While it is not unlawful to turn you down due to bad credit, so long as credit is aspect needed to conduct your employment position. However, it should be noted it is UNLAWFULL to discrimine against an employee due to filing bankruptcy. There is case law that says this practice is illegal.
The point you missed to mention was the fact that so many good people have bad credit now. I think that laws should be made - sort of like an amnesty period - to not hold those people responsible for what was a crappy time in the economy.
when i applied for my last job, i read in the fine print that they would run my credit report. i asked about it and they said it was standard procedure. i refused to allow them to do that - by crossing it off and then signing the application. anyways, i did not get the job. but i do not know the reason why. can't say if it was for not allowing them to run my credit or not.
People need to remember, when they vote, issues such as these. I think it is repulsive that employers could look at credit reports. That's like an invasion of privacy. And I am sure the bankruptcy rate has sky rocketed in the past few years even with the tougher laws.
this could explain why i have been having the hardest time getting a job. i mean my unemployment expired and i have been willing to take anything at this point and can't even land a waitressing job. if they are running my credit report, that might explain it. damn it! Not fair!
I knew that the bankruptcy laws had changed but didn't think to put that together with the hard times we are having. And you are right about employers running credit reports. WTF do they need that information for?

I agree with you. Employers have no business running anybody's credit. It has not relavence to the applicant's hireability.

My sister had to file for bankruptcy and she had to jump thru a lot of hoops. Even had to take a money managing course. It's really pathetic.

Hello,Xavier.
I think opposing the results of a credit check, as a prerequisite to employment, as a great cause for the Occupy movement to make noise about.
