Best game ever made, period. The feeling of playing it was so immense and the community everybody knew eachother was just soo good. Please comeback :(
Then they should rehost the game! Perhaps making AC2 as a subscription bonus for other games(I have a ddo account with VIP status which I rarely touch.
@firiuskwan I'd love to see this happen. Have it as a bonus for VIP status on LOTRO or DDO. I don't know how interested Warner Bros. is in the Asheron's Call franchise, though.
@firiuskwan Unfortunately, the engine Dungeons & Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online was based off the same engine for Asheron's Call 2. For that reason, Turbine doesn't want to release the server-side code.
I don't have any videos of my happy times, just fading memories, thankyou this unedited footage helps bring back happy times, heavenly. No game has ever come close to the tranquility I felt in this game. I often dream of the servers coming back, or a single player version released so I can have a taste of heaven again.
Blizzard should take note here on how to design a gameworld. Not divided into 50 small exclusive zones for each level block, but instead one big seamless world that makes it feel much more authentic.
@Shukie6174 Unless you're going into dungeons, you can walk across an entire continent in World of Warcraft. There are mutilple continents, and you need to load into each, but outside of beta you couldn't swim to a different continent in Asheron's Call 2. You had to take a portal and load in. The two games are a lot more similar than Asheron's Call and Asheron's Call 2 were. The game had a lot of bugs, memory leaks, and ran heavy on systems. That was the biggest problem.. the gameplay was fun.
@ACGuy31 You can walk across an entire continent, yes, but each zone has only a few entrances and exits. The rest of the zone is always blocked by either mountains or water. This destroys any incentive for exploration, as you'll always be following Blizzard's set path.
@Shukie6174 This is true, to some extent. I know from experience there are a couple of hidden areas a determined explorer could get to, and with the latest expansion, they now allow you to use flying mounts on all the continents. Which, is a boon for people who enjoy exploring.. That's the boat I'm in.
@Xanerithe Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for a revival or a sequel. There were a lot of wonderful assets in AC2. I'd love to see the game restored under the free-to-play model of DDO and LOTRO. I think it would do well.
AC1 destroys AC2...thats why AC1 is still alive and AC2 is not...I played AC2 when it came out and it wasn't good at all. Still play AC1 to this day and still so much fun
I bought the game when it was first release, being a big AC 1 fan. It ran like hell, the chat system was broke, and had numerous other problems. But I could see there was something good going on underneath. Sadly, I quit after the first month, and didn't get too see it turn into the great game I hear about.
@Zubirrex I would have been in the same boat, but I ended up trying the game again. I played in the beta, and there were a lot of big problems still after the retail release, as you mentioned. It's unfortunate.
Not really sure why but something about the drums of the Tumerok called to me, I felt it was point blank the coolest method of combat ever seen in a MMO. I play in Iksar Defiler in EQ2, and Shaman in EQ1... both are fun but there was just something about the drums... game had great ideas, too bad it suffered from the killer of all sub par mmo's, under subscription, resulting in underfunding... resulting in lack of develpment... and final death.
@Ammdar The biggest problem, was that AC2 had a bad launch. The game was riddled with bugs, and even after most of them were resolved, the damage had been done. I think the Tumerok drums were a very cool feature, as well as the music system and developing cities.
@Demrush It was not AC1 version two by any standard, but it was a great game and an interesting take on the setting. I don't think it handled low subscription numbers well, though. The world could seem very desolate, and the terrains very similar.
AC2 had such a great feel to it. Even though I was put off by the generic combat, the sound of being free in an unexplored post apocalyptic world overshadowed everything.
Assassin's Creed came out in late 2007, early 2008 if I remember correctly. Asheron's Call 2 came out in 2002 and the original Asheron's Call came out in 1999.
Thats debateable.. DDO is also made by Turbine and the combat is very well done in DDO... I'd say DDO has a better combat system, but I haven't played Asherons Call as much... Sure is fun tho!
The thing is, they're very different games. I enjoyed both of them for different reasons, but one thing they did have in common were interesting storylines.
So if you like pvp, AC1 is better? Why did they try to drop all their fan base by making AC2? Thats so retarded. Anyway, me, im playing darkfall online and its the best pvp mmorpg game ever.
It was much different. Breaking animation in the original Asheron's Call provided a type of twitch combat, taken to an extreme in PvP. Where as, Fallen Kings had a much more tradional form of PvP, similar to what you now see in modern MMOGs such as WoW. While much more excessible, it isn't as challenging and relies a lot more on skills and gear than the talent of the individual.
I still think they should open this game free to play with an item shop or something. The game was pretty polished at the end .. but horrible in the beginning.
I liked ac1 but it was only a sleeper hit, not hugely successful, so I always felt a sequel was a tad risky and sadly it fucked up. good memories though
Game Failed cause peoples wanted a sequal to AC, not a totally different game. If Turbine would have made this game using the same game mechanic as AC 1 it would have been a success.
If they made it into AC1 then it would have sucked... like AC1. AC2 was cool because it was DIFFERENT than AC1. AC1 is a bloated and convoluted piece of shit with bots and cheaters running rampant.
wish turbine would get their heads out of their a**'s move all the lore and quests from ac1 (a graphically pathetic game..even w/ that so called expansion)& reintroduce ac2 to the world as a completed 3D game that could hold its own vs WoW.
And why it won't happen because turbine doesn't have the balls nor the brains to see what they truly had THE BEST !@#$ GAME EVER!... rather be in AC2 than in WoW

Such a shame this game is gone. Things were solid but I think they never addressed a real problem I felt the game had and added to the reasons why it died due to lack of players.
The world was empty and they never did anything about it after people complained. It was a huge world and looked great but was completely dead. No npcs save vendors. Nothing but enemies and you could go for hours without running into another player.

Love the guild system and level system. At least they should make the server downloadable so someone can host it.........
