Foals are just a handful. Stallions are usually unruly and are hard to handle. And it would be frustrating to own a barrel horse when your discipline is hunter jumping. Just pointing out a few things.

I want a horse my mum will let me and dad but there very expensive I am very good with horses I some times I look after them like feed them and tack them up and put them in the field.
For a first horse, definitely go for a mare or gelding. Don't buy a foal, because you'll have to pay for breaking in and different bridles and saddles if you want to ride. it. Stallions can get a bit jumpy and hard to handle sometimes. If you can get a horse find somewhere were you could ride every week or something :)
can i just say that if this is your first horse i can garentee you you don`t want a stallion or a foal, a middel aged sweet gelding would probubly be best

I'm sorry, but you shouldn't get a horse just right yet. You said it coukd either be a foal, mare, gelding or stallion. Working with foals takes a long time. You won't be able to ride it for a number of years, and you have to castrate it ( if it's a colt) and do shots and have it broken etc, foals arnt a good choice. And with stallions? okay,everyone who is making these videos about trying to get your parents to buy you a horse just stop.I'm not trying to be mean but I've been in your shoes.If you show your parents your devoted, responsible,and knowledgeable enough to care for and own a horse ,then the right horse comes along and your financially able to pay for it then your more likely to get it compared to devoting your time begging to get one Trust me most of you will get a horse just be patient and stay focused on riding :)

@doogiegirl121 ...it is the upkeep, though. buying the horse is the easy part. keeping up with him is the part that breaks the bank. and if you're lucky enough to have been to the state championships, why don't you just be happy with what you have and stop thinking about what you want? alot of good riders aren't fortunate to go that far, so you're pretty lucky.

yes some are top horse stallions but i dont think she has enough experiance t train a stallion and they are a little bit more jumpidy and you dont want to see a mare around you barn especially when yur riding

I own a 20 year old arabian mix gelding and he is the biggest baby ever he sits on me he lets me ride him in the stable bareback and he would never hurt me i once almost went over his head he quickly sat down so i slid off his abck rather than landing on my head

Uhm, a word of advice, do NOT get a stallion. They are dangerous and unpredictable. They can harm even professionals, so do not buy a stallion unless you are planning on using him for breeding. I don't mean to sound insulting, but these are guidlines if you do end up buying a horse.
exactly. geldings are great for a first time buyer because mares get, well, moody. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!! oh, and arabians are very high strung. I recommend a quarter horse. I have a half arab and shes very high strung even at 24!!! I also have a quarter horse... guess which ones quieter?? good luck!!!!!
@OverTheJump There is nothing wrong with stallions they are just a different gender i no loads of nice, calm and gentle stallions there only get a little bit mad when they see mares but sometimes they don't i no someone who has a lovely little stallion and just go out riding with mare and other horses they are not dangerous! there are just another gender x

Not always. The testosterone levels in stallions are high, and should you be tending to/riding a stallion when a mare comes, ESPECIALLY if there are other stallions around, it can be extremely dangerous because their sex drive is overpowering to their brain, so a stallion is very unlikely to obey its training, no matter how much or how good their training is.

I had to comment on my post!!! So i asked for one 2 days ago and my mom and step dad didnt say yes, but they didnt say no but they didnt say maybe either my mom said she didnt want to PAY to keep my horse there. my best friend is getting horses and i keep my 4-h animals out there and im the only 1 allowed to because i really word HARD!! so she wants me to keep it out there to for FREE!!! Hahaha o maybe just maybe!! please mom and dad!!!

if i made a slideshow about wanting a horse, i would make my mom cry because she knows there is absolutely nothing i want more than a horse, but we are lucky i can take lessons once a week..........

Everyone says not to buy a stallion. But they're wrong! Stallions are actually very brave and protective of their owners. Well, most of them.

@theoandautumn Thank you, I have a stallion and everyone is scared of him because they all think that they are super mean and wild, but he is actually calmer than some of my mares. You are probley one of the first people that have said stallions are not mean. THANK YOU!

okay,everyone who is making these videos about trying to get your parents to buy you a horse just stop.I'm not trying to be mean but I've been in your shoes.If you show your parents your devoted, responsible,and knowledgeable enough to care for and own a horse ,then the right horse comes along and your financially able to pay for it then your more likely to get it compared to devoting your time begging to get one Trust me most of you will get a horse just be patient and stay focused on riding :)

ya what they said DONT GET A STALLION if u want a bot horse get a Gelding or buy a Stallkion and get it Gelded but dont leave it as a slallion!!!!!! btw if u want to jump with ur horse dont get an Arabian cuz they arent made to jump little jumps are fine but big ones arent the best so dont get an arabian if u want to jump.........btw u SHOULD get a horse

