Me and a friend were staying in the same tent, on an air bed. I woke up to the screams of my friend, with the ceiling of the tent about 5 inches from my face. We had to swim out haha.
every fucking year eavis will give it loads about how much money they spend on draining for the site, and every fucking year this happens, thats how it feels
However the tent jsut below us under the strain of the water that was now knee height, the tent was buckling under the strain and was a complete mess. We had to check wherever there were people inside as we hadn't seen the owners all morning. When they returned after it calmed down all of their belongings were completly wrecked.
Other campers came to our aid by putting our bags in their tents and one family even baby sat my 1 year old sister at the time while we unpegged and moved everything out of the water. We were lucky, the only thing that got wet were the clothes we wore that morning when we resucued ourselves.
The orginal creek and the new river formed to make one great mass of water running down the hill. The joining was where our tent was.
When we woke up that morning it felt as though we were camped on a water bed. Once we realised the situation we were in we had to get up quickly and noticied that we were not the only ones in danger of having all their clothes etc wrecked.
I was there that year. As i was with family we were camped in the family field.
We camped close the a fenced off creek.
When the rain came the creek burst its banks directly where our tent was camped. Not only that but the rain from the top of the hill had formed its own new creek/river and was running down towards our tents.
I was there...thankfully i was on a hill so we only got drips coming through he top of the tent!! I felt so sorry for the people who turned up on the friday wanting to pitch up!!
I took some still photos of people diving down to get cans of beer they left in their tents I dont think they knew the toilets were over . I camped on the top of the hill as im a old glasto hand , best festival in the country i will be there again this year
We were right in the middle of this. We remember the lightning early in the morning and it started to pour down. A "river" formed, coming down the bank so we went to have a look and by the time we got back the tent was gently filling.
My girlfriend had put everything in the ruckascakcs and had tidied them onto the air beds, everything was floating so we put our bags on and legged it. Very nasty situation. Laugh when we look back, though.
That was funny I didn't feel sorry for them, shouldn't have been so lazy and stayed at the bottom of the hill instead walking to the top of the hill (which isn't much effort considering what usually happens when it rains there).
To anyone who pitched up on wednesday it was touching on 30 degrees and the brook at the bottom was merely babbling at the time! Besides, didnt the river come tear arsing down the hill taking out everything in its way? err yes it did I think!
Jeez. Now I realise how I had blocked this incident out of my mind and was seeing things through rose tinted glasses! We were just up from there and only just missed being washed away by the sudden river that filled that part of Pennards Hill!
Pah! Reading/Leeds is commercial sponsership rubbish. It's just band stages and nothing else. I would rather see a band at their own gig. Cos glasto has the bands, then it also has dozens and dozens of other amazing tents for totally random underground acts, performance art, totally new music you never heard of before. Loads of random stuff, and you can wander around all night, unlike reading/leeds.
naw no one drowned, some guy died of a drug overdose though. after the floods there were scuba divers going into flooded tents to make sure no bodies...everyone put smiles on their faces and had a great time anyways!
Christ. I feel sorry for all the people who have left all their stuff in their tents. Imagine all the Pot Noodles that got wasted!
