  • I have to be honest the Namm demos of the minibrute are better, this guy is so boring he could not sell the Playboy Villa inklusive all the girls that live there ;)

The guy in the Namm2012 by SoundsAndGear video knows how to represent a product. He should have done this video

  • Wow... After watching this several times, i gotta say i feel more informed...Thanks Arturia for listing this video. Kind of disappointing that their not up front about it having no presets, they should be as this thing offers more than enough to make up for it IMHO. This was much more useful than the weak commercial with the lame hipster guy running around.lol

  • WOW, ITS NOT LIKE THE JP-8000 HAD A MULTI-SAW WAVEFORM IN 1997 OR ANYTHING

    HOW INNOVATIVE!

Fantastic synth, but cut the horrid false advertising.

  • @ttoxique Learn your shit dufus, First off, your stupid JP-8000 was VA, early VA at that, the DSP synthesis was pretty weak overall from a synthesis perspective by todays standards, ANALOG SS on the other hand is unheard of. Second; the Steiner-Parker Filter was from the amazingly legendary Synthecon, and it is one of the very few Filter systems out there that doesn't lower in volume at high resonance, please know your shit before you start bitching genius....

  • @MrJonnybexar I never complained about the filter; I don't see how that is relevant, considering how I did indeed say 'fantastic synth'.

I dislike the portrayal of a multi-saw oscillator as being something very innovative and new. Rather than act like they invented the oscillator, they could at the very least explain how it is one of (not the) first multi-saw *analogue* oscillators, rather than implying that they invented the osc-type.

  • @ttoxique Yeah, yeah...sure. But, what you really should have noticed is that it doesn't appear to have any storage capabilities, which is pretty big flaw. You comment was still incorrect, and the oscillator mixer is pretty damn innovative, along with the Multi-saw...In otherwords, it was a dumb thing to knock IMO.

  • @MrJonnybexar I'm not knocking it- I'm knocking Arturia's lame advertisement tactics.

  • Wish you could tune the wave forms seperately, that would have been real kick ass I like big detune sounds. Im still new to the wonderfull world of synths, can I time-sync my monotribe with one of the Minibrutes cv outs? Will probably sell my R3 to get this baby.

  • P.S - Sounds stupid but I like the fact that this guy has a Tap Tempo, so simple but most synths dont have it.

  • @coyote7620 Ithink you can sync your monotribe to the minibrute. The monotribe has a standard 5V cv sync in/out that works even with vintage gear, such as the Roland Juno 6 apeggiators tempo synch.Afaik the mini brute is designed to work equally well vith vinage synths as well as with modern MIDI / USB equipment.

  • @coyote7620 I wouldn't sell your R3 just yet. Make sure this meets your needs. Unless you play ONLY lead sounds in a band, this isn't going to fulfill you as much as the R3. As the others said you should have no CV issues. The detuning shouldn't matter as far as detune goes (because of the osc edit options), but it will matter if you planned on playing 5ths leads etc. With what your saying, either have both, or try the Minibrute for a good while first IMO.

  • So it only has one oscillator? Two would have been great, or at least tuning options on the different wave shapes. Maybe I'm missing something? Regardless, I'll probably wait till they release a pro version of this, more keys and polyphony would be amazing.

  • @vaughn14151 have you ever used a one oscillator moog? this is similar in that they've put a lot of options in it so that you basically "hear" more than one oscillator.

  • Beautifull!!!, compare this to the new Roland"Jupiter" 80 and Ghaia(suppose to be the succesor to the SH-101)haha! what a joke, how far Roland have fallen, and now Arturia makes one synth, that sounds as good as Rolands synths they made in the 70's and 80's, when will these compaies learn that everyone wants analog back, i mean listen to this!!, ITS FREAKIN WONDERFULL!! and i need one! :)

  • @Rarezkar Check out the Prophet 08, full analog signal path, 8 voice polyphony and can produce Oberhiem as well as classic Prophet sounds. You may want one of those too! It's a beaut!

  • @astrophonix Thanks for that info astrophonix, will indeed look into that.

  • @Rarezkar The Jupiter 80 is just a rainbow colored rehash of the V synth, but the GAIA is pretty useful imho. Considering that it is an entry level synth it produces quite a bit of tone that comes close to the jp 8000 or even analogue classics like the Juno 6. Admittedly it is not easy to emulate a Juno 6 on a GAIA but it can be done.

