Ferret stealing stuff off desk

Im hopefully getting a ferret soon but one day of the week im not home so my ferret will be left alone for the night and then for about 5 hours during a few days of the week whilst i work, would 1 ferret get lonely, or would you reccomend getting 2?

@JackleSpanner Even if you were home all the time, I would recommend having 2 or more. Ferrets are very sociable animals and love to sleep and cuddle together. I started out with one female but then we bought a male for her to play with and be her cage mate. Needless to say they are inseparable :))

ferrets are straight descendants of the skunks...they kept their survival instinct very sharp. also... they dont smell as bad as people think...keep the cage clean and wash her with a non parfumed shampoo every months or so

@Falfuris You're right they dont smell that bad, & baths do help but they are not descendants of skunks, they arent even in the same family though they are in the same superfamily (though I see the similarity). Weasels, ferrets, badgers, & otters are in the same family. Some people think we domesticated them from polecats(despite the name these arent cats,they look much like ferrets) or something similar. Oh and ferrets do very well with litterbox training and this keeps smells down as well.

@nita2605 also, if you have another animal...be there when they see each other...a ferret that has tasted blood...will want more...also a trivia stuff...if you pull the skin behind their head like a cat (not to hard but firmly) the ferret paralizes and you can cut her nails or brush her teeth or stuff for a solid 30 seconds before having to reassure the firm on the ferret skin...it doesnt hurt them and it helps

@Falfuris while most of what you say is true, its not "when ferrets taste blood they want more" thats just silly. ferrets kill rodents, no matter how well trained, and a ferret that bits a dog or cat can be trained not to bite again.

They only bite when poorly trained or when cared for and handled very badly. All pets will have some kind of odor; if not, their dung surely will. If you had taken it to a shelter instead of leaving it to die, it could have found a home that actually wanted it. With any luck, the home it found would be one that actually knew how to care for it.

@CaileysOriginals You really should go to a breeder or find a shelter that has abandoned ferrets. A lot of people on youtube say that ferrets are frequently abandoned because their owners found them difficult to raise. A ferret is not a mouse and should not be raised like one.
