On behalf of everyone at Ken Zen Ichii and the Brotherhood of Self Defense and Respect, let me take this opportunity to express our deepest regrets for the loss of Sensei Palo Childress, who died tragically earlier this week. Palo is also the son of Soke Dwight Childress and Delores Childress, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to both of them in this time of need.
Dwight and Delores, our prayers are with you both.
Nice video.... My dad is Dave Arnold. I was practically raised in the Dojo although I never got into it myself - my Dad tried though! Nice vid though!
Angelenio1, If some people claims to be from Kong Orling's lineage and as you said yourself, your moves are similar with theirs, then they are from Kong Orlings lineage, regardless of what name they want their group to be called. Maybe that was what their teacher told them. If they say they are ken zen ichii, you cant stop them. I am KenZenIchii and I dont see a move similar with Wado from their moves but still If they say they are kenzenichii, its up to them. Pls send my regards to Kong Orling.
Hello Ira, Mr. Fugueroa of Comjuka adviced me to address you as Ira because you prefer it that way, I heard that you were the first elected screening and promotions committee chairman of the Central Luzon Martial Arts Brotherhood. Mr. Figueroa also showed me a photo of the Angeles Karate Brotherhood and I found out that you and Sensei Orling were brothers in that organization. I have heard lots of things about your Dad and kenzenichii since I started to ask the old teachers here in Angeles City
Angelenio1, allow me to explain to you some matters regarding this matter. Mr. Bee formulated KZI based on the Wado Ryu that He had learned from Master Otsuka in Japan. My Dad was His right hand man and Kong Orling was in turn My Dads friend. Kong Orling, practiced Wado with my Dad but later on stopped and continued His training with The the Casero Brothers Kyokushin and later on with the Gonzales Shorin Ryu Karate Which He used to develop what we, Angelenio's know as Centeno Style Karate.
Hello friend, the last time we corresponded with each other, I may have come off abrasive and I apologize. The KZI family is pretty large. I hope that we could respect each other as being different branches of the KZI family. People grow in different ways. Everyone's journey is different however just because we take two different paths doesnt mean we cant build relations wth each other.
I look forward to yours, mine, and KZI's continuous growth.
I understand when someone makes a claim you must verify the claim. If someone was claiming Soke as their teacher and we never heard of them, then we would have to verify it as well. If you are really that curious about KZI, then go to the website and get some of the DVD's. Regardless of your background, these DVD;s are great tools for growth. Lets build and stop whining over names. Sensei Centeno is a part of our lineage and thats the way it is. Now lets move on and build
Karate is not just physical training, one should also learn to trace its real history and origin. At Centeno's Gym, We were trained to be humble, in competition, when we are hit, we always accept the ability of our opponent and give him and his teacher the proper credit for it. We, direct students of Sensei Orling, are proud of our style of Centeno Style karate and not the styles that developed by other people.
Hello, I was born, raised and still am here in Angeles City, and I knew Sensei Orling, (Only those who have close relations with Him are allowed to call Him Orling), since my childhood, I saw, american GI's come and go to train since the late 60's and even in those times, Centeno's Karate was not kenzenichii. Ive made some askings myself from old teachers here and every sensei from the early 60's knew My Sensei Orling and also informed me about kenzenichii and who are the people behind it.
I am not making a mistake, sorry if i seem to be making one, but as a student of Sensei Centeno, I am proud to say that I am a Centeno Karate Stylist and I will not give credit to any schools name, in this case ken zen ichii, on what I have learned from my teacher, Sensei Orlando Centeno.
Hello Angelenio1, I am a student of Soke Dwight Childress of Poughkeepsie NY. Soke Childress is now located in North Carolina. Soke Childress was a student of Orlando Centeno while in the Philippines. I would love to come over there and meet Sensei Centeno someday, I have heard nothing but good things about him. As far as names of styles go, they never hurt anyone, its the karate that does the damage. Peace and good will OUS!
Hi, I do believe that anyone will be welcome to visit Sensei Centeno, But if you are expecting to see a dojo, im sorry to dissapoint you but they no longer practice karete at Centeno's Gym only body building and powerlifting. And if you do visit, dont wear jewelries, its not a very friendly neighborhood.
When it comes to names, i dont know, but we never heard sensei centeno called his karate as kenzenichii. We intend not to incorporate His name with other groups name. Centeno Karate is Centeno Karate, no other names.
Hello, I am from Angeles City, Philippines and I see that we have the same moves in our karate stances. Oh I forgot to mention, I studied karate at the Centurion Dojo (a dojo inside Centenos Gym) but we are not kenzenichi. The system that Sensei Centeno was teaching back then was considered Centeno Karate.
Peace and blessings to you my brother. Make no mistake. You where blessed to train at the root of it all. Not to get caught up in names, but recognize the DNA! You see in the motions. Indeed we are related. Ous!
Hello again, I have asked one of the senior instructors of the Centeno Karate and they explained to me about this ken zen ichii (I spelled it as kenzenichi yesterday sorry), It is a style formulated by the teacher of a Mr. Gurrero Watanabe a friend of Mr. Centeno during their Wado style days. Many Wado Stylist here in Angeles City are not kenzenichii stylist and Centeno Sensei went on to join other groups in angeles city and left wado style before kenzenichii was born
I'll post them up soon. Where do you train?
