@guitarzz24 it will work, but you need a noise gate or hotrail-like humbucker, cause the noise is ANNOYING. i would recommend you a hotrail wich you can split, so you have a really versitale guitar that looks just like another strat.
@givemeajackson ok thanks alot. would io get a hot rail for everypick up or just one? im not really much of an electronics guy..ik quite a bit about guitars...but im only 15 so i still have a lot to learn abt them...
@guitarzz24 only one in the bridge position, u normally use the bridge pu for rock or hard rock. btw, i'm not older than you, but this humbucker-singlecoil-singlecoil setup was one of the most used configurations in 70's-80's hard rock. one good thing about the hotrail is that you can split it, so only one coil works= single coil, or you can use it like a normal humbucker.
@xHefpioTx it all depends on the player imho ... with a good distortion pedal or a good amp .. you can still make this beauty scream :) ironmaiden used strats ;) ... switching the pickups would obviously help alot :)
I have a MIM strat exactly like this one. I have to say I LOVE it. As the comments before me say... they are great for jazz and blues. The twang is awesome if that's what you're looking for. I paid 250 for mine and had it Setup and tlc'd by Mouridian Guitar Co. in Winchester massachusetts. they are the best in the biz... I will never take my guitars to anyone else. anyway... BEST 250 I EVER SPENT!!!
whats your style? fenders are ideal for blues, jazz, country, and light to medium rock. not so good for hard rock. but they are very versatile. its just the pickups aren't as powerful as humbuckers on les pauls and such so they arent as good for heavy metal. but then again hendrix made his strat sing and he played some pretty hard stuff
well yo can't exactly "drop one in". there isn't enough room. you can change the pickups to one thats hotter with some noise cancelling qualities (look at the dimarzio or seymour duncan sites). or you can guy a fender HSS whick comes with a humbucker at the bridge pickup
All you have to do is buy a S/S/HB pickguard. Careful when you put an HB in there you want to make sure that the output is relatively the same as the singles or you'll kill your forth position. I put a rio grande bbq bucker in and it did this. It over powered my singles. Just didnt sound good. had to mess with th evolume too much as it had way more output than the singles(hot noiseless), even after dropping it down as far as it could go. Buy the new american special strat with HB
im sure you can, its just not optimal lol. if your spending that much money to play metal youre gonna want to get one made for it you know? or something with a stronger pick up
yeah dude you can do hard rock, you just won't have as traditional of a hard rock sound. tom morello uses modded strats and doesn't have a super heavy distortion sound, but he gets that hard rock vibe and feel from the way he plays and the way the rest of the band sounds
but if you wanna get a hrd rock sound w/ a strat, check out the fender american special hss. they just came out and have a humbucker in the bridge that would be perfect for what you're looking for
did you have any trouble adjusting to this guitar when you got it? i just bought one and im having a bit of trouble getting used to it, it's more than likely the v neck which feels great but i've always used u's. i know i will feel it eventually but i wondered if it was just me lol great playing by the way :P
Thanks for kind words. It took some time adjusting to the neck. I'm still adjusting the hight of the strings up and down to get i perfect. But one day it will be just right I hope :)
nice playing. how are the fret wires on that guitar? Is it chunky or narrow? Can you slide with ease or you have to leave skin of your fingertips behind??:) one last question, is the fingerboard yellowish maple(tinted dark) or just white? thanks
The frets are "medium" chunky. The sliding is easy and I keep the skin on my fingers. The difficult part is the bending of the strings. I'm still adjusting the hight of them to get them to sing all the way to 21 fret when bending.
The finish on the neck is yellowish.
By the way, if your planning on buying a new axe, check out the new "road worn" collection from fender.
yeah - try seymour duncan pickups, they do a pickup called the JB junior which is a single coil size but the pickup its self is a humbucker and a good one at that, they do other pickups too so there are more options, google them and have a look on ther site
American standard has a slimer neck, and it looks newer in the wood. The sound is a little bit different to. The tuners and the bridge assembly has a different look than the standard
I love the 50's style with all the clean lines. The pickguard is thin and all white with less bolts in it. Also like the yellow'ish finish on the mapleneck on the 50's. The tuners are also more classic with the old round shape. The peghead is smaler than the highway 1's, also something that i like. The 3 new American Vintage pickups have a great sound, and the fret board has only 21 frets. All in all I think it's up to your own taste. But as you might understand, I would go for the vintage 57str
Thanks .. although i asked for a sound-wise suggestion... do you think an american highway one fender would sound better than a mexican fender 50s? Cheers mate :)