But I think its ironic that Arturia -of all manufacturers- now issues an affordable analogue hardware synth.

  • @dudewhosaysarrh Yes very ironic, seems teh software guys are more serious about sound than making more money, why cant Roland do teh same?

  • This video also contains high freq tones that I'd like to hear at higher than 480p quality. Please re-upload with higher resolution?

  • this looks great. i would not compare it to other synths. especially fm synths. its an analog synth. & a the features to size ratio is pretty amazing. im looking forward to reviewing one in real life though.. gotta get the real feel of it... you guys should send one over to the school @DubSpot in NYC. check out the blog here.

  • These people dont know what great bass is. My DX7 MK2 will eat this for breakfast aswell as doing killer drum sounds, pads and a whole lot more. For less that this overhyped rubbish. They cant even get a proper electro funk bass going here. Until I hear one of these dedicated bass synths do a bass like Chaka khans I feel you. Which I havent I am not going to be impressed. When I start dropping my demos on youtube people will realize the MK2 DX7 plays second fiddle to no other synth.

  • It sounds good but it has2 big problems. Some very important parameters like midi-channel, legato on or off, lfo-trigger mode, velocity , aftertouch, Note priority and many more can be changed only via software from a Computer and 25 keys are not enough. So i'm not interested but I hope someday Arthuria would release a better professional version.

  • I LOVE IT !

  • voice mix too loud compared to the synth. i know everyone wants to hype the features but let us here it.

  • Considering this as my first analog synth. If anyone has other options in a similar price range with everything controlled by knobs (hate using MIDI to control this stuff), message me and let me know. Otherwise I'll likely take this plunge.

  • @kfrncs

    Mopho Keyboard DSI

    Tetra DSI

    Minitaur Moog

    Slim Phatty Moog

    Pulse 2 Waldorf

The best is to check all those synths on your own.

  • The real electronic musical instruments : analog synths !

Their come back is a great news (DSI, MFB and now Arturia).

  • @Theotim92 Don't forget Buchla's on it's way back

  • @jondon24 Yeah but the buchla's are so expensive.

  • I would like to see Arturia build a 61 key hardware version of the JP8V.

  • @synthartist69, it's called the Origin Keyboard!

  • This is really, really cool. A hopefull new direction :)

  • @jazzfunkat The oscillators are VCOs...

And DCOs are just as analog - they just don't go out of tune.

  • @heavymaskinen So do these go out of tune? I ordered one and I hope it comes with basic instructions for analog stuff (tuning, mainetenance etc.) because this is my first "real" analog synth (not counting the monotron), and I really have no clue how to do all that stuff.

  • @heavymaskinen nope, if you know how dco's work, dco are actualy samplers, the have a small ROM memory were the wave is saved, and every wave in the dco is repeatly the same;)(sow 1 saw, pulse, tri etc etc) will repeat thats why it doesnt go out of tune quickly. analog is offcourse not tuned digitally but it also doesnt have a memory, it generates Pure voltages and the waves will for example change by different tempratures, also, because it is controled by voltaged high vol=pitch up low pitch down

  • @ZwamTek

D00D! You're talking about NCO (numerically controlled oscillator), not DCO. Both, VCO (Moogs) & DCO (Juno 60, Poly 61) are based on a capacitor charging. When the capacitor charge reaches a certain level, it must be discharged by a reset pulse from a pulse generator. This produces an analog, sawtooth waveform. In VCO, as a pulse generator we have a comparator based on an operational amplifier. In DCO we have a microprocessor or precise counter (Intel 8253 in Juno 60).

  • sounds just as awful as mopho with those fucking dco's... analog... yeah right. price is good for such synth, but its digital.

  • @jazzfunkcat So the Elka Synthex is a digital synth? There are *so* many great DCO analogs that you're going to miss out on with that attitude.

  • BEWARE SWEETWATER PREORDERS ON THIS SYNTH. The Arturia rep told me Sweetwater lied by saying they will take limited preorders for a late Feb shipment. But Arturia said eveyrone in North America and Europe are getting April shipment - no earlier. Sweetwater is also saying the price $499 is on sale - but that's the regular retail street price for large retailers. Last time I shop at Sweetwater.

