  • You will now find an extra copy of Photoshop and a Wacom on eBay.

  • awesome!

  • God your work always keeps me thinking how it's even possible to do this sort of work. I enjoy just sitting on my computer time after time just relaxing and viewing your art work because it makes me feel like I can do this if I work hard enough. Your very talented and I just wish that other teens like myself could enjoy this type of art. I am the only kid at my school who would take the time out to just sit for hours on end and view every piece of detail on an image because it facinates me.

  • 0:32 TROLOLOLOL! but seiously though, awesome painting!!

  • it is said that cgsbgs once mocked god for taking a whole 7 days to create the universe

  • 3 hours ? I figured 3 days at least.

  • yoda looks badass here

  • Question do company's find u or do u find them? Because I wanted to do art for children's books.

  • This artwork is not speed painting, is time lapsed...

  • HOLY CRAP YOU GUYS ARE SO FULL OF SHIT . All you are doing is drawing it in Photoshop and recording it then speeding up the playback, its more than likely taking you hours if not days to draw that. Just call it drawing not speed painting. stupid noobs

  • @rowdyrhodie Yo, AssMunch, thats what speed painting is.

  • god... they are ugly XD

but still awesome effects and painting ;)

  • whats the size of this image?

must be massive with such details.

  • Thumbs up, if ur feeling like me O_o

  • Its not bad. Just more yellow on the teeth please.

  • OMG u r a freak! that's insane. Do you use "multiply" when you add the color?

Just freakin' amazing. Bless ur talents man.

  • @gargamel6699 I think color mode is best for adding color. Overlay and soft light is also an option.

  • @TemplarOfNight

    Thanks! I'm gonna try it.

  • OMG IT'S 42!!! O___o

  • you are a photoshop master

  • Congartulations!!! hey show me how to do that, I´m graphic designer (biginner) and I would like to do that, it´s amazing man. Thanks!!!

I was just wondering, how do you color the art, without loosing the details of the shading?

  • just one word: Amazing! : D

  • OMFG how did u do the BG???

  • again... amazing:D just what any new Star Wars obsessee could want:D (besides a light saber)

  • FAKE!

    just kiddin. very well done.

  • Hey you got a job for what you do!

    Awesome!

    (I wish I was you)

  • awesome-awesome-awesome!! what brush do you use to give the texture to the green-skin guy? (around 1:45)

  • impossible.........is real perfect

  • does anyone know what tool he uses to do the white lines (highlights) thanks .

  • He uses the Dodge tool set to highlights for it.

  • probably fuzzy brush tool set to overlay or lighten.

  • @RossiTheDoctorR1 probably regular soft brush set to dodge.

  • I have a small Bamboo, it's my first tablet, but its good for practice, The video is awesome by the way

  • dude do u use a graphics tablet

i am amateur and am thinking of getting wacom bamboo is that any good

  • I think he's too busy to answer on peoples comments xD

But yes, Wacom Bamboo is good, i've only heard good things about it. I had a Wacom tablet once, not bamboo but it surely was great.

The Bamboo series is probably one of the most sold Wacom model.

  • how about genius

  • Well, i've never really heard of it. But if it's from Wacom, then it's probably good =)

Search around the web, find reviews and such. Ask some artists, i'm not like an expert that knows a lot of Tablets. Actually i don't know much about tablets.

  • The bamboo is OK. The Intuos Tablets are much better. The bamboo may prove to be good enough, it just depends on how serious you want to be with it.

  • @markag6 ive got bamboo and its great. An artist doesn't need much to create art, a few stones and a wall would suffice

  • hey with your amazing talent i think it would be awsome if you did one of halo or something like that.

  • I cant even imagine any of your artwork being bad! My best art is probly trivial to your worst! I really enjoy this picture, you should do more of fantasy and comic characters

  • Excellent work, this is one of my favorites, of what I've seen so far. Happy new decade!

  • This is absolutly amazing. Your art inspires me to keep practicing so maybe someday i can be as good as you! This cover is awesome, have done any other comicbook covers?

  • Thanks! This one is one of about 5 (I think) that was done recently. You can go to Dark Horse's website and do a search, and the the results of what has so far been released will show up. As far as other comic work-- there is some... But I really don't want lay claim to it... ;-) (it was bad.)

  • What size pallette do you start out with?

Ill be getting my first graphic tablet soon, so I look forward to having better control over my artwork.

  • Great stuff. do you know if theres any tutorial material for drawing in photoshop?

  • Thanks for the upload :)

Did you make the intro as well?

