  • I'm really kicking myself for not purchasing this album from Barnes & Noble online for $12 3 or 4 yrs ago. Now the CD is out of print, hard to find & outrageously expensive. I wish iTunes had this album or the song but it doesn't. Sad!

  • Yep, I also have this on vinyl from 1977! Another of my all time fav songs...and yes I too saw Max open for Rush a few times, and to this day still love the Webster shit! Yes, Canadian Rock Bands have indeed made some timeless amazing music for the Ages!!!

  • I remember being about 18, dropping acid and listening to these guys and Rush's Hemispheres. In hindsight, it must have been canadian bands that made me want to take acid??? great song. as we all know, they shoulda made the big time. great talent.

  • @alkimst13 - I saw FM backing up Saga (before Saga made it) in a very small venue in Ottawa, Canada. FM was the better of the two bands as Saga had to halt their set after blowing out half their audio system. That had to be sometime in the mid to late seventies.

I agree, this Canadian band had the talent to make it big but as I recall I think there was a dispute with their label and that was the end of FM. I would have been around 17 or 18. I have "Black Noise" on vinyl.

  • @Tull29 i've got it also. saw FM with Rush on the Moving Pictures tour in Oakland (i believe it was that tour). My wife was pregnant with my daughter and delivered the next day. Great show.

  • @alkimst13 - Ah, where has the time gone? I also saw Rush ( for the life of me I can't remember the tour) but I do remember that Max Webster was the opening act. I have to tell you ( hopefully not in a weird way) that to this day I still enjoy Kim Mitchell and old Max and Rush!

  • wow this song brings me back to the 70's. and i was born in the 90's. go figure.

  • I've got this album, in a milk carton, up in my attic.

Love this band...1st year of college - so many memories.

  • This is a terrific song. Much appreciated, Seven.

  • I had this album back in college and everyone who heard it was like "who are these guys?". Terrific stuff, which unfortunately seemed to get weaker with each succeeding album.

  • I used to have this album Black Noise, when I lived in Canada. Superb band with a very unique sound. Glad I found it again.

  • I just discovered this gem today and I'm 42... what the hell?!? How did I miss it???

  • @balderdashman ur still a kid, thousands of songs still out there waiting for u to discover. get on it. cheers

  • @Love4SK - I love your outlook!!

  • @balderdashman thanks, just saw nash the slash last night perform phasors on stun , check out my vid, he's still awesome.

  • @Love4SK - Aw, suh-weeet! Definitely will check it out!

  • @Love4SK - that was excellent! I'm still surprised that, up until a week ago, I've never heard of FM, this song, or the bizarre character of Nash the Slash. And to boot... I'm Canadian!! I also enjoyed the visuals he employed that were timed to the song. Very intoxicating. I'm an amateur filmmaker so I appreciate his artistic form. I would enjoy seeing him reunite with Cameron (I think that's the other guy's name) to get that eerie synth plus a real drum set. That would be mind-blowing.

  • This the first and great album by Nash The Slash, Cameron Hawkins, and Martin Deller who formed the group FM. The CD version of this album was put out by the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), one of the original and major Canadian Television Stations in Canada. It was manufactured in Canada by Now See Hear, copyright 1993. Barcode: 7-7781-87007-28. After the group disbanded, Nash The Slash continues to do concerts on his own. Hope this is of help to all who want to get a copy.

  • FYI you Canadiogoobers, this is one of the '70's classics in the Bay Area, and is considered (possibly) the best song ever from 1978.

  • this and joy division unknown pleasures got me through the rough times

  • Way back in 78 christmas I bought a bitchen' stereo. I was listening to an album rock station. Sometime in 79 0r 80 they played this. I went out and bought the album. My friends loved it almost as much as me. FM's subsequent albums are all cool but all sound different. It kept them interesting. Always music to get lost in.

  • Very cool!

  • Just wondering how I can get a copy of this song ?? or CD

  • @1945march just convert it to an mp3 file dude

  • They played my high school when I was in grade 10 or so. We got wasted...good times. Also Goddo and Triumph, looking back, those were the days.

  • The lyrics are all out of order man, you should fix that

  • Waaaaay ahead of its time

  • oh, and 2 people are lame

  • i always found this to be a charming opener for the album. but i'm no music expert by any means...just a fan

  • needs more views...

  • what do the lyrics mean? I cant seem to find the answer. Also, Im 13 and LOVE this song. Yet another great band from my home country.

  • @SuperMi97 It means whatever you want it to mean..Different experience for everyone...I like this tune on the road loud,,,,I find myself thinking about when i was a kid...I can't explain why,i just do...So,that's what makes this tune one of my favorites...

