I'm on my third play through do Dark Souls, and my second character on Skyrim. I like how great all the stories in Skyrim. But for a good while I was more satisfied by Dark Souls till it twice. I can't decide.
@BoundForGlory11 graphics in dark souls are better, not way better but theyre better. Should also take a look at its intro, beautiful. Ironically demons souls graphics are better than dark souls though. But skyrim i can understand how its more enjoyable, its less irritating.

that dark souls player is a boss, 12 vitality and 22 endurance, you'd die in 1 hit, but if you never get hit i guess it's fine. my favorite thing is skyrim was waiting in the shadows for someone to walk up and doing some epic finishers, and killing every guard in the towns in one night. anyway I prefer dark souls, skyrim is too easy. and sadly most people that say skyrim haven't played both.

A lot of the spells in Skyrim is the same, conjure storm thrall and storm atronach is the exact same spell, the only difference being that one is permanent, and there are a lot of these. On top of that spells becomes redundant as you get more powerful ones.
Dark Souls has two types of magic, and while it's not as versatile, almost every spell is useful throughout the entire game as more powerful spells such as homing crystal soul mass, or great chaos fireball have very few charges.
personally, i think skyrim is amazing. and im sure dark souls is good too! why dont all rpg players all rejoice and not argue about what game is better! everyone has a certain game they love but that doesnt mean you have to trash on a different game :)
skyrim sucked ass the only good think about the game was the large world. gameplay was shit ur sword never felt like it hit anything. the dragon fights got boring after like the 3rd fight .the shouts were just magic with a different name so it sounded like u got more. there is no online and zero replay value this game was the most over hyped game ever and shouldnt have won a damn thing

Skyrim's problem is that even though it has tons of things to do, none of those things are quite impressive. Melee combat is a sequence of slashing back and forth with no real feedback, magic is a process of watching their health drain till they die, and stealth is flawed due its incredibly stupid AI. The best thing it has going for it is exploration.

He forgot to mention that, with become ethereal, your stats still regenerate and your enemies still follow you, meaning that you can lure them into traps. It's flipping perfect for mages that can't do shit without magicka (pisses me off since magicka potions are hard to find).

I am a massive elder scrolls fan ( been playing since morrowind release) and i have only just considered getting dark souls and i want your opinion what do you think i should get it or am i wasting my money????
@DaGamer500 Its a very challenging game and its unforgiving. However it is very rewarding and the combat is so much fun and to be honest imo its better then skyrim.
@nash3timemvp It has minimalist storytelling but there is actually a pretty deep back story of the world but you have to find the back story through NPC's which is easier said then done and alot of it comes from your interpretation of the world.
@stacetheface47 Relatively though Dark Souls is much more forgiving than Demon's Souls. For instance, you can 'sell' items to Frampt, absolve yourself of sins if you piss off an NPC, and weapon upgrade materials are much more plentiful.
@railroadwino1 Maybe forgiving in some areas but in terms of difficulty I had a way harder time with this game then Demon Soul's. Demon's Souls only took me 30 hours to beat my first time through and most bosses could be easily exposed especially if you where a royal and used magic on top of that most bosses where not that difficult unlike dark souls which you had guys like Ornstein and Smough and the final boss and it took me 70 hrs. However I will agree that Demon's Souls was more unforgiving.
Dark Souls does have a better polished and more challenging combat than Skyrim. But the people who say that enemies don't react to your attacks in Skyrim are just a bunch of fanboys, I can't count the n.o the times the weak enemies ran away from me because i was owning them, enemies also beg for mercy when they are on low hp and there are also several perks which allow various attacks to stagger your enemies, so the people who say that enemies don't react to your attacks are a bunch of idiots.
@fan977 It's not the running away that's the issue it's to do with balance and weight of the characters and combat
Example
If you swing at an enemy with a big heavy weapon, you would expect for you to take a slow big swing and when the weapon hits, you expect the enemy to stagger or be knocked over. If you fight down a corridor, you would have to use thrusting weapon because you can't swing a big weapon horizontal. Stuff like that adds depth to gameplay which Skyrim's combat is lacking
@slightlytwistedagain My main point was that the people saying that enemies do not react to your attacks in Skyrim is false because they get down on their enemies, run away and get staggered, if they reacted to every attack that would make the game ten times easier & it will also cancel out the need to use power attacks because your regular attacks will stagger enemies anyway, that will also make some perks useless. Skyrim's combat is not flawless but its still better than Oblivion & Morrowind.
@fan977 But you can't be forgiving on a system like that in this day of age where physics play a big roll in games. TES have a very old gameplay mechanic that needs to change that would take more things into account like proper knock backs and have proper weight burdens because it makes the experience so much more better. You may say it doesn't need it but I say it does. It makes me feel like I'm playing a joke of a game when I see no cause and effect over the simplest of attacks.
@slightlytwistedagain I never said the combat is perfect, it really does need more improvments to make the combat more realistic. However while playing to me it really doesn't seem as bad as you are saying, I still have tons of fun despite the lack of realism. And if you think that playing as a warrior is boring then you should try playing as a mage or a sneaky character, playing as a mage or a stealth guy makes the experience ten times better imo.