  • yes

  • Very nice :)

  • does anyone know how he changes from a b/w drawing to suddenly there's a base color that he builds on?

  • @rjt808 overlay brush mode

  • Thanks Dz

  • painting in layer in Color blending mode, this way you keep the dark/light infomration and only paint with hue/colour

  • is that the same as "overlay"? I didn't see "color blending" as a mode...i'm using PS7. thanks busquets

  • "Color" is one of the blending modes (overlay is another one). You will want to use color if you are using the same method of coloring a gray scale image that is used in this video. The oldest Photoshop I've used is CS. Chances are, if you have overlay in 7, than you also have color.

  • Chris, will you adopt me and teach me your ways?

  • :O

question: im thinking of getting a wacom bamboo tablet... would i be able to things like these? (provided i have the artistic ability,) or is there anything i should know before buying it?

  • I have an Intuos3, but the Bamboo line seems to have similar features--2500+lpi resolution, 1025 levels of sensitivity... But for the money you might as well get a 12x10 VisTablet (slighty less lpi) but amazon has 'em right now for just over $100.

  • dude, fucking incredible, YET again.

  • becrazed!

  • awesome!!

  • Wow it's fantastic!! 5/5

  • nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnice... o.O!

  • sweet jesus mother of god thats insane!!!!!

  • dude u r the best, do u get paid for this cuz its fuckin amazin

  • Freaking awesome man.. excellent work!

  • congrats on another fine piece

  • I'm starting a new religon and your my god

  • cult?

  • Insane? =S

  • nailed it

  • Wow, i love you'r earlier works with Dragons and Dinosaurs, really good painting! But how long time do you usually use on one drawing?

  • Espectacular como siempre, me alegra q dejaras los dragones y hombreslobo :D por un tiempo. Yo le hubiese dado algo mas de reflejos morados a la ropa mas cercana al sable, por poner algun fallo. Saludos!!

  • awesome work as usual, but why are you speeding up the videos so much now? i liked how i could see details of what you were doing before with the longer videos. i also noticed that you did NOT start with an eye this time as is your (apparent) usual practice. still the same great results, tho! keep up the great work

  • Your work is AMAZING, I love watching these.

    Thank you for them!

  • pfffft...i could do better in my sleep...

  • Dam thats hot Chris! So youre a freelance artist still right?

  • thanks. and, yep. freelance.

  • im just like 0_O How do you do this its so GOOD my drawings are nothing compared with you're. Mine aren't as good would you mind checking my drawings? thanks!

  • I feel like drawing now O_O

  • dude, awesome 5/5

  • Might I ask, how much of the image is already visualised in your head as you start painting? Do you work from a draft, premeditate it, or just start scribbling with no initial plans? It all fits together so perfectly to my eyes, it's amazing.

  • Most of my original art that you see on here is just random spontaneous art, made up as I go along. (The portraits are obviously not). But with paintings like this one (that are actual assignments by a client) there is art direction given, and multiple sketches prepared before one is chosen by the client.

  • its like someone else created a composition, sketch for this painting and than you paint?

  • no... A verbal description is given, and then I come up with sketches based on that desc. Altho- in most advertising jobs, quite often it is started with a rough thumb by the AD.

  • *gasp*

  • if i could draw like that i would never be bored

  • @dannyboiii19 Dude if I could draw like that I'd never be bored and I'd be so FuKn rich I could wipe my ass with 100 dollar bills!

  • OH MY GOD. This is your best work IMO! This is amazing!

  • You are my IDOL!!! :))

  • Excellent!! Never realized photoshop was so versatile, better read a book on it.

Are comic books done mostly on the digital format noways?

  • How did you learn to do this stuff? we're you taught it? or taught yourself? its very impressive 5/5

  • Wow Chris, you make it look so easy! You rock! You're my inspiration, and the reason why I keep doing sketches non stop!!! Keep the videos coming!

  • how long did it take ??

  • Fantastic piece of art. Brilliant, as always

  • Simply incredible....5/5 as always :)

  • by the way ...

are you a freelancer Chris ?

and what do you think is better being a freelancer or working for a company ?

  • Hey, there. Yes, I am a freelancer. The answer to your question I think varies from artist to artist. For me personally- freelance is better. I don't believe that I can do better pay-wise with any company compared to what I can make as a freelancer. But you also have to be fast and resourceful to be able to compete with the security of employment by a company.

  • beautiful work Chris !!! beautiful :)

and congratulations for getting to paint the cover of the comic book issue

    ...

    if i can ask a question ...

whenever i tried using the starting with grayscale technique i always end up having areas that stay gray even after i paint over them with the brush set to color

which requires me to paint over them with a regular brush

what is it that i do wrong = \ ?

