  • Tagalog is our national language and we can speak english too. While 'filipino' is the term for the people living in the philippines. i think it should be Tagalog for dummies. :)) lito much sir ?

  • It's confusing. Some Filipino says it's Tagalog, some says it's Filipino. Really, what's the official language of the Philippines? What's it's called?

  • @Cameronpoe1015 Filipino is a modified version of Tagalog where it was derived. Tagalog is a dialect while Filipino is the name of the national language. I might do another version about this topic when I am not busy :D

  • This video are cool.

FILIPINO is a mixed of Spanish and Indonesian Language.

  • ok to those idiots who are confused about what language filipinos speak here's your answer filipino is not a language it's a nationality asking a filipino if he/she speaks filipino is like asking a mexican if you speak mexican.

  • we filipinos are also using spanish words for some reason. some of us are using the numerical term of spanish words for money.

  • the guy playing the guitar did a great job :D

  • @ronchmalls90

Calling the language 'Filipino' is merely a political move intended to simplify and araldite the identity of the nation's primary language for the benefit of outsiders. It helps non Philippine people to relate to the nation's primary language.

Your argument is like saying, Australians don't speak English, they speak Australian.

  • well EVEN I AM PURE SPANISH I can speak Bisaya,,,, well I can pronounce correctly not like americuns who sound like gays when spoke to tagalog

  • @BREBOYDE good

  • it's tagalog language. not filipino.

  • The Philippines has about 120-175 native languages--I only know 2. But, it's really heart-warming to see pure Americans trying to learn our language. It's really sad that most Fil-Ams don't know how to speak, let alone understand, any Filipino dialect. Really, really sad.=(

  • @Lalaine8U Can you blame them? Thats kinda what happens when your born and raised in a country that isn't your background, FYI.

  • @shorty235z You don't need to give me the "FYI" because I'm not a freakin' moron. Sheesh! Ambi nimu kung kinsa kung makasturya. =/

  • we filipinos really love to teach other nationalities how to speak in filipino (tagalog)!LOL

i remember teaching my friends in west virginia the nastiest of filipino words and the craziest ones...the only filipino words that my ex fiance knew was butiki (lizard -- coz it sounds funny and am hella scared of it), gagamba (spider -- coz it sounds funny and he's scared of em) and tito/tita (uncle/aunt -- to greet my parents when he talks to them) and we were together quite long!LOL

  • @TheSarahgeronimofan its funny because the one girl is trying to speak it, and the other who appears to be pinay is laughing at her mispronounciation. and to the previous comments about being racist, how can you say that? its just plain simple fun. Im American, and i laugh at myself when trying to pronounce tagalog words. Salamat (thank you)

  • I had a friend over and I made her watch this and recite the words in the subtitle area. Very amusing...even to her.

  • WTF THE GUY WHO WAS IN THE BEGINNING OF THIS VIDEO IS SO STUPID HE SAID TAALIK IS TAGALOG U MUTHER FUCKER

  • this video is dumb

and this is so freakin racist

  • and why are these girls laughing? Are you two insulting our language? Why laugh for no reason?and to those who are confused,Tagalog/Filipino are the same.read this:"In 1987, the Republic of the Philippines adopted the term Filipino

to refer to their National Language.

Prior to that, the term Tagalog was used. Changing the name of Language was to help encourage unity among all the varied ethnic groups distributed through out the Philippines."

  • Filipinos has 2 language tagalog which is used by most filipinos and kapangpangan which is used by some filipino

  • kamukha mo si kuya Dan Azarcon from Baguio :))

  • This was your funniest video yet! XD As far as the comments; however, @jolynn0111 I agree. I do not think those girls were laughing at the language or Filipinos. They were probably just laughing at themselves. That's what I do when I try to speak it. Why do you think they're laughing at it? I hope you guys are just trolls. So much hate! Makes me sad :(

  • this is pretty good. your pretty funny. maayo kaayo

  • what is so funny? i don't see how tagalog is that funny..this is insulting..man i wanna hit those girls..sori to be racist but geez..u foreigners can't pronounce it right..huh

  • fuck those gurlL puta !!

  • That's the corrupt term. Actually Filipino is the nationality and the language.

