How do you explain the last clip of Paul Weyrich saying, as clearly as anyone can say it, that he doesn't want everyone voting? Where's the lack of fact and messed up logic in that clip?
I think the videos speak for themselves. It is the GOP that has been promoting voter fraud and suppression. Is it so hard to understand their interest in hurting the movement of ACORN? I am amazed at the lies and distortion that come out of the GOP. Republicans have no souls and will say anything to voters to stay in power. It was ACORN that pointed out the registration errors and took action to correct it. I think it is you that is in bed with the GOP's evil movement. Have you had enough yet!
They don't like the common people empowered. This year will be the year of the people who make America Obama Country.
McCain blew his load weeks ago, and nothing remains. His campaign is as impotent as he looks. This election is OVER. McCain should get cancer and die, shriveling up like an old lady's cunt.
Republicunts just can't accept that America has experienced a political reallignment. Neo-Con-ism is DEAD.
I wish it was so simple. But sadly, voter suppression is still going on, and if you think they will let Obama win you're wrong. They will do everything in their power to stop a democratic victory this year. They did this with Gore in 2000, they did it with Kerry in 2004, and they'll do it again with Obama in 2008. We need more than just an incredible turnout this year.
We know this is a fucking war, and we are drawing blood, taking no prisoners. Republicunts will not-I repeat, NOT steal this election.
We have operatives in place like never before. We will fight for every vote. Trust me on this issue. Republicunts can no longer count on us to comply with their theft, and they are all running scared all through our nation.
2008 is the year the people take back their nation. America is Obama Country!
No, it's not 2000 or 2004, but that isn't stopping resmuglicans from suppressing voters. They're already hitting ACORN hard as well as passing laws that limit the time polls can be open and limiting the places there can be polls, which will deter and prevent lower-class voters from voting due to massive lines with 5 hour waiting periods. Not to mention the millions of voters that will be rejected at the booths for "faulty registration" and then their provisional ballots will be tossed out.
I had the same concerns, and we've learned plenty in 8 years.
Sure, some of your concerns are valid; however, we have enough support and people on the ground to prevent a stolen election. If you doubt this, call up your local Dem headquarters and voice your concerns.
You'll see!
This victory will be sweet! Enjoy it, and let republicunts know. Life is too short not to enjoy the sweetness of seeing your political opponents eat shit and melt under withering ridicule.
I love your enthusiasm but I won't feel safe until the election is over and we've won. I hope you're right, I really do, but the republicans aren't going to go down easily, and we can't get cocky until we're absolutely sure that Obama is in the white house.
TheYoungTurks, so you dug up an old clip of some guy i've never even heard of and it's proof of the VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY? How about ACORN and such, care to talk about that? I guess the two sides cancel each other out! And hell, if you guys lose the election, just take it to the supreme court (or riot!). That works for you, right, Turks? If I tried hard enough, I could dig up ancient clips of racist democrats from the 60s, or something. Oh wait, i can do that now. See: Murtha. :( TryAgain~
Isn't the foundation of democracy not only the choice of who you will vote for but also the choice of weather you choose to vote or not? What if there are no candidates you feel are capable of governing, do you have to settle for a government you feel is mediocre? I don't think you should be quilted into doing it.
What do those who know McCain best really think about him? Find out why the Vietnamese nicknamed McCain "Songbird". Listen to former POW's say how John betrayed them and America so he could get preferrential treatment from the enemy while his fellow POW's were tortured. Go ahead and google Vietnam Veterans Against McCain.
Paul Weirich is right - elections really are not won by the majority. Here in Canada we just had an election and the turnout was something like 60%. The winning party had about 40% of that, so about 24%. A party won control of the country with only 24% support.
This isn't some conspiracy crap. He's just stating how it really works. I thought we all learned this in 2000 when Al Gore lost the election even though he had more votes.
Ya, you're right. Young people are just plain stupid and NEVER vote off intelligence, but only look for handouts. You're such a f'in moron. You need to get out more
Paul Weirich was talking about right wing evangelicals. It was this group that he wanted to have dominion over the populous and suppress the secularists, not poor blacks. But yeah, the republicans have adopted this strategy.
This is GODs work, word and will in ACTION! GOD wants McCain and especially Palin to win. Palin is GOD's CHOSEN ONE, GOD INCARNATE and the LIVING EMBODIMENT OF GOD HERSELF! GOD will SEE TO IT that Palin BECOMES POTUS!
yes i've seen a lot of it here. They try to equate Obama and bush/mccain in an attempt to keep liberals that are fed up with the two party system from voting.
