1: Power To Believe 2: Construkction of Light 3:Thrak 4: Red 5: three Of A Perfect Pair 6:In The Court of the Crimson King 7:Discipline 8:Lark's Tongue 9:Beat 10.Islands 11:Starless and Bible Black 12:Lizard 13: In the Wake Poop. It's funny how two Crim-heads can completely disagree.
I wouldn't even attempt to rank them. In my mind, I divide KC into four phases, based on their studio albums, and even that is an oversimplification. My four divisions are:
KC 1 - 1969-1971:
Court, Wake, Lizard, Islands
KC 2 - 1973-1974:
Larks', Starless, Red
KC 3 - 1981-1984:
Discipline, Beat, Perfect Pair
KC 4 - 1995-2003 (so far):
Thrak, ConstruKction, Power
I like something about all of them. I just find them too diverse to rank. THE BEST is the one I want to hear right now!
@grevejp44 Heart beat is so cheesy!! Neal and Jack and me is fantastic though. ConstruKtion of light the SONG is awesome, but I was pretty dissapointed by the song as a whole.
@darkalleyheroes i disagree with heart beat being cheesy cause the backwards guitar in it is awesome. i also like how construktion has two guitars going back and forth.
I think Islands is one of the most underrated albums ever. King Crimson has always been my favorite band but the songs that haunt me years later are some on Islands. They stay with you.
@hippygarden Couldn't agree with you anymore man. A very underrated album, very dark and very emotional.
With all respect to others, I think you should open your ears and listen to this album, I'm getting fed up with people dissing The Islands album. There's much more to In the Court of The Crimson King and Red.
The thing I love about this band is how diverse they are and how much their music evolves. And because of that, if you ask 20 different people what their favorite (or top favorite) King Crimson albums are, you'll get 10-20 different answers.
@aidange2 I love how heavy and dark it is, but its also a really well written album and I just love how it goes. And The jazzy and funky rhythm section just make all the songs flow real well and sound so cool. I really just love the album the whole idea and sound of it, it was a great time for the band.Red followes a real close 2nd.
Nice ranking :). Here's mine Lizard (very underrated album) Red (the song Starless alone makes it worth) In The Court Of The Crimson King (a classic) In The Wake Of Poseidon Starless and Bible Black (The Night Watch is one of my fav' KC songs) Larks' Tongues In Aspic Discipline (Love Thela Hun Ginjeet) Islands Three Of A Perfect Pair Beat THRAK The Power To Believe (I prefer the Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With EP) ConstruKction Of Light

@darkalleyheroes beat isn't bad but i tend to only listen to heart beat and neil and jack and me.
i still think the guitar part for the constukction of light and prozack blues is awesome.

@grevejp44 Well, we're talking about KC here. You could take their worst song and it would still be tremendously over most people's heads.

@grevejp44 Owait. I just listened to Beat, and it turns out I was thinking of Two Hands. Blech.

i don't know why people don't like construction of light and power to believe, they are fucking epic!

@grevejp44 I know! I think it may be a bit too heavy for for the fans of the old stuff though.

Interesting that you rate "Lizard" as better than ("their first album") ... "In the Court of the Crimson King"

Interesting. I would have ranked The Power to Believe higher, but to each his own. My favorite is Larks as well, though.

what makes Lark's your favorite?

Live albums, favourite to least favourite:
1. The Great Deceiver (the best thing they've done including lots of improvisations)
2. The Night Watch (better versions of the songs from The Great Deceiver)
3. The Collectable King Crimson Volume.1 (an interesting version of Trio is presented here)
4. Ladies of the Road (just get it for disc 1)
5. Epitaph (an all round brilliant album even though songs are repeated)
6. THRaKaTTaK
7. Heavy ConstruKction
8. Level Five........................