  • filipino is the language and tagalog is the dialect. thats the way it goes.. remember you elementary and highschool days. pilipino = tao , filipino = salita/ lengwahe

  • @climax2983 They don't use Pilipino anymore, Filipino is used for both the language (wika) and people (tao)

  • @climax2983 tagalog is a language...the philippines has many languages..we need to be proud of it...because even we were colonized...filipinos speak their languages still...

  • @climax2983 are you filipino?have you migrated?if you have.in official papers the language is called tagalog its just not to confuse the language with citizenship.

  • @climax2983 Tagalog is not a dialect, it is a language that has evolved into what is Filipino now. A dialect is a variant of the same language. What does that mean? That means that Bisaya, Tagalog, etc should be the same language but be of different dialects & that means that if I speak Bisaya to a Tagalog, the Tagalog would be able to understand me & communicate with me in Tagalog. Basically, dialects are accents & slangs that differentiate it to another but it's teh same language.

  • @nenabunena I will hae to disagree w/ u. as far as history is concerned, tagalog was just established as the national language during the last 50 yrs or so and b4 this tagalog was previously known as PILIPINO.

tagalog btw is a dialect that has origins from hindi and malay tounge

  • @sweetg03 Excuse me? Where do you think the term Filpino or Pilipino comes from, it derived from Las Islas Filipinas, the archipelago was named after King Philip of Spain. So no way would our LANGUAGE be called Pilipino 1st, & then Tagalog, it simiply is not logical nor factual. The people of the Philippines had their own various languages, languages that are Austronesian (Malay) based, influenced by Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, you name it. The paniards did not give us our language,

  • Cont... they merely influenced it like all others, like English influences our various languages right now. The Philippines has more than 100 languages, almost 200, they are not dialects. The rule to differentiating the 2: is with dialects, you still understand each other, languages you don't. So while English is a Germanic based language, since a German speaking & an English speaking person won't understand each other when they converse, it's 2 languages. British English, American English,

  • Cont...2 & Australian English are the same language but different dialects on the other hand, do you understand? Bahasa Indonesia is a language, Tagalog/Filipino is another language, Ilokano is another language - gets? The people of the Philippines prior to Spain was made up of tribes & oligarchy societies. Tagalog culture was Oligarchy, it had it's own language called 'Tagalog'. Later to unify the nation, Tagalog was used as the medium for a national language & was then called Pilipino.

  • cont..3 This was in the 30s, by the 50s there were expressed concerns over it's usage & so a plan was made to change the face of Tagalog Pilipino into Filipino by 1987. But it changed by limiting Classical/traditional Tagalog words & adopting other native Filipino words from other languages unto it, & by adopting English as well. So Tagalog is clearly changing in the Filipino context. Have you heard of English 100 years ago compared to today? You wouldn't understand English 100 years ago bec

  • cont...4 it is so different. It changed because of the French Normandy & Latin influences, the pronunciation also changed it dramatically which you can still see evident by it's spelling. Filipino is going the same route, it is hardly the same as Classical/Traditional Tagalog anymore. Gets mo na?

  • @nenabunena I meant English has changed from 1000 years ago, not 100. Clearly you can understand English just a century ago but not a centennial ago.

  • @climax2983

    Incorrect answer.

There is no such language as Filipino. There are however two major languages. Taglog and Cebuano, both of which have numerous dialects.

  • @pianoplayeruk Filipino is the Official Language of the Philippines with English language.... Regional languages are use as auxiliary languages as declared in the 1987 CONSTITUTION....

  • @ronchmalls90

Dont argue with me Mr and complicate a simple theme.

    Fact:

The so-called official language which you refer to to as 'Filipino' is Taglog

  • @ronchmalls90

One thing I cant stand are people who indulge intellectual masturbation. Your answer doesn't actually even give a clue as to the answer.

    PAY ATTENTION!!

The official language of the Philippine islands already has a name and it's called TAGLOG!

  • @pianoplayeruk

pardon me for intervening but i really have to say this...our official language is not 'tagalog'. There are actually two official languages that are both under the prestige title/register FILIPINO.

    Filipino-- has two official languages:

    a. Tagalog- the national language.

    b. English- as one of the two official languages spoken in the Philippines.

...so it's actually Filipino, the term for our official language--source:wikipedia...thanks po have a good one..:)

  • @sierra05sierra

The official native language may be known as 'Filipino', but that description doesn't even start to answer the question:

    But what language is it?