Amazing! I also had a professor (a staunch Republican) say the same thing to our class. He argued that it is better to have the informed and intelligent few vote rather than all people. I do not share his philosophy. More people must be infrormed and voting made more convient. Let's hope that more of the American populus is inspired to get to the polls this year! Moreover, hopefully this year the Democrats will not only get the popular vote but will also be able to win the Electoral College.
That's not democratic. Democracy is CHOICE, thus if i don't like any of the candidates, I don't have to vote. We shouldn't be penalize for our rights.
*falls off chair* I'm not surprised...but to hear it come out of their mouths...I'm floored. Nice to see our democratic process a big joke to "them". "We're not going to spend any money educating them on what they need to do..." *shakes head* despicable...
(Part 1)The Republican Party started in the 1850's, formed from a split in the Democratic party, whose members, primarily abolitionists, felt the Democrats were no longer representing their interests. They decided to call themselves Republicans because they felt their ideals were very similar to Jefferson's Democratic-Republican party. After the Civil War, the upstart Republicans were perceived as the party that won the war.
(Part 2) Now firmly entrenched in the federal government, they were ironically dubbed the "Gallant Old Party," which soon became the "Grand Old Party," which was soon shortened to the familiar acronym "GOP."
well, we're seeing the dying breaths of the republican party, people (or atleast with their current ideology). And it is a vicious animal with razor sharp teeth.
Stop using voter rolls to pick juries and voter registration will go up another 25%. Republicans know this. That's why they won't let it happen. Most working people fear the possibility of losing a week's pay, two week's pay, or more, if they get selected for jury duty.
kinda like the republican fucks in NY that sent the ballots out with "Barack Osama" in the democratic block...........they said it was a simple type-o......yeah, i bet, fucking dickheads
And besides they are at least 35% of the public that dont vote anyway. Why because they are either to stupid or sick and tried of Gangster politics[Republicans and Dems]
Real change will happen when we stop voting for the 2 parties system and start looking for fresher faces
Multiple parties may be better than what we have now, but when you have more than 2 parties and a ballot split with several close candidates, a candidate with a tiny percentage of the vote can win, and this is quite problematic.
Let's say we have five parties. If the vote is close, all an individual candidate has to get to win is about 20% of the vote. That's scary, considering that many don't vote, and 25 million idiots could be all it takes to get in wacky fringe guy.
Fuck democracy its nothing more than mob rule in a sports coat. Greeks and the Romans knew the extend of the evil of democracy thats why they abandoned it for a empire.
For God sake this nation is a fucking REPUBLIC.
Can someone reach out to this fat Turkish liberal cunt to go do himself a favour and read The Republic by Plato.
what his say was the majority vote do not count the minority does that the chose not you so do you wonder why the voting percentage in the United states is 30% over europes 70% so go head and vote if obama win not nessecarly because of you if mccain wins well how stupid are you for picking the guy with 13 houses and 13 cars with a 100 million dollars
I dont really believe in democracy, as i feel the senete should still be appointed by the states, however i do believe everyone 18 and up, should be allowed to vote in the house.
I hate to say it but we've gotten to the point where Americans are to stupid to vote. 60% think Iraq was behind the World Trade Center attacks. Almost 50% are funtionally illiterate. 45% think the Noah's ark story is literaly true.
There's a reason the Greeks and Romans thought pure democracy was idiotic and patently unworkable, and that some places are literally too stupid to govern using it.
i fear your right mate.. sadly the us is now up there with 3rd world countiers for illiterate and dogma lead people! odd how a great country has gone to the dogs in just under 8 years..
What's worse is he talks specifically about suppressing the African-American electorate. This is indicative of the systemic latently racist policies of the Republican party and the national government. "We're certainly not going to spend any money educating them on what they need to do."
Election day should be a national holiday. All Americans over 18 should be required to vote. Third party candidates should be included in the debates and equal public financing and airtime should be given to all. A different social choice format should be adopted, many exist that are more reasonable than simple plurality and the ridiculous electoral college, which should be abolished. In house races, political gerrymandering should be outlawed and computers should draw unbiased districts.
No, i'm just fed up with the rape of our democracy. This isn't how it is supposed to work. We are given two candidates, with overall similar agendas, and told that we have a choice. The people of this country can do much better than this. By the way, under a new system, the republican and democratic parties can still compete, only they will have to actually live up to their promises or else they may actually lose power next election for a change.
