  • very nice psichological analysis on a ruler who changed the history of Europe. The most interesting reflection that I can make is on how a man could repress his truly natural passions for art literature and music and canalize those talents into the priorites of politics and military duties that were required from him

  • Prussia was alpha as fuck.

  • Has anyone noticed the irony of this documentary? Although it attempts to rehabilitate the historical figure of Frederick the Great by presenting evidence intended to discredit both the National Socialist and Communist portrayals, the documentary nonetheless commits itself to a depiction of Frederick the Great intended to appeal to the conscious and unconscious prejudices of audiences that presumably lives in liberal democrac societies. Religious tolerance? Maybe more like cementing empire.

  • What is the song at the start of the documentary?

  • Uploader, thank you thank you thank you.... Never mind sleeping, I'll watch this doc right here and now.

  • @Feanorielle You're most welcome, Fean

  • Just a question, the garrison church in Potsdam, isn't it being rebuilt? And if so when will it be completed?

  • @EliasCalabretta1 When everything goes as planed they'll start this year with the rebuilding of the Church. They want(!) to finish the Church at least in 2017 (as well as some other "Rebuildung-Projects" in Potsdam).

  • @theodyssey12 Im also interested in the Theme playing in the beginning if you find out what it is please let me know

  • @fortkatana4u it's George Frederic Handel , Sarabande

  • Finally something on Prussia! I was getting tired of watching the same thing on the same countries over and over again! Great job! Where do you get these documentaries?! <3

  • @TinaEck I have a collection of BBCs, Tina. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the English storyteller but this one is an exception.

  • Quand je suis là, je suis sans soucis.

  • Thanks for posting this. Clark's book is one of the best general histories i've read.

  • @Fidosim You're most welcome, Fido!

  • Because they were all sandwhiched in between those 4 powers. Some of the kingdoms were just 1 or 2 towns. Brandenburg was the largest of the bunch.

  • I'm not sure if this is worth watching. Drawing brandenburg in the sand was useless. How can it neighbour 'litterally hundreds' of german provinces and also 4 countries. I had to go to wiki to see an actual map of the borders at the time

  • it is just unacceptable that if he did not love or had intimacy with a woman that he was forced to marry, critics believe that he was gay...... HE WAS NOT!

  • Very poorly done research.

  • After Napoleon's victory of the Fourth Coalition in 1807, he visited Frederick's tomb in Potsdam and remarked to his officers, "Gentlemen, if this man (Frederick) were still alive I would not be here"

  • Couldn't fucking resist making it about the war could you? Sick of this shit.

  • One of the greatest Europeans in human history.

Frederick ranks with Churchill and De Gaulle.

  • no blue like the prussian blue : )

  • Germany get out of the EU and form prussia again lol

  • Frederick the Great, if he was able to trascend time, would probably have asked Hitler to take down the paintings. Hitler was not a military genius(as is proven by countless military errors) where as Frederick was. One was a great man, another was a fanatic piece of shit. If Hitler was attempting to compare himself with Frederick (perhaps he wasn't) then I find that terribly insulting.

  • @Salvus967 Hitler was a pathetic man, a failed military leader but a fantastic politician.

  • Comment removed

  • @theodyssey12 Odyssey, could you re-post your comment. I'm unsure how or why it was removed. Beers, Tommy

  • whats the song playing at the beginning of the documentary?

  • Thanks so much for posting this documentary!

  • Leave it to an Austrian to ruin Germany's image.

  • Much appreciation for uploading this. I was in Berlin just last December. I have a profound respect for that city. It was amazing to see the heritage pass down from Frederick The Great. It's a shame that his legacy is, in some small part, inter-twined with another (and much darker) past of German history.

  • i have an essay due about frederick the great and this surely helps alot

  • @TheOscar401 Nice if you would share it with us, Oscar - the salient points at least.

  • Sound...............

  • Thanks for posting. Loved it.

  • @Mavs22690 You're most welcome, Mavs

  • I really hope one day Germany takes back Prussia.

  • @SteinUndStahl666 You should blame herr Adolf.

  • @Pidipaka

He just tried to take back what the Allies stole.

  • @SteinUndStahl666 They may, Stein - but under a different pretext. The thing about empires is that they rent real-estate then deliver up when tenure expires.

  • @SteinUndStahl666 I don't a war of that kind would literally tear Europe to shreds yet again.

  • @SteinUndStahl666 I hope one day Prussia will get back Germany

  • @SteinUndStahl666 It will be done.

  • Prussia was a Beautiful country

  • @ComicalWarProduction It was - but revisionists have made a good job not telling us.