    The answer:

    Taglog.

The reason why your government choose to name the national language 'Filipino' was to appease the majority of Filipino people who dont speak Tagalog, and who were irritated at the fact that it was chosen to represent the nation, even though it's spoken by less than 18% of the population.

  • @sierra05sierra

So, the term 'Filipino' to describe your native language was done purely for political reasons. It has no origin in language, has no relationship whatsoever to any language modern or ancient, and is simply a convenient word for some people, mostly foreigners.

Have a good one too ..:)

  • @ronchmalls90 the OFFICIAL LANGUAGE IS TAGLOG!!! PAY ATTENTION!! SEARCH IT TOO!!

  • i'm Filipino and I find it flattering if they try to learn Tagalog or imitiate it... it's all just good fun!

  • oy pare can u translate putang ina mo??? lol joke lang hahahaha mganda tong gnagwa mo. natututo ang mga iba jan

  • i do agree its tagalog not filipino in my personal reference last time i checked Filipino was a course taught in the educational system but then again no matter if i search it up its always going to remain tagalog in my eyes but then again...tagalog or filipino which they changed is not the main base language where i'm located at the moment but speaking waray waray dialect instead which i know MORE of and emphasizes the R's a whole lot so learning filipino is quite difficult

  • LOL Tagalog para sa mga tanga

  • please... FILIPINO is the official language and tagalog is just a dialect... we're confused because the words are often similar.. but tagalog has quite a different accent.. i know this because i'm from nueva ecija and we use tagalog..

  • the accent at 0:48 is the shittest ive ever heard.... good thing naa koy cebuano mga amigo sa akong trabaho!! pero, lisod kaayo ni, kay cant find ko good rescources...so, unsa imo ikatudlo nako sa binisya enestoryahan??

  • bravo") mabuhay mga pinoy!!!!!

  • hehe!! they're good in speaking tagalog!

  • its TAGALOG TAGALOG TA-GA-LOG not FILIPINO!

  • MALAKI ANG T_T_ ko hahahahahaha nice one hahahahahhaa

  • first bit i learned.

  • its not filipino its Taglog and the fact there there are many Different Dialects throughout the Philippines.

  • Ahhhh, this comment is a classic from Filipinos who were raised in the US and never went to a school in the Philippines nor spent a long time here in the country. I'll make a video soon clearing this up. Our national language is called Filipino not Tagalog. Please search it up before commenting. Thanks :)

  • @gx3k In 1937, Tagalog was selected as the basis of the national language of the Philippines by the National Language Institute. They changed the name to Filipino.

  • Yes, therefore Tagalog is not the name our national language anymore but Filipino. The language is based on tagalog but loads of new words has been added making it not just Tagalog but a whole new language called Filipino.

  • @gx3k yea, mom wont teach me though ):, she says i am too tanga and bastos.

  • @cartmanrulez32 LOL I didn't know that

  • @gx3k i know but i am used to calling it Tagalog :P, but i find it offensive when White people try to imitate our accents. Whilst when I do it for being Filipino American, its funny, but when white people do it I dont find it, what do you think?

  • I see what you mean, some guys imitate us to 'mock' us specially if you're a Filipino in a foreign country but if a foreigner does that here in the Philippines, our initial reaction is laugh if they get it wrong or impressed if they get it correctly. It's a matter of why they imitate us and its different for everyone. I just enjoy their efforts be cause I'm proud of being a FIlipino speaking Filipino. :D

  • Wtf, it's called Tagalog not Filipino

  • @LongaNyssa No need to swear, he is singing in both Tagalog & Filipino. Filipino is merely a political term & really to differentiate classical Tagalog from modern Tagalog. So relax.

  • @LongaNyssa Tagalog is a language,Filipino is our nationality...please Dont be so dumb

  • @LongaNyssa Not since they changed it, it aint.

  • Thanks so much for sharing and I love the way you combined all the videos from different bloggers, very creative, and interesting, and hilarious!!! post some more, I hope you can also do one for those wanting to speak Spanish or Korean.

  • don't be so mean on those girls...they were just having fun, natatawa din naman tayong mga pilipino pag nagta-try tayong mag-ingles dba! It doesn't mean we dislike americans...

BTW, is that erik chua?! the guy who allegedly exposed the hayden kho-katrina halili scandal??

