It's so hard to find big enough water buffalo horn in Hungary, but I saw a Hungarian grey cattle horn in your room. Is that good enough for such a "C" shaped bow?
Another question: What do you put to the join of the horns (in the midle of the horn)? There is about 3-4mm space for strain. Thank you!
I have always been fascinated by Turkish Archery. Here in America we shoot like the English, with three fingers and the arrow on the left side for a right hand shooter. Could you post some details of thr thumb ring? Also what kind of velocities do you get? I get aroung 210 feet per second out of my 55 pound recurve. Also do you guys ever hunt big game with these things?
@finehuck One of the famous and best Turkish Bowmaker Adam Karpowicz is Canadian and live in Canada. And believe us, more than harder to find in Turkey. Just want it. Regards.
This bow is also assembled by stretching two ends in a convex shape the otherway around to obtain the strongest shot to go through armours. That is how Ottomans still used this bow until the beginning of 1800's. They were right though ; as the number of arrows launched per sec was still faster than fire arms :)) as fire arms required reloading until a certain period .

I see you claim to be a cardiovascular surgeon. Do you treat your operating instruments and patients the way you do your measuring instruments? I serioulsy hope not. As for keeping my ideas in my skull, I was taught to respect tools, not abuse them. I suggest you learn some of that respect.

In turkish tradition old masters used tendons of castrated bulls . But novadays we dont find animals like these. Thats why we use tendons of cows . No problem.
These vids are very usefull to me, as i am starting on the journey tom making my own bow. ^_^ Another question: From what animal does the horn comme from? I have horns from buffalo and impala that i picked up while hiking through the game park, but there is not enough "flex" on the horn it is VERY dense nd hard. Thanks
Yes we should bend the wood to inner surface. Shaping is same for all bows. Sinews are made from tendons. And all tendons are very strongt material. So ıf ıt has enough lenght you can use.