  • q107!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I roadied for FM a few times back in 78-79. Had good conversations with Cameron, Martin and Nash about this album. Good guys, but they took a beating in popularity due to this album taking it's place behind the leading spacey, progressive art rock offerings of bands like The Alan Parsons Project, who themselves, while extremely talented and producing excellent music, also suffered in popularity due to their music not being a go-to party favorite. Great stuff, just not mainstream enough.

  • @cloudsquirrel Sure glad they made this album! Definatly a clasic in my mind. proud to be Canadian.

  • One of those hauntingly beautiful songs from the synthesizer rock days that blows the music of today away. Hence, I only look for tremendous music deep into the past hoping for a return of such in the future. Not likely for awhile. A goosebump song that goes through my mind when I am on a solitude trail run in the mountains of Colorado or the deserts of Utah. as rawdog42 mentions - crank it up!!

  • Yet another great Canadian band. No one sounded like them. This whole album is brilliant. Great musicians. That seems to be consistent with Canadians bands at that time. Great musicianship. Another band I thought should have been bigger.

  • @muzikmann2728 ya nash the slash was a genius..... RUSH is still the best Canadian band of all-time....imo.....

  • @quincee33 no the band is the best with robbie roberston.

  • @muzikmann2728 great comment

  • This is epic. Im so glad to know and hear about this song. The lead is playing 2 keyboards , foot pedals , and singing. Crank this one one up people.

  • Thx thirdwatchjunkie

  • trying to find song but cant download it anywhere...even shazam failed...my life is not complete :(

  • @herrmitt1414, dude I found it on limewire.

  • Saw these guy open for Rush back in the day. Blew my mind, especially the keyboardist....

  • Q107 plays this all the time in Toronto. I had to find out who sings this. Thanks for the post. Truly a hidden gem.

  • 70's masterpiece - cool that Nash was there with the ostinato-echo well before the Edge. Thanks to Nash for giving me such a cool tune to learn the trick with.

  • Incredible tune! I can't believe so few people have listened to it. Fantastic choice for that headphone high!

  • More great Toronto music! Loved this ever since I heard it back in the mid-70's. Thanks for the posting seven maiden!

  • great group, shame music is crap today. my 5 year son loves the classics

  • Back in '85 some of us played a few records over the PA system at high school during the lunch hour. One day, I started the lunch with this tune.

It seemed the whole school went to the DJ booth afterwards. Everyone loved this song, but nobody knew what it was, so they came to ask me.

  • @hmshyperion you and your friends have EXCELLENT TASTE IN MUSIC, WAY TO GO, BIG THUMBS UP FROM ME.I JUST LOVE THIS SONG FROM THE FIRST TIME I HEARD, THATS A LONG TIME AGO, BUT STILL LISTEN TO IT ALL THE TIME. I have sent it to all my errrmm older friends too :), they love it still too! so CHEERS TO YOU!!!! from a chick from the era of the great music ;)

  • @hmshyperion Yes exactally , one of the greatest bands/songs that no one has any clue about.

  • I saw them in ALbany NY, opening night for a new club..... still remember it like it was yesterday.

  • epic song

  • Beautiful.

  • Unlike most of the drek from the 70s...I love this shit!

  • great song, great group, its ashame we don;t hear groups today with this talent

  • @mark19631 I agree 100%, always loved this song, still DO!!!! CHEERS :)e

  • Nash the Slash and FM!

  • Man... I want this album, but there is no way in hell I am paying for it on Amazon! 4 CD's tagged as imports for $136 and another one for $242!!!

  • You should be able to download it off a torrent site I think.

    It's a fucking great album.

I have the album at home.I bought it used at a used record store years ago.

The record is in great shape but the cover must have got wet at some point because it's wavy.

I saw them open for Rush in the very early 80's in Toronto.

  • @thierryman I went to my local HMV and ordered this a couple of years ago now and it cost less than $10.00!

  • Yeah well, if I was up in Canada that would be no problem! I guess the next time I go to Niagara Falls to see my relatives I will seek the cd.

  • @thierryman Sadly the cd is out of print. FM was cursed with poor record and distribution deals. On ebay an "orginal copy" sells for around 75USD. Good luck and enjoy a gem of Canadian music.

  • @poochiepooh I should've bought the CD when Barnes & Noble online had it a yr or so ago for $12.99. Now it's $65 b/c it's become so rare. I hope the CD gets reissued again in the near future. I ain't paying flippin $65 for one CD. Fuhgeddaboudit!!!

  • I will hold on. I cannot ride the wind, I ride you. I cannot touch the wind, I touch you. Nothing - is a dream. hold on and hold fast GT.

  • you screwed up the order of the "LYRIX"