  • I totally agree with u liagibaonidnugal, I hope some Filipinos, refrain from cussing, because one of our good traits as Filipinos is respect for diversity, and ofcourse humility di ba?

a very common expression aside from haaay naku..

  • wow people need to chill on the two girls. 1 only ONE is white. 2. i'm mostly filipino and i still laugh when i try to speak it. and ever think about it this way? cuz hell i sound stupid when i speak it

  • Those fucking white girls are laughing at my lanuguae u fucking cunt shits fuck u dumb shit faced girls suck my dick I bet ur dicks bigger than mine u fucking dick heads

Filipino is the National Language. KABAYAN, or KABABAYAN. OK

  • FIlipino is the name of the race AND the official language. IEOA is right. Just to add a bit more, Filipino is the modern language mixed with the different dialects. Tagalog is the dialect that has not melded with dialects such as Bisaya or Hiligaynon, or whatever.

  • i know UTOT, KULANGUT and IPIIIIS :D and my tita always screams: AY PUSA!!!!! PUUUSAAAAA!!!!! (cats scare the sh*t out of her ^^ )

  • I get lots of comments like this from ignorant Filipinos (mostly from the US) who have no idea what' s going on here in the Philippines. It was declared years ago that the official name for our language and our race is Filipino. Its a subject in our school which I have been studying for more than 10 years. We also have extensive Philippine culture and history subjects so we DO know our stuff more than you. Do some research and stop acting as if you know everything.

  • ouch...i know gx3k i live here in the us in las vegas and around my about 10 filipino friends i use filipino for language and race unless they speak a specific type of filipino language so the terminology of these two dont really matter here :)

  • I know terminologies doesn't really matter and I made this series not to be academically correct but to be generally helpful and fun. It just bothers me that lots of people give me comments like the one above. :(

  • Filipino and Tagalog are both languages spoken in the Philippines. Filipino is the OFFICIAL language (along with English) of the Philippines. Tagalog is a dialect mostly spoken in Manila/Luzon. Filipino is the NATIONAL LANGUAGE. Tagalog was chosen as the basis for Filipino because Manila is the political/economic capital.

Filipino can ALSO refer to the citizens/people of the Philippines.

    One could say "I'm English/French/Filipino."

  • what is LIBAG?

im a filipino but not really good in tagalog, but im good in ilokano..

  • Libag is the accumulated dirt on the skin mixed with sweat that it looks soiled. YUCK!

  • libag is a dirt in your skin

  • lmao! it's also annoying listening to americans trying to speak tagalog.

    =) very bad.

  • WoW THank you for this song you can talk tagalog already...!!! Now study my language kapampangan..!!!

  • what is nakaka inis?? my mom yells this when i'm bugging her....hope its nothing bad xD

  • Nakakainis means annoyed.

It's other variant is "buwisit", and it's harsher than "nakakainis".

  • KOREK!

  • that mean annoying.. so when she says.. nakakainis.. she means.. its annoying! or ur annoying! LOL

  • common error in pronouncing "Mga"

    "Mga" is pronounce as "ma-nga"

  • i meant 2:56

  • true! love it when they don't know the meaning.. and the guitar guy is pretty good!

  • wow.. jec kumusta naman ka? your doing a good job.. na.a gihapon ka karon diri sa bogo?

  • ...and 7:40! HAHAHA!

  • I can't stop cracking up to 3:00 - 3:15.

  • As reichnamjel was saying, Filipino(the language), is mixed up of several dialects. Therefore Filipino IS a language. Several, several years ago the Philippine government decided that they should have an official language since they didn't have one. They couldn't make up their minds and that's why it's "Filipino" and not Tagalog, Bisaya, Cebuano, Ilocano, or etc. Rather just a mix of.

  • gx3k, I really like your videos keep them coming, I would love to learn your language and Cebuano. Can you recommend any good books or dvds..thank you

  • Just a comment. We can actually say "Tagalog for Dummies" or "Tagalog para sa mga Tanga" instead of "Filipino for Dummies". This is just my own Opinion: In school we do have a subject called "Filipino". This is because we are studying our culture itself as a "Filipino". A human being born in the Philippines, who's father and mother are pinoy, grew up around pinoys. This video is about learning a language. That is, "Tagalog".

I grew up in Manila so I use tagalog. good video though.
