  • this is what i used to think until i learned about short term fasting. now I'm not so sure. fasting science seems to make a LOT of sense. so fast here and there and still lift. check out dr. joel fuhrman's books, fascinating info

  • This is completely ridiculous, your body does NOT go to muscle at first when your body goes into starvation mode. It goes to the fat stores. That's basic nutrition and dieting info 101. The only way your body would do that is if you were to have a very low body fat percentage (say, under 10%) but it would still go to your fat reserves 1st. This guy is a joke, seriously. If you want real, reliable and valid nutrition and exercise/workout information check out Scotthermanfitness or Scooby1961

I don't really know what you are getting at as it's so jumbled together but to say your body burns off muscle first as an energy source defies basic human physiology. That's the whole point of fat. The heart is a muscle which your theory says it will eat itself for energy. That makes no sense. I'm an ASCM certified fitness trainer so I'm fairly certain I know more of what I'm talking about more than you

  • @kalmond1 ur heart, ur brain are two of the most important organs, ur limb muscle are nto as important as ur heart muscle. think of it this way, if u work out but dont eat properly, ur dotn get as strong and ur muscle can shrink, yes the fat will go but so will the muscle. u no i am right, just except and i sussed this for my self, looks like ur need to read books and jsut take up anythign u read like a idiot :D

  • If this "expert" knew anything about human biology and evolution, he would know that evolution has given humans the ability to go long amounts of time without food. The average human 10,000 years go, or even as early as 3,000 years ago did not eat more than one time a day (two times if they were lucky) and those humans were in far better physical conditions than todays humans who eat 3+ times a day.

  • This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. The body does not go into starvation mode after 3-4 hours. And it does not get its energy from muscle tissue unless there is extreme starvation.

    It takes more than 24 hours of no food for the body to go into starvation mode; slowing of the metabolism and use of energy stores. Furthermore, when the body does go into starvation mode, it uses FAT stores, not muscle tissue. It will use muscle tissue when it can no longer burn fat at a fast enough pace.

  • @BenjaminPipic I second this. As long as you are combining resistance training into your workouts you will not lose muscle mass under a reasonable calorie deficit.

  • Dude your body won't eat muscle if you don't eat for 3-4 hours. That's so freaking stupid. Every convict would be skinny because they just get 3 crappy meals a day.

    As long as you have decent nutrition with normal glycogen and glucose stores, have some non-essential bodyfat (above 5% or so in adult males) and adequate dietary protein, you will not "burn" significant amounts of muscle tissue as the result of resistance training or aerobic exercise.

  • @brandonarp93 those scales are unreliable. I remember back when I was fat, the scales said I was 15%. 15% is pretty much normal. to see your six pack you must go down to 10% or less. if you don't have a six pack at single digit body fat, your scale is wrong

    Body Fat is the composition of fat comparative to muscle. Skinny people can have NO muscle mass, and can be just fat. Hance ... skinny fat person.

    As for starving yourself, theoretically protein (muscle) is only used as an energy source as a last resort. So technically if you dont eat for 4 hours you wont lose muscle mass, as long as you eat correctly.

    to lose body fat effectivley, you do intense interval training.

    i.e sprint 30 seconds, jog 60 seconds.

    You burn your glycogen stores (energy) through high intensity excercise, the low intensity (jogging) burns your trigylceride stores (fat stores).

    but you dont need to thousands of situps to work them.

    Compound excercises will help them. Dead lifts and squats work your abs by supporting your back.

    Floor wipers are also good for abs.

  • Man, getting abs does take doing 1000's of crunches a day. I bet what this guy goes through is hell in and out of the gym daily, and he diets 100% clean foods. There's no way you can get abs without doing cardio, there's no way of getting abs without dieting right. That plain and simple. Nothing magical about it, there's no program you need to buy, it's just eat less, eat clean, workout, and in time your abs will come.
