  • For really cool driving/flying sections in Batman, you should check out Batman The Movie on the Amiga.

    Brilliant! :)

  • This has been one of my fave games since i got the game for my 12th birthday for SNES and this was the last good Batman game before the Arkham games which rock

  • I will play this game on the 23rd of December.

  • I played Batman Returns for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was short but I also thought it was pretty hard, especially those Catwoman fights and the final Penguin Fight. The Batmobile level however, I thought was too easy.

  • Startropics intro ftw!

  • You are the Most Perfect game reviewer ever, even your Batman month review is Perfectly well done. you rock. :)

  • This game was so hard but very fun, one of the few games i replayed after 10 years

  • good old times...

  • It my #1 favorite game of all time.

  • Yeah that's what I ment.

  • Really I love the tim burton batman films and the chris Milan batman films as well.

  • @Harri927

Chris milan? You mean Chris Nolan right.

  • This game is #1, 10/10, and My favorite Batman game of all time.

  • I got another high score on Batman Returns: 045050.

  • Did kwing just get called a rip off to a person who is completely unoriginal? ugh, nothing makes sense anymore

  • @SmashLuigiFan1

    huh?

  • @kNIGHTWING01 i was saying that im surprised you were "ripping off" the irate gamer (i know you didnt) when he is a ripoff himself (he rips off the avgn)

  • @kNIGHTWING01 he wus saying that people shouldnt call you un original when u were there before tht irate gamer and ps retro mondays are my fav

  • I beatened it again and I got the high score 0436900.

    Pretty cool huh.

  • this ones kind of a reversal of the natural order, its a fun game based on a crap movie

  • @deathman1021

Stellar game based on an ok movie. This isn't Batman Forever or Batman & Robin films. Still Kevin Conroy AKA the real Batman, said that Keaton is his favorite live action Batman & his movies inspired him to be a better Dark Knight. Best Batman movie of all time is with out a doubt Mask of the Phantaism. Thanks for watching various vids today. =)

  • @kNIGHTWING01 Batman Returns is actually my favorite up to this point even over Dark Knight.

  • I love this game. One of my favorite Batman games ever made.

  • KWING YOU ROCK!

  • This is My #1 favorite batman game ever. I had beaten it 3 times without losing a life in the mania difficulty.

  • SNES: $50

    Batman Returns Cartridge: $3

Watching a bazooka clown blow up his buddies: Priceless!

  • Do you realize that avgn fans do not call any reviewers rip off but irate gamer fans call every almost every reviewers rip off

  • @milo20499 and yet none of them have ripped off anyone, its kinda silly, and for the record i watch em both

  • Considering you like Batman so much, I'm surprised you never talked about

the character who inspired him: The Shadow

  • Why must people continuously call majority of reviewers, Irate gamer rip offs, my god children get a life please...

  • @2600theeatari

I was around WAY before Irate I started in 2006 he started in Late 2007. Big difference kid.

  • @2600theeatari

I reviewed the Batman games before him. I don't pay attention to Chris's channel never have. Batman Returns takes place in Dec a few weeks before Christmas. Since I had the footage and wanted to re DO the review from July of 2007. I did so. Irate's vids aren't on par with mine. He has the views thats it. I could accuse him of copying me for reviewing a Batman game, but do you know how stupid that would be? I will never understand you rabbid Irate fans, you can't be that dumb?

  • @2600theeatari

he reviews a batman trailer while kwing reviews a batman game.

    OH MY GOD! direct plagiarism!

    you fucking idiot

  • @kNIGHTWING01 Hey Kwing, I love most of the stuff you do, been watching your videos for quite a while now and find them very helpful, so thanks for that.

Now, as well as modern games I also love the retro stuff and am missing the fact that you haven't upload a new Retro Monday video for a while. Therefore I gotta ask when are you gonna get time to continue this series.

    Many Thanks Friend

  • @Videoloveable

Mark your calendar for Jan 10th, for Season 2 of Retro Mondays to return. Just know that the series will not be every monday through out 2011. I will be taking breaks. The plan is atleast 40 Episodes.