  • You should send me a .psd file (sized down for email) so I can see. (my email is on my site). I'll check it out for you.

  • oh! great job!

    love the horse too x)

  • Awesome as always

  • looks better than original TBH.. wat u guys think?

  • What do you mean? (what's "TBH") ?

  • never mind lol it means to be honest.. anyways keep up the good work.

  • ooohhh. ;-)

  • Yeah what the hell is TBH?

Anyways, this is great work Chris, I am inspired to go out into the world and do good as a result of watching this video!

  • TBH stands for "to be honest" :)

  • he means To Be Honest i think

  • WOW

  • I just LOVE all of your work, but there are a few questions I want to ask you:

    1) What are the usual sizes of your drawings, when doing it on the computer? (pixels)

    2) If you've finished the black/white picture, and you are gonna colour it, what kind of brush mode do u use? (Like overlay, multiply etc)

Thanks in advance, and 5 stars!

  • 1.) typically in the range of 8" x 10" @ 300 dpi

2.) Brush set to "color" mode

  • Way to go Chris. Easily my favorite of your works. And no dragons! :D

  • Dragons are okay. People think I love em. The truth is, I love science fiction and fantasy. Dragons are my "no brainer" art. It takes absolutely no planning or drawn-out thought process to make those paintings. So when I have a time limit and I want to paint something FAST, (something I want people to find commonality in enjoying) dragons are usually the quick answer. Thanks for your kind words. ;-)

  • haha my 'no brainer's is giger's alien ^^

  • omfg...i juss saw the making of an actual "Star Wars: Legacy" cover.....*passes out*...

  • Wow!

  • amazing im your fan to!!!

  • It hypnotizes me. :| You are amazing~

  • I'm Your Fan =]~

  • damn nice

  • ohhhhhhhh myyy god!!! you really make the star wars the front page of star wars comics!?

Im really going to faint :|

  • Looks awesome! Love the dark horse opening animation.

  • Awesome as usual.

    Keep that amazing art coming.

    5/5

  • danm this guy is the best

  • i love the black n white brushes in the 1st place and it shows how easy that u applied those colors layer and details after that. it seems easy enough but i still cant get it right lol :D

thanks for sharing ur skills n artwork :D

  • Your talent never ceases to amaze me. I am a technical person and can build mechanical assemblies in my head before I model them in CAD, but I cannot draw anything on paper. I suppose I could learn some of the technical aspects of drawing, but I will never be an artist like yourself. It's the artistic creativity combined with your amazing technical skill of creating lifelike pictures that I appreciate and find so impressive.

  • i need to show this to my geography teacher, he's star wars freak lol

  • im epicly jealous

  • excellent work! :)

  • I was waiting for you to do something like this

  • Brilliant sir, just brilliant.

  • Incredible! Your artwork simply is amazing, great job

  • you are a Master !

    Awesome !

  • a master piece, well done.

  • Amazing work, thanks. I learn a lot from your videos. Do you need a good tablet to do what you do?

  • Awesome!

  • i love your art u should draw a wolf XD

  • He has wolves, just check out his videos!

  • F A N T A S T I C ! !

  • Darkhore found you, or you was searching for them? :)

  • Darkhorse*, sorry n_n

  • @francosj12 ... I first did covers for Dark Horse back in the mid nineties. (2 Godzilla covers, and 1 Aliens cover) Not too long after that, I went through some personal tragedies which forced me into a complete shift in industry work resulting in my landing in advertising/commercial art for the last decade. Only recently have I been invited to return to genre work via a handful of Dark Horse covers (thanks to Randy Stradley via Facebook) ;-)

  • I wish I had an ounce of your talent.

Where did you learn your craft?

  • Do you always have a complete plan in your mind before you paint? And about the logo at the start, is it made from 2d layers in 3d camera movement or something different. looks awesome

  • Great work, it looked fantastic at 1.33 yet you made it even more awesome :D

  • Your work is so beautiful.

I love the contrasting cool blues and greens on the front one's face and the warm golds and oranges on the other side.

    Beautiful.

  • Holy crap dude......wow...

  • wow, i love good cover art!!!

  • amazing

  • ace work :)

  • ..appeal strongly...!!

  • Did you really do the cover for this!?

  • @KINGJADEX ...yes.

  • Oh. my. god. You are crazy good!!!

Wow I can't think of any words that could match up to that, its amazing!

    :D

    Faved and rated ***** STARS

  • :0 nothing to say but epic

  • dude im scared, it looks soo really
