  • how is this gun for reliability and accuracy? would you trust it to protect your family?

please get back to me, i'm considering this or the para.

  • @zombieknifenut If you can find the torture test that Patrick Sweeny performed on several high end 1911s and the RIA you'd definitely find your answer. The Rock ran with the best. In my experience they are reliable and accurate. I have coworkers who own RIAs and they are dead on @ 25 yards.

Now ParaOrdnance make some nice 1911s and I wouldn't hesitate getting one of theirs. I originally was gonna pick up a Para instead of a Rock, but my wallet said otherwise. You will be happy with either IMHO.

  • That's a peeerrrrttyyy gun. Is this by chance at van Nuys gun range? I swear this plac looks familiar

  • @EyeKnifeyou Thanks. Actually it's not the one in Van Nuys, but it sure does from that angle doesn't it? That was my indoor range when I lived back in the Valley.

  • @EyeKnifeyou The range in the vid is located south of Dallas. Where I currently live.

  • Why only 4-5 rounds per mag?

  • @bubba55l I load the mags with 5 becuz the box has 10 rows of 5. Just a little OCD thing I do. LOL!!!

  • man i WANT that pistol.

damn you UK guns laws :(

  • @nuttyape Sorry dude. But ya know what? There's room for ya here in the U.S. Come on over!!!

  • @UrbanTiger74 i may just do that dude :P

  • I want to see your groupings!!

  • Check out my groupings on the other vids.. Target distance was 7 yards. Shots were from the 8 ring and inward.

  • made in the Phillipinies?

  • Affirmative.

  • how do they compare o the taurus pt1911?

  • wait is the shooter not filling up his clips all the way? can't a 1911 fit 7-8 ACP rounds?

  • YUP! You caught me. LOL!!! It's an OCD range thing with me. All personel preference.

  • lol

  • @blackMAMBA724 DAMMIT THEY ARE MAGAZINES...........MAGAZINES...............MAGAZINES............... semi-auto handguns are NOT fed by "clips". They are fed by "MAGAZINES".

  • @HYBRIDCOMBATIVES i know rifles are fed by magazines but pistols? then what is fed by clips?

  • @blackMAMBA724 Most modern carbines/ rifles are detachable box magazine fed, but some others have fixed magazines that are clip fed. Like the US M1 Garand Rifle of WW2 fame. A clip is a metal retaining device that is used to hold the cartridges togather while feedning INTO A a magazine. THERE IS NO CLIP FED HANDGUN.

  • @HYBRIDCOMBATIVES OOOOOO..now i get it. All you had to say was M1 garand. My favorite rifle ever. Thanks for the explanation.

  • @blackMAMBA724 rock on

  • i have a r.i.a. 1911...it's very nice! i paid $395 plus tax for it. i do need to change out the factory, plastic pistol grips, but other than that...perfect gun from what i can tell.

  • Can't beat the price. Do you have the G.I. or Tactical version?

  • i have the g.i. version

  • I have a Rock Island Armory 1911 with the plain smooth wood grips. Extremely comfortable.

  • niiice

  • Kimber is overrated... Rock Island or Armscor is more durable and reliable. Its made in the Philippines so you know that its made with high quality materials and craftmanship.

  • I'm not sure if I should chuckle or agree with you on this, but Kimber does have a lemon or two now and then. I'm not gonna say which one is better, but I can say is that both shoot as well as the other and since one uses a more economical way of building, it offers savings to the buyer.

  • if you think kimbers are overrated then you havent shot one. kimbers make these phillipino things look like shit. not even comparable

  • If Kimber had a 100% reputation, then there would be no 1911 market and EVERYONE would own a Kimber. You should read up on what Patrcik Sweeny did with several 1911s and you'd think twice next time you say something is shit;) Go to advancedtactical and click the RIA press and read the test Patrick did with the Charles D, RIA, Wilson and Kimber.

  • thanks, ill check out that article.

  • I've shot a kimber several times and it jammed at least once every mag but when I tried the RIA or Armscor 1911 model no jams or failure whatsoever. Both guns are not mine though my friends at american shooters own them. So, I think you are the one who haven't tried RIA. Am I right?

  • What's the poundage on RIA factory springs?

  • If I remember correctly, somewhere in the 6-7 lb range.

  • WOW, that is super light. My Kimber is a 16#

  • LOL! My bad...I knew 6 or 7 sounded off...it's about the same as your Kimber.

  • I was most likely thikning trigger pull. LOL! Goes to show how many people ask me about the weight of the recoil spring.