  • @kNIGHTWING01

Thanks for the update Kwing (Luke), it's really appreciated. I'm glad that you continue to answer questions from your viewers. I understand that you gotta take breaks, but if you get to about 40 as you estimate then that's great and won't be hearing any complaints. Just out of curiosity, what s the next review gonna be????

  • @Videoloveable

Trying to shoot for 40 Episodes I might make 30 at this point. Doing my best. With all the stuff these days and daily content now...well its a lot. Thanks for watching.

  • @2600theeatari The irate gamer ripped off the AVGN.

    Suck it troll.

  • Awesome! You should review arkham asylum I'm really interested in your opinion and what you have to say about that game.

  • after playing this for myself I found this pretty difficult due to in the Beat em UP Stages Bats doesn't have .5 seconds of invincibility but in the action stages he doesn't...WTF! But I did find the Konami Code to get 9 Lives and Guarding against Catwoman a little easier If Only you could have 5 Test Tubes instead of 3 per Stage till you get more GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! But this game does deserve the title of BEST MOVIE Based Game EVER!

  • cant wait 4 arkham asyum review

u shuld do arkham city right after arkham asylum

  • I recently got this back in the summer of this year and so far it's good! It's one of the few Konami titles for the SNES I now own. Batman Returns for the SNES is awesome! It's much better than the NES version. I like everything about this game! I hope to play The Adventures of Batman and Robin for the SNES soon. I liked your new review on this!

  • Good ol' 2D games :)

  • This is a awesome game:)i really love when you can pick up the bomb and attach them to the clowns and watch them blow up=D

  • I never played this game but I think i might have played a genesis version

  • This is a great game, I would love to see it on the virtual console.

  • Hope this game release in the VC

  • The game is 4/10. There is just so much better Beat Em Ups....

  • i loved the music!

  • Please Kwing, I'm trying to finish my history assignment and you are distracting me :)

  • Batman has got to be the greatest hero out there. I mean he dosen't have any super powers yet it seems like he does for crying out loud!

  • Speaking of using the Batmobile to travel around the city, you might get your wish Kwing because the next Batman game Arkham City is going to be more open allowing you to explore different parts of the city. I am greatly looking forward to Arkham City and I'm curious about the plot. It looks like Hugo Strange might be the main villain instead of the Joker.

  • Wasn't there a driving to in the batmobile segments on the PS1 batman game?

  • @LarryBundyJr

You talking the Batman & Robin PSX game? Yeah there was but it was executed very badly.

  • The intro was so catchy i actually hummed to it while my brother was near me. And then when I said "Retro Mondays" aloud he had a very confused face. :)

btw I love Retro Mondays! I never grew up with the retro games so I really don't know much about it except for the major stuff(Mario was a revolutionizing game etc.) And thats still one of the reasons I subscribed to you. Also the fact that your AWESOME! :D lol too far? :)

  • Hey Kwing I have the genesis version of Batman Returns but why is my version completely different than your SNES version?

  • @TheLiquidusnake

Simple. Sega made the Genesis one and Konami made the Nintendo ones.

  • @kNIGHTWING01 That makes sense. I kinda always wondered why they weren't made by the same developer. I think I find the SNES version superior cuz it seems more fun than what I got. I got nothing against the platforming in the genesis version but I know there are other Batman games that did better in that genre, but still the genesis version still entertains me like any other game.

  • maximum carange owns this game

  • @JiuDoRick

I reviewed that game, search for it on YT or my playlists. Fun game.

  • @ TitanDweevil no..,

    Great game/ AWESOME MOVIE/!!

2 graphic novels are never the same so is with Burtons interpretation of the Batman which I prefer than many others.. DARK KNIGHT was the shit no doubt but I still prefer Keatons little smirk as Batman than Bales undertoned growl/ voice anyday!!

  • @RedH0plite i agree

  • @RedH0plite

    What about Kevin Conroy?

  • Good game, shit movie...

  • I meant to say my favourite Batman movies.... Keaton/ Burton ones.. Lol!! Sorry for the spelling

  • Oh and my favourite Neman movies are the Keaton/ Nurton ones too!

