@Takua38000 Chemicals do poison some rivers worldwide, but the problem here is apparently microbial infections which, by definition, are caused by germs and other biological pollutants. Can't blame DuPont for these deaths, just Mother Nature.
Dig a man a well and talk to him about Jesus and capitalism, hydrate him for 10 years. Teach a man to run a hydro station you built him, hydrate him with boiled water and access to information for a lifetime. There's a good reason ideas are symbolized as light bulbs overhead, and not holes at your feet.
@siversobe I agree with the first part of your post. But as far as the second when billions are spent on war, we have to assume that for policy makers, development projects in Africa don't compare with large military contracts in terms of desirability.
We do have the money, it's just being spent on conflict.
Any development in Africa MUST be LONG TERM. The pumps are not enough. They will break down. Long term maintenance is needed and infrastructure needs to be built up for the long haul, not just a temporary fix.
I've had extended stays in such places things are a lot harder than they look. picture if you have to walk 4hrs just to get to the water, then carry it back home. how many gallons would u lug? 2 clean, cook, bathe the kids etc. and even if they could boil, most are too poor to afford huge pots, then using firewood takes forever to prepare and cooling with no fridge, then work the farms by hand?! impractical. sooner or later you'll drink raw water. Shit... I did! most of the times you'll be fine.
Why don't the villagers boil the river water before they drink the river water do they have access to pots and pan and lighters or things to make fire to boil the river water
That was the same thing I was thinking. It's not like they have nothing metal to boil it in, they showed several metal cups that would do fine, but I'm sure they have pots too. Untreated well water will do the same thing to dumbshits who don't boil it...
Congo government has failed them. With all those natural resources, they shouldn't be walking for hours for shitty water.

Takua38000 1 year ago
@theiux05 to boil it you need to burn wood.most of them don't have indoor plumbing and gas. come on now you can't be this naive.
