pilots don't have composure, but the majority don't.
@ryan1111111555555555 - did you not watch the video? The CAPTAIN made the primary error of doing the exact opposite of what he should have done to recover. Sure, the first officer didn't help the situation, but she was following on with the action HE initiated. HE lost his composure first!
@Trixtah Yes... but you should know that a First Officer is supposed to overlook all the Captains actions, They are supposed to speak out if the Captain does something wrong, they aren't just supposed to do everything the Captain says, have you never heard of Crew Resourse Managment? (CRM) What did she do when things started to go wrong? gave a girlish scream and continued to scream until she died, she became another passenger, Im saying there needs to be more test's of composure.
this is kind of scary considering I want to become a pilot and I'm very likey to start my career the same way the co pilot did and the possibility of traveling long distances to ' go to work ' are likely. I hope positive changes are made to the industry by the time I become a pilot
say you made $60,000 a year but avg housing cost $780,000 and it was like that from 1997 to 2009

for you people that believe women are no good pilots stick your thumbs up your ass! I have flown with some really good female pilots and some really good men pilots. The captain is also responsible for this crash as well. Bottom line, no one on this plane wanted to die.
@kisha1682 I'm sick and tired of these "politically correct" speeching. You're probably a tinny-dick looking for a woman who likes your idiot comment. Please, take a 60" wood and stick up in your sorry ass, bastard.

SUCK ON THAT LOSER!

the reason this plane crashed was because the co pilot should have actually been in the kitchen, leaving that job to someone slightly more apt for the job
@tubbythesnipe Sorry, but that's just disrespectful. That is a very overused stereotype and you know it. Granted, she should, in an ideal world, have been more alert. They both should. Fact remains; they were tired -- the plane crashed. They simply should not have been flying, but your remark does not offer anything other than insult, which is that of someone who has nothing better to say. Thus, take your unwanted remarks elsewhere. Thanks.

@HammerOfTheSun If someone gave me $16k for a year and said now what do you want to do, pilot an airplane or deliver pizzas? I'd choose the airplane. They do it for the love of flying, it's not about the money.
the speed warning shouldnt have been the red bars only but a perfectly audible sound like a beep or something...come on even flight simulators do that and this is from a 15 year old boy,i partially blame the plane.......things happen fast during the landing procedures so the pilots eyes couldve been on the checklists, approach manuals atc.If it made a sound....it would be almost impossible not to hear
@SophyBieber11 Kinda the same way if you put a high quality small bank safe on a plane and crashed it into the ground at 200Mph it would still be closed and intact
I'm wondering, The pilot's reaction to PULL the nose and add power is the opposite reaction for a Stall, yes. But that's precisely the reaction for a Tailplane Stall... I don't think he was undertrained, but he got it wrong... in either case...