Awesome stuff... Might take your advise and watch it again during these Xmas weeks

  • @ kNIGHTWING01 well it's done sir!!!

You won me over! After being a die hard sega fan ,I have bought my first Snes from my m8 ( minty mint one with no yellowing!) and "super mario bros" super Rtype" and winning a bid on Batman returns !!

Merry Xmas to me!! I plan to have a blast cheers bud!

  • wheren't most Batman movies in the 80s - 90s set at Christmas? I don't really remember. I think the last 2 were the only ones that weren't.

  • @MaverickhunterXZero dont know but you can see if you go to wallmart and get the set on dvd for 9 bucks so you do that

  • @BrolyFan23

Thats ok, game will still be fun for ya. Remember to block and avoid using the special attacks unless your in over your head. Yes Ive played the Spawn games for Snes. I feel that Returns is a better licensed Snes beat em up though. Parts of Spawn were too annoying for me.

  • Huzzah! Its everybody's favorite Misanthropic Emo Vigilante who isnt smart enough to realize he should build an ironman style armor and kill the joker [guilt of losing 1000 innocents to joker gas > guilt of killing 1 socipath]

I liked this game, they should have sequel'd this style in newer Batman/ DC games

    ...Death Of Supes doesnt count...

  • @LeoHwzrChannel

Batman doesn't kill. He did in the 40s. But since then if he kills, he is no better then the scum he fights. He walks the thin line of the abyss every night, but hasn't fallen in. He could kill the Joker at anytime, but would become what he fights against. Iron man is an immoral man an anti hero, who half the time is a drunk and is nothing like Batman.. Its easy to kill, but do what Batman does and let them live in fear..is something else entirely.

  • Im an Army Vet, SO believe me when i say killing is not to be taken lightly. Joker cant be treated, joker cant be reasoned with, if it was just him being a nuisance-then throw him back in arkham. But hes not. He kills and kills and kills everytime he gets loose. If Bats would get the hint that longterm wise: "Joker isnt any help in saving gotham or the potential good that his victims might have done for all of humanity" THEN maybe=

  • Barbara wouldnt be parylized, Red hood/Robin's Mother wouldnt have been killed, Harley Quinn might go back to being a doctor and help in Arkham, and that wack job whose Perma grin in the Current Batman comics wouldnt have arranged to have hundreds of Bat and Joker Imposters Kill each other recently.

...And the iron suit is just more practical, and Ironman beat up commies, who cares if he has a "VICE"... of course Ironman is too stupid to layer his suit with adamantium, "Geniuses" my butt

  • @LeoHwzrChannel

I know killing isn't to be taken lightly. Iron man just kills to kill though. Most marvel heroes do. Batman has a reason for not killing joker. But If I was Batman I would kill him because of all the harm he does. Just like Keaton did in the 1st Batman film.

  • @kNIGHTWING01 i know batman dose not kill butt i would kill joker cuz of all th men women and kids he's killed oh and he killed robin Why Joker WHY

  • @kNIGHTWING01 Well, as joker himself once put it, "You can't kill me bats! Without me you have nothing to live for do you..."

Not the exact words, but you get the jest

  • Are you ever gonna run out of Retro Games to review? lol and do you own each one?

  • @DethMagnetik

Nope and yes for the most part I own them. I sold my imported games and will have to use a rom. I was very big into roms back in the late 90s I had to many to count. When I started getting into the Industry my stance on roms use changed. It is piracy and developers view on it is mixed. Some take action like Nintendo, others are hurt by it and some aren't bothered by it.

  • your intro song sounds so familiar, what is it from? I forget

  • @WillyM79 Sonic?

  • @WillyM79

    StarTropics

  • @kNIGHTWING01 ah ok thanks

  • great review man

  • @FanboyD2

    Thankyou

  • This is one of the games pretty high on my wish list. I thought Batman Returns had the best action scenes of the original four films, I guess it's only fitting that the game would too.