  • @dexfx69 Sweetwater straight up told me It won't ship until April.

  • very nice it is going to be a great year for analog

  • Nice. I can't wait to buy it.

And I hope to buy a PolyBrute next year ;)

    PolyBrute sould have a patch storage & 49 / 61 keys.

  • Hey yeah this video would be great if not for the terrible engineer who recorded your voice over...blech

  • What is the synths body made of? it looks all plastic. The great thing about vintage stuff is that it was solid.

  • @nu0music only the cheeks are plastic, the synth's casing is made from aluminium.

  • @dudewhosaysarrh I'm ready to see some wooden cheek mods already. That'll be my first purchase after I get one.

  • Here's what's great about this: apart from being a great synth, it's the (near) perfect controller: if there's anything you wish it had, go to the pawn shop and drop a hundred bucks on any old rack synth. It's the compatability with such a wide array of equipment (VST, MIDI, CV) that makes it so interesting: it's a bridge between softsynths, modulars, homebrew and hardware synths, and that's amazing. As someone with a room full of gear I'm really looking forward to this as a core controller.

  • @medroxyprogesterone Does it have some sort of automapping to other soft stuff?

  • My only criticism is that the arpeggiator could've done with a digital tempo display and/or sync to an external midi clock.

  • analogue is really making a comeback, yum

  • @dirtboxdivas It's never gone away! Certainly not in my studio or any I frequent.

  • Looks so good for a keyboard noob like me! SO, with the audio input, could you process with the minibrute any signal?, for example, a sampled guitar or bass directly onto it?

  • p.s. that ultra saw is awfully weak.

  • Useless for me without extra oscs ...i might go for the minitaur or (slightly weaker sounding) mopho

  • SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

  • Awesome sound but patch storage solved a huge problem for analog synths back in the day, and without it is like going back to the stone ages, I guess arturia expects us to use recall sheets!! This is a huge mistake guys.

  • In my opinion this is a GREAT synth.

My only regret it's the lack of a second vco.

    There is a PWM anyway...

I have one prediction : in 15 years only analog synth in our studios...

and all virtual-analogs sold for few bucks.

    Real analog for ever!

  • No patch storage and very very small keyboard. I wish Artura would of charged more and given us a more useful synth. For me (a working musician) the Mopho keyboard version is the better competitor for stage work. This synth reminds me of the Roland SH-101. You had to "patch from scratch" every time you played it so it was not very useful on stage. I will give it a try but these days I like patch storage because I do no have the time to search for that sound I had last week.

  • Not being able to store patches isn't "unique" or "interesting" - it's plain stupid.

  • @beatz04 Not "stupid" if you learn how to to build your own sounds, and the MiniBrute is the perfect tool for that. No hidden things, what you do is what you get.

  • @beatz04 I agree, I wish Arturia would of charged more and given us patch storage. It makes all the difference in a synth.

  • LOL at the fight that's going on in the comments, it's a synth man. Try learning a thing or 2 from "Jexus/Syntezatory", a synth that's unusable to one is useful to another! Also I lol'ed at the "the synths that don't sound so good" remark in this vid.... seriously?! That's a matter of opinion. I prefer the Waldorf Q (yeah it's digital, so what!) coz its' sound gels with me, plus it's laden with soooooo much control :D

  • this is what roland should have done instead of their roland jupiter 80 digital bs!

but: since a lot of companys are now releasing REAL analog synths even roland might come up with one. really interesting times for gearheads....

  • I'm sold! I've been looking for something reasonable yet booyah enough for my first analog synth. this meets that.

  • interesting...no patch storage

  • @deeroks1 Thats the most exciting feature of it IMHO.

  • @hooligram yeah its like u have to take a pic of your settings if u want recall. unique. when i said "interesting" i really meant intriguing(not sure of spelling).

  • "New functionality that you're gonna find in ours, that you're not gonna find in other synthesizers, is our ultra saw. You can take your single sawtooth waveform, and thicken it up so it sounds like six sawtooth waveforms"...

LOL. Wow! What an original idea? I suppose Sytrus, Dune, et al, couldn't already do that then. Why doesn't he just lie a bit more and say that no other synthesizer can do ANYTHING that this Stylophone can?

  • "So that you can process the other synths, that don't sound so good, through our filter"...

    LOL!

