My Japanese teacher made some of this for me one day and I always wanted to know how to make more after that. I'm glad I came across this! It's simple to make and a great light snack.
@RainbowSkelanimal Your best bet is caster sugar, which is the really fine sugar (like powdered sugar) used in most Japanese recipes. Powdered sugar should work. Good luck!
Just made this and it came out amazing! My mistake was to put more than 1 tbsp oil (I thought it couldn't possibly be enough). Also, because I had no kurogoma I garnished with cinnamon and fresh-grated nutmeg!
Thank you Francis, Chef, and Production Team for this awesome, easy, and beautiful recipe.
I tried and it's nice!!! Tips: Do not cook too long or else it will get too soft. Cool it before eating or else you gonna get 3 degree sweet potato tongue burn! O ya, separate them while cooling, they tend to stick together. Good luck everyone!
I have tried this recipe, and it was delicious. It was really easy to make. I have many Japanese cooking books bit I prefer Cooking with dog way better because I like your recipes more. Thanks for that and keep going on.
Mmmm I just made this successfully and it was great. I can't tell just what kind of sugar they used so since my try with white sugar failed miserably, I tried it with brown sugar. My mom used to make brown sugar carrots and it seemed very similar. It was absolutely delicious and the soy sauce gave it a great salty flavor to go with the sweet.
I cooked it and its SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tasty! i will stop running to the supermarket to buy unhealthy sweets and ice cream and stuff! this is a healthy tasty sweet snack for any time of the day, very easy and quick to fix! i love it! only mistake i made was to use granulated sugar instead of powdery one, so it caramelised in the pan and my potatoes ended up all sticky! but live and learn they say, no?after all, it was still delicious! :D Doumo arigato gosaimasuuu :D
man, when she started cracking up in the end, i couldn't help but crack up with her. im guessing its the dog or something but just watching that part got me laughing to the bank. she's a good host!
I never thought to steam AND fry at the same time. Thought that would just be a caustic mess.