Lack of competition breeds stagnation, and that's just logic. More than two men having a legitimate chance for the presidency every four years would be amazing for this country.
I think if there's ever going to be an 3rd party president, it will be next year. People are angry at both parties right now, let's see how long the collective memory lasts. Cross your fingers, man.
I don't think there will ever be a third party candidate even come close. They have done too well to convince voters that a vote for a third party is essentially throwing away your vote
I hope this country will actually develop into a democracy one day. People shouldn't have to worry about their votes being counted, and it shouldn't be commonplace for elected officials to have ridiculously low approval ratings.
So we know they are going to try to suppress votes. Do we have some way of stopping them? Given the history of the last two elections I'm a little worried here. Can we make sure it doesn't happen this time?
This is exactly what I'm talking about when I say that political parties screw up the election process outlined in the U.S. Constitution. Any political party could pull a Paul Weyrich if they want in the name of their ideological platform. George Washington told us not to have political parties!
Make laws with all sorts of extra requirements to vote like buying IDs, require reading and writing tests first, don't allow felons to vote, deny the vote to negroes and women, deny the vote to those who don't own property, hold voting on work days to discourage the working class, demand a payment to vote, add registration deadlines and make the process of registering as complicated as possible, limit voting places, be at the polls with dogs and shotguns, print fewer ballots, fire opposition...
Don't put all candidates on the ballot, invent stupid machines with defaults and give them to the poor, stuff the ballot box, remove ballots, give old rusted machines to the poor, purposely understaff polling places, underchange polling places, don't count all ballots, don't count absentee ballots, don't count regs-vote ballots, take ballot counts to court, harass voters at polls, close down polling places early.
And that's all the ways I can think of to suppress votes. ^__^
1. Place cops/guards at voting booths to intimidate voters.
2. Purge voters from the list of reg voters (missing middle intitials in their names-social security numbers don't match-typos...etc). Basically stop people from voting for whatever reason they can. This is a really big problem for the last several elections including this one.
3. Not having enough booths so that lines are long and people leave. This is a big issue in big cities.
I wonder about ACORN, though. It's got to be tough to be such a large voter registration org and have obvious fraud on the books. Perhaps this is inherent in that endeavor. Doesn't make it wrong, just fraught with problems. Can anyone give an example where Republican Org.s actually "get out the vote" and drive regular people to vite and register them with or without fraudulence?
People working for ACORN filled out random names on the registration cards to get paid for doing no work. One example: Tony romo registered in Ohio.
I can't think of any registration drives for the GOP, except maybe at churches, but they're required to be NONpartisan. The Republicans, at least since 2000, have been winning elections by keeping people away from the polls. VOTE EARLY.
A rep from ACORN was on CNN today making the argument that when they hear of these canvassers or representatives doing this, they turn them in and cooperate fully. She opened her doors to the CNN reporter who pretty well took her to task on the issue. It will be interesting to see what comes of that.
I saw the same thing in a Blog posted on Air America Radio's Website. they also pointed out that it's almost impossible to actually cast a fraudulent vote.
right, so essentially what you're saying is that to register a fraudulent voter is one thing (ACORN, allegedly), but to actually cast a fraudulent vote is entirely something different? Makes some sense, especially in a national election with the supposedly highest levels of standardization, etc.
Yes it is. But that's not even relevant because ACORN wasn't trying to illegally register voters in the first place. Some of the people they paid to register new voters made false voter registration cards. ACORN was aware of this and flagged the cards as fradulent before turning them in, so there would be no confusion as to their intentions.
God forbid anyone actually research this shit on their own. Easier to listen to Fox News, hm?
Republicans occassionally do registration drives, and when they do they will trash Democratic registrations or secretly change the registrations to Republican their is no immoral behavior that is beneath the (un)official sanction of the GOP
it used to not be like this, these neocons fucked up everything.. i am an actual conservative, like ron paul, and i am ashamed that these guys adopted the republican name
I dont think that everyone should vote because some vote just because they like the candidates hair or his charming personality rather then his integrity and his humanity along with his politics. But I wouldnt put in some test just so people cant vote. Its a free society people should have the option to do both, Vote or dont.