  • @desotowright

Your right lots of fighting in Batman Returns. He takes on a whole gang of deranged clowns. Kills most of them too. Batman Begins has the warehouse seen and where he fights a few Ninjas. Lots of action in Dark Knight, but not really massive hand to hand combat.

  • still own this game and it rocks.

  • Hey Kwing, do you still have the kickass mustache?

  • @DEK141

Yes I do! Not shaving that off. Much thicker now too.

  • Awesome review!

Damn you've made me want a snes now!

  • @RedH0plite

Thanks! Glad I was able to keep ya entertained. Super Nintendo doesn't run much these days and Returns isn't a rare game either.

  • I miss Michael Keaton. I wish he would make a cameo in the next Batman movie. Another great review Kwing. Its funny my dad brought up a great point. He saw the trailer for the new Arkham game and he said the Batman video game series has been pretty good. And I thought he was absolutely right, especially when you compare it to other superhero games. I mean they really hasnt been any great Superman game. Ya gotta love the Batman.

  • @TheCraneOfTruth

I think if they do a Batman Beyond movie, Keaton should reprise his role or better yet. The Dark Knight Returns books. Keaton is old enough now. Batman makes a better video game character and is easy to incorporate. Same goes for Tv shows, cartoons, movies etc. Other super heroes like Superman are harder to make games for him, because the guy is invincible. Except for his weakness. To my knowledge there is no true Superman game, he always has a life bar of some short.

  • Now I'm not really a DC guy, but as a kid, I always loved the first two Batman movies, so when I played this game, I was seriously impressed by it. As you pointed out, graphics, gameplay, and music helped capture the film that Burton had created.

I honestly haven't thought about this game in years, yet the movie always come on around this time of year, guess it's time to get this as a Christmas gift to my self

  • @Dragoncry12

I suggest watching the movie this week and playing the game if you can too. Oh and watch Die Hard if you get a chance. All are guy Christmas movies. Save its wonderful life or Jingle all the way to the week of Xmas.

  • @kNIGHTWING01 Yeah I am gonna track the game down, or maybe one of the classic games stores has it, its a few towns away but i can make the trip.

Oh and trust me Kwing, Die Hard 1 & 2 and the first Lethal Weapon are always at the top of my holiday movie watch list! Its a tradition my father and I have, since I have been watching those movies since I was a kid....nothing says Merry Christmas like Bruce Willis taking on Terrorist and saving Christmas! It wouldn't be Christmas really.

  • Love your reviews but seems every game you review for retro mondays flood of great memories come back. Even this one still have my Snes copy of this batman i managed to beat it on all difficulty setting back in the day. Remember getting home from school and playing my Snes for hours good times.

  • @bahamut2451

THank you. Its all part of my plan to try and take over the world!

You beat it on Mania? WOW. I came close to it. Couldn't beat level 4 with no health and limited flash bangs. You got skillz man.

  • Is it too much to ask for some Nightwing exposure in the upcoming Arkham city? It's plausible given the timeframe... better him than Catwoman, or worse--Jason Todd.

  • @SmootheJammin

Only games to feature some of the Bat family were the BTAS,Vengeance,SinTzu & Dark Tomorrow. All other Batman games he is solo. Except for Brave and the bold.

  • This game was sweet. I remember when I first started playing this game being blown away by the graphics and the attention to detail. The music remixes was great too. All of it was from the movie,

  • @xxashyy

For its day friend, Returns is the model movie games should have followed. Actually even today this game should be a blue print of it. Especially considering the fine attention to detail with Visuals, characters, atmosphere and music. Batman begins wasn't a bad licensed movie game either. But even if the unlock able costumes...it got old pretty fast.

  • #LOL you should play batman forever just for kicks and giggles.

  • @puzzlinggamer

I won't be playing that until I have too.

  • Absolutely loved this game back in the day.

    And then Batman Forever. *shudders*

  • @chrisbg99

I really don't want to do Batman Forever...but its part of my Batman Series 2. That and its Arcade game.

  • @kNIGHTWING01

I just brought it up because that particular game scarred me as a kid. Just so freaking terrible. And the load times.

