All the shit for nought, The Velvets would have never acheived the Deca-Avant Garde intrigue without Nico. John Cale would have never produced Nico;s albums if there was nothing there. There was a recent article in Rolling Stone where Hendrix is quoted as saying, Bob Dylan sings flat, It does'nt matter listen to the words. Do you get it? No Nico was not the Singing Nun. Get a grip. It was the Dadaistic form of the time.

@icecreamtruck60mph Her vocals on All Tomorrows Parties are very fitting, much better than Lou's would have been, and that was one of the best songs from their debut. Same goes for I'll Be Your Mirror, though to a lesser extent. But mostly Nico didn't give the Velvets much because they didn't let her. They didn't appreciate her voice, didn't like the idea of a girl singer (particularly a former model), and Lou wanted to sing the songs himself.

@xXPinkGoddessXx Since your are so familiar with the history, you would know Andy pushed and prodded her into the Velvet.They never wanted her in the first place. She had a bad ear, a bad voice, boring, no character.She can't play with her voice.It's incredibly toneless.All Andy ever cared about was the aesthetics, not talent. I've her some of her solo tracks, where she was allowed room to be creative, and she still didn't bring anything to the musical table. She's better off writing her poetry

@icecreamtruck60mph We'll have to agree to disagree then, because "bad voice, boring, no character" do not describe Nico's singing to me at all (except on songs she wasn't suited to). On a technical level I can definitely concede Nico was far from a brilliant singer, but then the same applies to Lou Reed even moreso to me, and I love the songs he sang on. I've heard covers done by more vocally gifted people and they didn't do it for me, so I have no idea what it is in a voice that appeals to me.