Yes, of course, they "don't sound so good". What synths is he talking about? Omnisphere? Sylenth? Any of the other VSTs out there? The Minibrute is a piece of crap, so is all the new analogue shite they are bringing out, for all the 'must jump on the bandwagon, then defend my own stupidity' idiots out there...

I haven't heard ONE sound out of this thing that actually sounds good.

  • @packoftwenty you need to calm down and stop hating.

  • @dexfx69 "hating" ?

Oh, you mean DISAGREEING. You should try learning English better. The word 'hating' doesn't mean 'disagreeing', even though your Jewish masters have taught you that for your entire life... which means you're an idiot.

The new analogue synths are shite, a joke, a waste of money, as is Diva, the sounds they produce are nothing special, there is a reason that digitial synths took off and massively outsold analogue synths...

But carry on wanking off to it.

  • Does this mean we can expect a full feature BRUTE at some point in the future I wonder?

  • I don't know if this synth is 100% analog.

I have the suspect that tha VCO's , LFO's and the envelopes are generated by a DSP.

Maybe only the FILTER and the VCA are analog.

In the same story of the DSI mopho...

    Anyway, the sound is great!

  • @drbenway nope, google: yves usson arturia. Oscillator in Mopho is a DCO.

  • @fleskebille yes,I'm reading now

"No DCO (Digital Controlled Oscilator) is used in MiniBrute, but only pure VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator)"

So nothing new under the sun.

Strange that Arturia, the leader company in analog emulation, did this .

It's because "pure analog" sounds better? :-)

  • @drbenway No, it's because there are a lot of idiots who will buy ANYTHING if they're told it's 'new' or 'cutting edge' nowadays. Why would anybody buy this piece of crap? Even IF (big if) there is an audible difference between an analogue synth and a VST, NOBODY is going to HEAR it, nor CARE about it, in a MIX.

Too many idiots buying new equipment, thinking it will magically write good songs for them, it's pathetic.

  • @packoftwenty Here is a guy that has never touched a voltage controlled synththesizer before. By this logic, or lack thereof, everyone should throw away everything but Kontakt, because in the end no one will be able to tell the difference anyway, right? Why do people spend millions of dollars on violins when the student rentals are basically the same thing? Idiots, right? You are confusing features for sound and emotion. It's a bit sad.

  • @sawwaveanalog How very convincing...

Violin technology hasn't improved since the days of Stradivarius... and you know it.

The MiniBrute is a pile of shite, and all the idiots who buy it deserve it! What a joke! I can just imagine you all sitting there after playing with it for a few minutes, and thinking "This sounds shit. Still, I've spent £500 on it, I'd better not make myself LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT, so I'll just go on and on about how 'analogue' it sounds"...

    LOL.

  • @drbenway Arturia designs and builds virtual synths ("V" classics), hybrid synds ("Analog" series), hardware synth (Origin masterpiece), and now goes analog with the MiniBrute. Various tools & technologies for various users & uses. Isn't that good, after all?

  • @drbenway the lfo and arpeggiator has digital components as it has to sync to midi. the rest is analog, including the vco, vcf etc.

  • Comment removed

  • MOTHER OF GOD

  • So many synthgasms.

  • no presets?

  • @h2ophilter *facepalm*

  • @h2ophilter it's vco based, hard to get preset functionality with that. but vco is a little smoother and more vintage sounding than dco.

  • I too am attracted to this, and I just got an Arp Odyssey Mk1. I cant wait to try it thats for sure

  • cool, looks amazing, sounds amazing,I love synths you can just "tweak" to get a great sound, without having to enter values into some interface - love it - modern but very accessable, I WANT ONE !!

  • Want

  • Wow. Blown away. You guys totally nailed it.

  • so attracted to this, but i *JUST* got an SH101, hmmmm....?

  • Really want it

  • I'm very curious how they did the supersaw on a 1 oscillator all analog synth. Some kind of chorus effect with detuning? Maybe some kind clever use of Hardsyncing and/or signal multiplication? The synth looks awesome btw, I rea

  • @kiDchemical

It's only a kind of "chorus". For a real supersaw you need 5 or moore vco's detuned.

A polifonic synth in unison mode can do this, for example the korg polysix.

Here you have only one saw vco mixed with 3 copies of himself plenty out of phase.

  • Very impressed by the features and the price, yet I need to hear more demos.