One positive though, it was one of the games that made me realize that just because the graphics look kinda cool (and at the time they did) it means absolutely nothing,

  • one of the greatest beat'em'ups...and if it were 2plyr co-op it may have been 'right up there'!

  • @cyanidebreathmintz

I don't see how it could be 2 player, since Robin was removed from the movie entirely until Batman Forever. While the Batman Forever Arcade game wasn't bad. Returns is still one of the best Beat em ups of all time.

  • When you do review arkham asylum I will say this. One of Jokers lines references the famed comic The Killing Joke hell Bats(Bruce) laughed with Joker once too! Damn not sure which review on this one you did their both awesome

  • @Kaibaman41

I know Batman AA is chalk full of comic references and BTAS as well. Its a good game don't get me wrong, but for me it lost its magic after one playthrough. Since its been since release that Ive played it. When I play it again for my Batman Series 2 I will get a better understanding of it. But looking for the Riddler stuff isn't enough for replay or funfactor. Especially the fun pick up and play of Batman Returns yr after yr.

  • @kNIGHTWING01

Its understandable you gotta have your own point of view, arkham city will take place 1 year after aa Hugo Strange knows Batman's Identity and The Joker is dying.Oh in the not too distant future The X-Men arcade is comming to the PS3's PSN and X Box Live Huzzah for no more Quarter SPENDING.

  • Shrek has his own bar, lucky ogre!

  • .....I am Batman.

  • I'm Batmaaaaaaaaaaan!

    (AVGN Reference)

  • "Once you start chucking clowns, you never go back." HAHA

  • i remember playing this on the sega genesis. pretty sure snes got a better port

  • @rangermerrydog the genesis version was completely different game.

  • @rangermerrydog

Genesis game was a platforming/action game and honestly wasn't that good. It wasn't bad. But playing Batman Returns on Snes not even a contest. The sega CD port had a really cool Batmobile and Batboat level though.

  • I remember really enjoying this game when I rented it way back in the day. My local comic shop has it and I've been tempted to pick it up for old time's sake. Great review as always, Luke! :)

  • @Medikor

Your local comic book store has this? EPIC! For old time sakes and if you have a working Snes, yes pick up the game. So worth. Thanks Medikor, glad you enjoyed the review.

  • wow you are so right i loved that game thanks for the memories

  • @foxdie10000

I hear that a lot too XD

Your welcome happy to bring back memories of games from our childhood.

  • Nice stuff! Well done and great game!

  • @bertinouellet

Thanks! Yeah its a cool game.

  • You have such a funny "excited" voice Kwing.

Can't wait for the new Kirby videos!

  • @1in6win

That's a new one. Yeah we have a new Kirby video tonight and tomorrow.

  • Aww i wanted kwing to respond to my comment :p

  • @ConnorStroff1

    I did.

  • I was about to say where is the retroness? xD

I actually don't remember this game but nonetheless it looks good!

  • Sweet clocking out for the night all, enjoy the video catch ya tomorrow.

  • great review as always k-wing i love the batman returns game for the snes and to me batman returns along with the adventures of batman and robin for the snes are the best batman games ever batman arkham asylum is also a great batman game as well and i hope the new batman game batman arkham city will be as good as arkham asylum it better not suck because its about time we got a good batman game sence the adventures of batman and robin for the snes

  • @heerogunkenobi i really wish that konami would re-release batman returns on the wii virtual console but sadly i guess it will never happen sence konami no longer have the rights to batman anymore so great review k-wing looking foward for more great retro monday reviews

  • @heerogunkenobi

We still need the sandbox Batman game or atleast give us the option of driving the vehicles and having detective mode about solving crimes and not enhanced night vision.