They earned it!

ACORN got ripped off by people who would rather register Mickey Mouse to vote than do any real work. Fictional voters don't vote.
Now look up Mark Jacoby and Nathan Sproul.

It's a glorious Democrat tradition, logging votes from dead people.
When you add to that the butt-ignorant 18-21 year old votes, you can even get an empty suit like Obama close to election.
All you have to do is promise them free medical care, free college & whatever else comes to mind, since there's a free money tree it grows on.

Arondeus 3 years ago
(Part 2) Now firmly entrenched in the federal government, they were ironically dubbed the "Gallant Old Party," which soon became the "Grand Old Party," which was soon shortened to the familiar acronym "GOP."

Stop using voter rolls to pick juries and voter registration will go up another 25%. Republicans know this. That's why they won't let it happen. Most working people fear the possibility of losing a week's pay, two week's pay, or more, if they get selected for jury duty.

xamarconnect 3 years ago
Multiple parties may be better than what we have now, but when you have more than 2 parties and a ballot split with several close candidates, a candidate with a tiny percentage of the vote can win, and this is quite problematic.
Let's say we have five parties. If the vote is close, all an individual candidate has to get to win is about 20% of the vote. That's scary, considering that many don't vote, and 25 million idiots could be all it takes to get in wacky fringe guy.

HungryNomadicLion 3 years ago 5

Is there a strong alternative party presence in your town?
ProserpinaFC 3 years ago
No, i'm just fed up with the rape of our democracy. This isn't how it is supposed to work. We are given two candidates, with overall similar agendas, and told that we have a choice. The people of this country can do much better than this. By the way, under a new system, the republican and democratic parties can still compete, only they will have to actually live up to their promises or else they may actually lose power next election for a change.
HungryNomadicLion 3 years ago 2
True words, man.
Lack of competition breeds stagnation, and that's just logic. More than two men having a legitimate chance for the presidency every four years would be amazing for this country.

im a littel confused about how vote supression works, anyone care to explain?
mites7 3 years ago
well they try by taking voters off the rolls
amsoho75gr 3 years ago
Make laws with all sorts of extra requirements to vote like buying IDs, require reading and writing tests first, don't allow felons to vote, deny the vote to negroes and women, deny the vote to those who don't own property, hold voting on work days to discourage the working class, demand a payment to vote, add registration deadlines and make the process of registering as complicated as possible, limit voting places, be at the polls with dogs and shotguns, print fewer ballots, fire opposition...
ProserpinaFC 3 years ago 4
Wait, moar...
ProserpinaFC 3 years ago 5
These are just a couple of examples.
brenna1975 3 years ago 4
They take voters off the rolls. They keep people away from the polls. And they accuse organizations like ACORN of Fraud.
StupidShouldHurt2001 3 years ago 4
I wonder about ACORN, though. It's got to be tough to be such a large voter registration org and have obvious fraud on the books. Perhaps this is inherent in that endeavor. Doesn't make it wrong, just fraught with problems. Can anyone give an example where Republican Org.s actually "get out the vote" and drive regular people to vite and register them with or without fraudulence?
kevagonia 3 years ago
People working for ACORN filled out random names on the registration cards to get paid for doing no work. One example: Tony romo registered in Ohio.
I can't think of any registration drives for the GOP, except maybe at churches, but they're required to be NONpartisan. The Republicans, at least since 2000, have been winning elections by keeping people away from the polls. VOTE EARLY.
StupidShouldHurt2001 3 years ago
A rep from ACORN was on CNN today making the argument that when they hear of these canvassers or representatives doing this, they turn them in and cooperate fully. She opened her doors to the CNN reporter who pretty well took her to task on the issue. It will be interesting to see what comes of that.
kevagonia 3 years ago
I saw the same thing in a Blog posted on Air America Radio's Website. they also pointed out that it's almost impossible to actually cast a fraudulent vote.
StupidShouldHurt2001 3 years ago
right, so essentially what you're saying is that to register a fraudulent voter is one thing (ACORN, allegedly), but to actually cast a fraudulent vote is entirely something different? Makes some sense, especially in a national election with the supposedly highest levels of standardization, etc.
kevagonia 3 years ago
Easier to listen to Fox News, hm?
nordeme 3 years ago 2
Republicans occassionally do registration drives, and when they do they will trash Democratic registrations or secretly change the registrations to Republican their is no immoral behavior that is beneath the (un)official sanction of the GOP