Okay... well instead of making a video on youtube your parents may not watch, why don't you make an oath at the end instead of pictures? Pictures don't mean anything; when I wanted my own dog I showed her a picture she looked at me like I was crazy. When I made an OATH... I ended up getting a kitteh... who did and still does hate me. XD

Well, when she was a kitten she was very nice and sweet, but my dad always makes the family pets mean, spoiled, and fat. Although, for her age, she is getting a lot better, cuddling with meh constantly

its hard to convince them when u live in a big city, with a huge pool covering the entire backyard, nowhere to put the horse at night, nowhere to ride the horse, so basicly its impossible for me to get a horse... D:

@bethxpoppyx i agree. i breed arabians. and a stallion is allot of work. u hav to hav them away from mares geldings and other stallions. also i no u want a arabian but for someone that breeds them they may look gorgess but they aint a horse for ppl that hasnt had past experiences with the breed before. my first horse was an arabian straight from the endurance track and every time someone rode her she thought it was a race. shes ok now but iv been training her. their not crazy just very smart

@doogiegirl121 ...it is the upkeep, though. buying the horse is the easy part. keeping up with him is the part that breaks the bank. and if you're lucky enough to have been to the state championships, why don't you just be happy with what you have and stop thinking about what you want? alot of good riders aren't fortunate to go that far, so you're pretty lucky.

yes some are top horse stallions but i dont think she has enough experiance t train a stallion and they are a little bit more jumpidy and you dont want to see a mare around you barn especially when yur riding

first thing... can u ride? do you know how to care for a horse! i had to put this vidio on silet cos it makes me cry! i want a horse more than anyone in the entire world! and i'm sure you feel the same but make sure you can ride and properly take care of one before you even attempt to buy one! i think your parents (if/ when you're ready) because i want the people who feel the same way about horses as a do do live the dream even though i'll never get the chance! :/ good luck x :)

I've been riding since I was seven, and we just cannot afford a horse. I'm going to start saving money to see if maybe I offer to pay halef for everything it'll go better. Hopefully in a year or two, I'll have my own horse. =)

i understand how u feel avout getting a horse ive been begging since i was six but my parents wouldnt buge they just took mr to horse back riding lessons but know 6 yrs later they actualy said yes and in 3 weeks ill be getting my horse :)

I think EVERYONE who wants a horse andknows how to take care of it deserves to get one! I've been BEGGING for a horse for 11 years now(which is my entire life) and still haven't gotten one. But I will be patient and wait. I'll wait till the end of time if I have to!

I own a 20 year old arabian mix gelding and he is the biggest baby ever he sits on me he lets me ride him in the stable bareback and he would never hurt me i once almost went over his head he quickly sat down so i slid off his abck rather than landing on my head

a little advice is u should probably choose a dicipline. if u dont choose 1 and just get some random horse he or she wont b as fun 2 ride. oh and if ur a novice then u mite want 2 get a little mor experience or try a lease first. Great video and i really hope u get the horse of ur dreams!

for ALL the people out there who want a horse should get an older mare or stallion, but not a young stallion...yes i want a horse to but an gentle mare or an older horse has more experience and will teach you. and i do suggest leasing a horse before buying one. but yea good video.

Uhm, a word of advice, do NOT get a stallion. They are dangerous and unpredictable. They can harm even professionals, so do not buy a stallion unless you are planning on using him for breeding. I don't mean to sound insulting, but these are guidlines if you do end up buying a horse.

exactly. geldings are great for a first time buyer because mares get, well, moody. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!! oh, and arabians are very high strung. I recommend a quarter horse. I have a half arab and shes very high strung even at 24!!! I also have a quarter horse... guess which ones quieter?? good luck!!!!!

@OverTheJump There is nothing wrong with stallions they are just a different gender i no loads of nice, calm and gentle stallions there only get a little bit mad when they see mares but sometimes they don't i no someone who has a lovely little stallion and just go out riding with mare and other horses they are not dangerous! there are just another gender x

@OverTheJump I've known stallions who are calmer than geldings. It depends on the individual horse. But, on average, stallions are more difficult.

@OverTheJump Any horse is dangerous and unpredictable, I have known many calm stallions and many VERY unpredictable mares. You cannot just assume that all or even most stallions are dangerous and so on.
Get the horse because of the temperament, Not the gender!

Not always. The testosterone levels in stallions are high, and should you be tending to/riding a stallion when a mare comes, ESPECIALLY if there are other stallions around, it can be extremely dangerous because their sex drive is overpowering to their brain, so a stallion is very unlikely to obey its training, no matter how much or how good their training is.