@dvamateur u right about that, i rather pay for a expensive airline but with proper pilots, than pay cheap fare and flying with pilots like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@lagartoteamFrance Totally agree. It's why I'm doing ATC instead of flying. Make more money, not enough in it to fly. And no, I highly HIGHLY doubt I'd EVER make such a stupid mistake and all I have is a private pilot with a few 100 hours VFR only. Fact is, they are over worked, TIRED and pay is way below where it should be. My guess we'll have a pilot shortage in the states in 20 years as people just stop even bothering applying to regionals. Only way to get to majors unless flew airforce.
@tealmarlin furthermore, regionals have shorter flights (reduces monotony), more day flying, you fly airports you're familiar with, less seasonal variation, more flexibility with vacation time, etc. Also, in the technology age, many regional pilots make money doing things like consulting, accounting, even law when they aren't on company time. I know a guy that makes ~75k flying a regional and another ~50k doing consulting work and spends 5+ nights/week at home. That's impossible at a major.
@krzdkanga Your (likely fictitious))pal is a minority, and your suggestions as to what pilots could be doing as a second job is nothing but rose-tinted idealism.,
Reality is nothing at all like how you imagine things are.
As with defending most deregulated markets that have gone wrong: instead of looking at the facts you make stuff up to suit your case - instead of bothering to actually look at what is happening.
Most regional pilots make less than 30k flying max hours, btw. That's reality.
@tealmarlin it isn't entirely true that flying the big jets is the only way to make money in the field. you can make close to six figures (in some cases even more) as a senior regional capt. but even if you are making 65k at a regional when you could be making 90k at a major, you have far more opportunities to fly regular out & backs or full circles. Many senior regional pilots may only spend 5-7 days away from home; even senior pilots at majors typically spend 19-23 days or so in a hotel
@k2s3p that is partially true. pilots are paid based on hours flown. even a 22 year old new hire is going to get paid at least twice what the most senior bus drivers are making per hour. the problem is, it is really difficult to schedule a new hire to fly very much. there are strict limitation imposed by the companies and the government as to how often they can fly, the types of flights they can fly, the experience, certifications, and safety records of the captains with whom they fly, etc
@alpik1979 Wouldn't really work ... its not the breaking up of the aircraft that kills the people, its the force of the impact (sudden stop) - with the FDR material this would be even worse ...
@alpik1979 The FDR & CVRs are protecting objects that can withstand far more forces than a human body (which are essentially water, subject to fluid dynamic forces, unlike the static nature of the recording equipment, which can survive FAR higher force than a people). Your idea wouldn't help - in fact it would add so much weight and volume that the plane would likely be unflyable, if even buildable at all. Nice try though.
Pilots who fly these planes are just using the experience as a stepping stone. People dont understand that the only pilots who make good money are the ones that fly wide body jets.
Ya know...ah could SWEAR that this is the same case that was Greg Fife's case!!Oh...hold on...no...that was a French plane...but WTF??...iss almost the same design as that French one...looks like...Ahm only half way through watching this as ahm typing...ah hope it turns out that iss nothing to do with ice on the wings and those 'boot' things!!Wonder why Greg has seemed to have juss disappeared from these prog's as well!!
@victoriaindigo Oh!!Ok...well thank you for letting meh know!!Ah relly DO miss his participation in these Aircrash clips etc...he was/IS such a distinctive guy...who relly DOES seem to know his 'stuff'!!All mah best to you...and thank you again for the info!!Love Em,x (Marilyn)
@Scott38660 The planes fly themselves. The autopilot feature along with other computers have slowly designed the pilot out of the cockpit. The pilots these days are mainly there to make sure nothing goes wrong and talk with controllers. While the pilot isn't going to disappear due to the flying fears people have currently, they may slowly begin to be phased out. Although I do agree that there do need to be regulations that allow pilots more rest periods. Sleepy pilots make bad decisions.
Because of this crash now i need an ATP certificate to become a first officer in an airline. Requiring more experience isn't going to stop Pilots from making mistakes, because i make mistakes, just makes it harder for people to fulfill their dreams of becoming an airline pilot. Your idea wouldn't help - in fact it would add so much weight and volume that the plane would likely be unflyable, if even buildable at all. Nice try though.

@tealmarlin hmm... I ssly dint knw that... Thanks for sharing the infro... You said you are in general aviation... Are you a pilot??
k2s3p 9 months ago
at one point he said wages of some pilots are <$16000/yr... less than a bus driver... Are you kidding me???
k2s3p 9 months ago
@k2s3p Im in general aviation, yes it is true...
Pilots who fly these planes are just using the experience as a stepping stone. People dont understand that the only pilots who make good money are the ones that fly wide body jets.

@TheMrMarilyn That was Frozen in Flight. I think Greg Feith is a consultant now, he retired from NTSB after solving some of the toughest cases.

I've heard stories about commercial planes flying with no pilot awake on them... Rules need to change and also for air traffic controllers.
Scott38660 10 months ago
@Scott38660 The planes fly themselves. The autopilot feature along with other computers have slowly designed the pilot out of the cockpit. The pilots these days are mainly there to make sure nothing goes wrong and talk with controllers. While the pilot isn't going to disappear due to the flying fears people have currently, they may slowly begin to be phased out. Although I do agree that there do need to be regulations that allow pilots more rest periods. Sleepy pilots make bad decisions.
