They are not scientists, they are hackers. But they understand the physics just the same. I wouldn't call it science directly, but I would call it programming, disassembly, reverse engineering, etc. The Sonic Physics Guide explains how Sonic walks around on bumpy terrain, and probably how it applies to terrain that is also hovering around.
@tkwtube01 Ah, I think I get it now. You must not have heard "Miracles" by Insane Clown Posse. It's basically a big joke; there's a part where they say "F***in' magnets; how do they work? And I don't wanna talk to a scientist, y'all mother f***ers lyin' and gettin' me pissed." And it is mocked severely on the internet.
So yeah, our comments here were just ICP meme comments. But thanks for the serious answer though, learning something is always nice even if I was just joking at first. :)
In The Casino Night zone, enter the debug and select the slot machine. Place it right over Tails, then move away and get out of the cheat, Tails will suddenly die (rolled into a ball)a nd the slot machine will spin. Then Tails will drop down and follow Sonic without moving his feet.
the Magnet Tails thing can happen without codes. the reverse gravity was introduced in Sonic 3 I believe. Oh and I think I saw a beta for Super Tails a long time ago in Sonic 2. after entering all the codes just start playing it and make Sonic go Super Sonic and then make a box. hit the box and then Sonic gives Tails his Super power. it really just looks like Tails with invincibility though.
Yes; yes; and there is such a code for Sonic 2, but they must have kept the idea because they used it in S3&K for Super Tails (with glowing fur and Flickies too).
This glitch occurs very easily almost every time I play Casino Night on Genesis. Just bounce around a lot and go in tubes, and Tails could be stuck in a ball, or be dragged along the ground, without moving his legs, a certain distance away from Sonic. When I was 8 I named it "Magnetized Tails."
I can't prove it, but I have a hunch the glitch has been removed from the PC game "Sega Smash Pack 2". I used to play Sonic 2 on that instead of Mega Collection, and I never had that problem in Casino Night. The games are all emulated on that collection as well.
yeah, you can do it without debug on Oil Ocean. Basically, break one of those blocks that act like those things in midair there... and have tails jump on it. Once you reach the end, he will sldie around.
The effect does exist in 2-player mode, but it's also included in Debug for some reason.
Here's something really weird: Sonic 1 has boxes you can place too, but like all the other games (except Sonic CD) you can only place one type. In Sonic 3&K you can place a super/hyper monitor, which doesn't exist in Sonic 1. In Sonic 2 it switches the places of the characters, which doesn't exist in Sonic 1. Of all the things they could have put in Debug, the box is BLANK in Sonic 1! Nothing happens!
The first glitch is where SEGA got the idea for Knuckles Chaotix

I have had the first glitch happen to me without any cheats on the casino level in sonic 2(I forgot what it was called)
vwchevyrock 3 months ago
That would be Casino Night Zone.

@tkwtube01 thanks I forgot

Well, that's why the reverse gravity switch exists, but it isn't used anywhere else.

Friggin' mobius magnets, how do they work?
8timmy1111 1 year ago 2
I think Sonic Retro could answer that question better than I could. It's in their Sonic Physics Guide section.
tkwtube01 1 year ago
Unless it's just a lodestone. Obvious answer is obvious.

@tkwtube01 I dunno, are they scientists over there at Sonic Retro? I hope not, scientists are always lyin' and gettin' me pissed.

No, I've never heard that song.

Cool.
There's another way you can do that.
Have Level Select and Debug Mode on.
In The Casino Night zone, enter the debug and select the slot machine. Place it right over Tails, then move away and get out of the cheat, Tails will suddenly die (rolled into a ball)a nd the slot machine will spin. Then Tails will drop down and follow Sonic without moving his feet.

2:45 now thats what i call a rare earth magnet.....
MrBlihcatfacepwned 1 year ago
What are you talking about? I'm pretty sure that joke doesn't work unless there's music from Rare Earth in the background.
tkwtube01 1 year ago
@tkwtube01 a rare earth magnet is a real object, not just music. Go to a hardware store and look for one. youll know what im talkin about.
MrBlihcatfacepwned 1 year ago
I understand that, but I thought you were joking about it.

This was a pretty cool looking glitch. That effect at 0:59 was really cool. It was also funny to watch Tails move without walking.