  • I think I'm trading in reason 6 for this. : )

  • Hey don't be afraid to turn those knobs all the way up for us :P come on now

  • Pretty nice.

  • If you want us to best hear the tones on the Minibrute you should upload something better than 480p

  • @qwe1231 the resolution of the video has no impact on the audio quality.

  • YES!!! ANALOG POWER!!!!

  • did I read $600US??!!

  • @compagotv..IT'S ACTUALLY $500US AT SWEETWATER..

  • Comment removed

  • @dexfx69..O.K.THAT MAYBE TRUE..BUT I'M NOT HOLDING THAT AGAINST THEM..THEY ARE THE BEST..$499 IS $499..THE FEBRUARY/APRIL THING IS MORE UPSETTING..BUT STILL..SHIPMENT DATES ALMOST NEVER HOLD UP BE IT MANUFACTURER OR RETAIL..THANX 4 THE HEADS UP THO..

  • did I read $600US??!!

  • Arturia! Congratulations! You did everything possible right on this synth! I want one!

  • I WILL OWN THIS.

  • I was holding out for the Moog Minitaur, but this little bastard eclipses everything. I'll sell all my synths to get my hands on this one. No wait, I won't have to!

  • @Dovinia must have both mini's and call it together MiniBrutAtaur

  • @Dovinia Oh, it's just SOOO 'analogue'!!!

Aren't I brilliant, because I'm pretending to be able to hear something 'amazing' about a piece of shit synth that costs a ridiculous £500 and sounds little better than a Stylophone?

Aren't I just so 'trendy' and 'cutting edge', pretending to hear something that isn't there...

In what way is this piece of shit better than Synth1, for example, which is a FREE VST?

  • @packoftwenty Watch your language kid.

  • Beautiful! Love it! Love it!

  • @c2mojo Don't you mean Waldorf? (Blofeld is one of their synths)

  • @s1Mii Yes you are right

  • synthwise, namm 12 has already beaten the pants of last year. and it's only just begun! I want this synth already :)

  • Comment removed

  • Oh! I only just found this video but it's already been online for a whole day!

An excellent tour! I'm so pleased that Arturia are entering the world of true analog. I've been waiting for someone to release a new, affordable, knob-encrusted analog synth that would meet my performance needs. I was expecting it to be Korg, I would never have expected it from you guys!

    Thank you!

  • @weaponEX Korg released that analog toy a while back, but don't hold your breath for them, roland, or yamaha to get back into the analog realm. those corporations are in it for the money, not for the passion of creating something analog and f*cking awesome.

  • @dexfx69 But Korg are half way there already! Serious, I don't understand the point of the Monotribe? "Hey guys - I've got an idea for a synth. It'll sound quite good but best make it unplayable."

The MiniBrute, Minitaur and Waldorf Pulse 2 ought to be enough to send a message to those Japanese hacks.

  • Arturia vous m'étonnez. Vous vous mettez enfin au vrais synthés analogiques. Et rien que pour ça je vous tire mon chapeau. Et chapeau au papa Yves Yusinth. Enfin un instrument français!!!

  • You had me at "Steiner Parker Synthacon Filter"!! I'm a bit gobsmacked at the moment...damn it's a sexy feature set on this. Good job, guys!

  • Comment removed

  • double-WOW! ...ok, it looks like I really have to come up with enough cash for this after all -.-'

erm... anyone what's to buy a spare V-Collection + Analog Lab (download only, no dongle) ? :D

  • I can't wait to mod one..

  • Big ups for layout and design. Perfectly chosen controls. Filter with character. It could have bigger keyboard. And it's not that expensive. Good job guys!

  • AFTERTOUCH.

    Thankyou Arturia.

You have a sale. (In fact, I'd wager, you will get THOUSANDS.)

Oh, and if it wasn't obvious already, this thing sounds fantastic and is healthy competition for the Mopho and Minitaur. Viva La Analogue Revolution 2012!

  • :p félicitation a Arturia et en particulier a Yves :)

  • It's 499 Euros. Very excited to see this! Congrats, guys!

  • What's the MSRP?

  • Excellent! This is very exciting indeed... can't wait to try one out!

  • This is very surprising. Pretty excited about this.

  • specs and build look realy good...eager to see/hear more demo's concentrating on the sound creation capabilities of it.