  • @kNIGHTWING01 yeah your right it would be great to have a sandbox batman game

  • Kwing Violent Storm was also a good beat em up by Konami. Also do you get annoyed by people saying "ZOMFG Arkham is the best one!" without caring about the NES and SNES games. I tell that to my friends but all they say is "Retro Games suck"...this is why i hate FPS

  • @oxe161

Im not a huge Batman AA fan its great and all. But I didn't feel like playing it after beating it once. Even playing as the Joker wasn't enough for me. When I finally review the game, it will be my 2nd time through the game. But the older Batman games were just more fun. Except for Batman forever,Robin on PSX and some others. I don't think it sucks or anything, but Im not going to fawn over it. People say retro sucks mainly cause they can't play it and don't like the graphics...its sad

  • dear lord, how much are you gonna keep this going, I mean how many games did you have as a child? :S

    They (retro-mondays) are awesome, though.

  • @ALex4815162342

As I kid I had probably 80 Snes and 50 Nes. Then when I was teen I hit up Garage sales then sold half my collection to buy my Wife's 1st engagement ring. After that I got lucky and found most of games again and now about 2K in games. All boxed in the basement. I will never run out of games to review from 85 to today. Kind of sad. Even in my life time I don't think I will get to review all of them.

  • I love beat em ups. Is it for the wii console?

  • @cguevara12

    Sadly no

  • Great Review, I never played this one but now its going on my "list of classic games I must have". Funny, every time I watch on of your Retro Mondays my list get's longer and longer.

  • @hessrf1981

Muahahahaha my evil plan is working, soon you will own all the games I do...or not. Probably not a good idea, trust me space becomes a problem.

  • @kNIGHTWING01 LOL, too late for that, I started collecting classic game consoles 2 years ago, I'm staring to run out of room for my consoles and my games already... that reminds me know anyone whos selling a Intellivision? ;)

  • to be honast I would acually prefer if you reviews Batman Begins for the Gamecube. Thas defanatly my favorite Batman game for sure. Course im defenatly planing on picking this up alongside TMNT II in January when i get my FC Twin

  • @VGA322

I did Batman Begins in 2008 it has over 500k in views.

  • @VGA322 really O.o.. I need to pay mroe attention XD

  • @VGA322

Search Batman Begins Review and presto there I am.

  • Safe Christmas, lol. What are we going to do? I suppose an angel might fall on us or something...

  • @gestaltartist

People could get into an accident or something, life is funny you never know.

  • @kNIGHTWING01 I suppose that's true. Its just that usually people say have a safe Halloween and have a merry Christmas. And I do have to fly, so I guess something could go wrong there. Then there's the ice that you could easily fall on. Not to mention frostbite. And the pipes weren't rigged well in the old building I live in, so there was a gas leak from the pipes contracting. I think you've worried me now more than anything. ^_^

  • @gestaltartist

Sorry man, have a merry christmas =)

  • again man i really wanted a new game

  • @chanegun

RM isn't about new games 1985 to 2000. Current or next gen get reviewed on the weekends. Unless problems occurred with production like with Death Spank 2 and DKC Returns for examples last weekend.

  • @kNIGHTWING01

Excellent review, keep up the good work!

Just wanted to know if you'll be doing some more underrated games this month. God bless happy gaming!

  • @MrSaturn22222

Underrated this month? Nope Jan. This month we got 2 big titles for the GB and Genesis to end the yr with a BANG!

  • Ok I HIGHLY doubt that those types of reviews take "many months of prep time." A week tops, but no, sorry just no.

  • @ilikepiedontu

Um the way I do 30 or 45 min episodes take a long time. AC2 took from mid Nov to Jan to finish. Then again it is the best AC2 review on the net period. I also have the most entertaining, detailed and Indepth Chrono Trigger Review on the planet that took a yr of prep time. Total tun time on that video is almost 50 mins. You have to remember to Im a freelance journalist for longer videos I can only devout about 8 hrs a week on it, if that, that inculdes recording and processing.

  • Kwing, what is the worst game you or your wife ever played?

  • @jenningsslayer314

Worst one of all time? I will have to get back to you on that. Ive been gaming a long time. Worst game Ive played this yr would be Saint, Lost Planet 2, Force Unleashed 2, Rabbids Travel in Time & Moto Gp 09/10.

  • very nice review I want to play this game now

  • @CoolioVids101

    Sweet thanks!

  • im always happy to see a retro monday's in my sub box

  • great game
