You always use 6 balloons per section. If you try it with less, you will not be able to do it.

Is there any where in these videos where you show how the balloons are attached to the paper clips (and the size of the clips) (you said something about making sure the balloons are all the way to the bottom of the clips- one of the first videos posted) and how the clips are attached to the string?

I created this design in 1986, using the exact same technique that you see here.

Those who assumed that there was nothing to it, decided to use bases with poles, sticks and pipes. All wrong!

Using poles and bases will cause the center of the body to stretch open and you cannot use a section of all six of the rainbow colors. At best you can use four colors.

A balloon clown with a post and base will look clumpy and sloppy.

I think it's an idea that is followed only because the way to do them without a stick is not known. Short answer. Use no sticks.

@luzemily thanks but i tryied to do it with no stick and they just bend i do it with 4 clusters do you think that is the problem?