  • @gandb21 16 lb from the factory, just like the colts

  • My friend jut bought a RIA 1911-A2 hi-cap model. His slide stop can be released on an empty mag but my Kimber and our friends S&W 1911 wont. Do you know why that is?

  • Released as in pulling the slide back and letting it go or pressing the slide stop down?

  • The latter.

  • I just performed it on my RIA and it can be a couple things from my experience. One, the slide stop may need some breaking in. My RIA's was HARD AS HELL when i first got it, but now it takes a lot less presure. Second, would be a mag issue. The whole idea of this function is when the mag is empty the follower pushes up on the slide stop locking the slide in place. So in essence the prob may lie in those two places. Mag or slide stop. They should try switching slide stops to see what happens.

  • I dont think that is the issue as my pistol has had 1k+ rounds through it. My ss is very smooth.

  • Hmmm...interesting. I'm sure you've tried different mags as well. Have you tried to use your friend's RIA factory mag in your 1911? Try that and see what happens. To bad I don't have the pistols in front of me, I'd like to figure this out.

Most importantly, each pistol does shoot. So there's no complaining there. LOL!!!

  • I finally figured out what it is. My friend with the S&W and I both have aftermarket Wilson Combat and Shooting Star mags with PLASTIC followers. I noticed that it was possible to return to battery on a factory mag with a steel follower using the SS function. I examined the aftermarket mags and noticed a small cut in the follower. Apparently the SS was digging into the plastic follower! Now that I have forced the SS function a few times the pistol returns to battery with little effort.

  • Ahhh...so it was a mag issue. I knew it had to be one of those two things.

I do prefer the steel follower for my 1911s. Just as Mr. Browning intended them to be. Then again improvements can always be nice.

  • Very nice technique, real consistent. 5 stars!

  • Thanks! I'm still working on it. This vid was months ago and I've gotten better with recoil management.

  • i have a fetish for gun fukin in canada laws r to strict hav to giv a ton of exams jus to get the license u r lucky living in states man

  • Yeah. I read up a little on your restrictions there. Getting the license in no easy task. That's if they even let you get one.

I'm originally from California, which is trying to be just like Canada when it comes to firearms. Since I've moved to Texas, my passion for firearms has grown. I bought two AKs and the Kel-Tec SU16C within the year. LOL.

  • Well...the 1911 served the U.S. for almost 100 years. There's no doubt about that bro. And now it's coming back even stronger, cuz the 9mm Beretta is not doing the job overseas. Armscor does happen to have a hit and miss reputation, but I did some reading about the Rock Islands b4 I bought it and they were all positive. I will always love the 1911;)

  • Please post more videos, I am thinking of buying one and need more info.

  • tnx! urbantiger74 for your advice, i'm gonna buy a better gun magazines to my 1911 gun.

  • everytime a fired my armscors tactical guns, i just put 8 bullets to novak magazines, 1911 gun is not reliable gun you can not depend your life using 1911 gun i have glock 21 i fired my gun more than 400 rounds, i never encountered any problem with my glock 21, everytime i fired my glock 21 gun i just put 13 bullets to the factory magazines. but my other tactical armscor 1911 gun it work flawless. i still love 1911 gun.

  • did you encountered any jams while you firing your rock island 1911 gun? i have to armscors 1911 tactical gun 1 of my gun i had a bad experienced i put more than 300 bullets but i experienced more than 20 jams of my armscor 1911, i think the factory magazines are junk made of novak.

  • No jams bro. 200 rounds no problem. But remember some malfunctions are not always due to the pistol. Just remember, keep a strong wrist when shooting. Limp wristing is one of the most common reasons for failure to eject(stovepipe). My Novak mag worked fine. Get a Chip McCormick mag and see how it works. Anything else?

  • haha you got that right!

  • yeah i heard alot about its more sensible loading from the rows. and i never thought of it like that. just end it in 5 than 8 XD

  • Since it's one target, five rounds should end the fight. LOL. Now if I was training multiple targets, then yes, load up 9 rounds! Eight in the mag and one in the chamber:)

  • Thanks for asking BTW!

  • The 4-5 shot routine is for two things. First reason is more a OCD(obsessive complusive disorder) thing. LOL. Since ammo comes in ten rows/five bullets each row, it'just seems logical to shoot them that way. Second reason, which is most important. I know the mag holds 8 rounds, but wouldn't it be nice to finish the fight in 5 or less. So for my training purposes, I want to make my first 5 count:)

  • hello. im back again :) just wondering whats up with the 4-5 shots? do you just load 5 cuz its just a row from the ammo box or is it a range thing?