Where is the story & character development in DS, and before people say that it doesn't need it, they should realize that almost every game nowadays has story & characters & in many cases it is even better than the movies, so why does DS get a pass? Trash Skyrim's story & characters all you want atleast Bethesda tried to tell a story and develop characters unlike Namco. Also many games have been trashed for daily respawning, cheap deaths and lack of checkpoints but why does DS get a pass again?
BOTH games are for noobs. I've always hated melee combat in all TES games. It's just so fucking unsatisfying: Moving back and forth, flailing your weapons left and right and sometimes popping an occasional charge attack.
@cedry learn to use a sword before you comment on any "melee combat", because in real cold weapon melee fight, you only going forth and back, rise shield to block, you won't got much chance to dodge or use your fancy ass move, and you you puff like a dog after dropping one enemy, just as how you don't like it. it's reality! swallow it!
@Vostadues Realism isn't always the best aspect in video games. Of course in real-life you have to fight carefully, but these are video games we're talking about: it doesn't matter if the fighting is all fancy and flashy-looking as long as it is entertaining ;)
there are actually a few reasons to pick skyrim over dark souls. imbalanced pvp, more content in skyrim, hell some reviews even criticized because of the difficulty (wanna know why? because this game wasnt meant to be mainstream like skyrim, they didnt need all these commercials and crap because the devs even said that not everyone will like the difficulty)But combat is where Dark souls truly shines!

Also try facing a dragon in demon's souls or dark souls. You can't get within 30 feet of him without getting burnt to a crisp. Dragons are insanely hard to kill in the souls games, Skyrim it looks easy.

@videogamejo Play a game like Sins of a Solar empire where you have wars on multiple fronts and trying to juggle massive fleets of ships while trying to reinforce weak areas that is multitasking on a grand scale and it is alot harder than rolling around waiting to attack a enemy at the right moment.Have you ever played a good RTS game they are the hardest games to master.

Well, not all parts of the game are difficult. The beginning of the game is easy and some stages aren't hard at all, but there are stages that are very hard. You don't always face an enemy one one one either. I hate Call of Duty, this game is nothing like it, so I don't know where you got that comparison from.
Losing souls when dying can be frustrating, but I never carry too many souls on me, I always spend them on upgrades so I usually don't lose too much.
@braindawgs9 they are totally different though. unlike bf3 vs cod (where they are both extremely similar IMO) dark souls and skyrim actually are 2 totally different games.
skyrim has a superior universe more NPC and just a generally more immersive and believable world. dark souls has literally perfect combat and is a lot more engaging than skyrim really testing your patience and observation.

The level of inspirational and committed craftmanship that went into creating Skyrim's world ALONE should be enough to obliterate Dark Souls entirely. After having sank almost a hundred hours playing it I'm very confident about its incredible quality. I couldn't believe how much work went into creating those countless singular dungeons alone. It's nuts and incredible. This is Bethesda's best game to date. They simply can't be topped.
Its skills system is good and a mix new and old. It has the feel of the normal skill system but is reworked to work very well. Its NPCs are very cool and followers are actually helpful. Even though voices are the same for some people the games voice acting is very good. It also really does dragons justice. A lot of games dont do dragons right. this game gives random encounters or places where dragon are known to be at in the map. Dark souls is good but just is not better than skyrim. skyrim FTW
skyrim is soooo much better than dark souls. It has a awesome and detailed open world ranging from pine forests to swamps to mountains to tundra. Its amount of content is amazing too. You could finish the whole main story line and be nowhere near done with the game. I have put countless hours into this game and not i never get bored of it. Besides the main storyline there are faction quest or daedric quest or a lot of misc quest. You also have many side missions. (continued in next comment)
The differnece between Dark Souls and Skyrim to me comes mostly down to the fact that with Skyrim I always catch myself thinking how much better that game would have been, if they did this, or that. With Dark Souls I never got that feeling, it felt right from the get go. Edit: talking about gameplay, not glitches and bugs, which both games had their share of, Dark Souls to a lesser extent than Skyrim.

There is a big glaring flaw in Dark Souls' combat however... Elemental Weapons are very overpowered. To the point where you really don't have to level up anything except VIT and END.
@ChaosZack08 I played a DEX build from day one, not knowing about lightning weapons. Turned out that I won most pvp encounters. If I lost, it was because I suck at backstabbing, not because the other guys were swinging elemental weapons. And that was even bofore I started to enchant my dex-scaling balder side blade.
@flufiboi PC version of what, Dark Souls? There is none. Combat wise, Dark Souls is a lot more deeper than Skyrim; that's inarguable. Hell, Dark Souls is practically built around its combat.
Skyrim is beautiful! I love all the textures I'n the game but the frustration I'n dark souls completes what I need as a gamer. Dark souls is huge! But your classes are not customizable as skyrim. For an example I'n skyrim you could be a hunter your whole game role and dark souls you are forced into thriving combat. Two very different games and very much alike. If I want to stare at the sky I'll play skyrim if I want to die I play dark souls :)

I use 20+ shots to kill a draugr scourge, and in higher level dungeons they're COMMON enemies.
I should also point out I have a 208 attack Daedric bow, I use ebony arrows and I have level 100 archery.

@railroadwino1 Maybe forgiving in some areas but in terms of difficulty I had a way harder time with this game then Demon Soul's. Demon's Souls only took me 30 hours to beat my first time through and most bosses could be easily exposed especially if you where a royal and used magic on top of that most bosses where not that difficult unlike dark souls which you had guys like Ornstein and Smough and the final boss and it took me 70 hrs. However I will agree that Demon's Souls was more unforgiving.

Dark Souls does have a better polished and more challenging combat than Skyrim. @fan977 It's not the running away that's the issue it's to do with balance and weight of the characters and combat
Example
If you swing at an enemy with a big heavy weapon, you would expect for you to take a slow big swing and when the weapon hits, you expect the enemy to stagger or be knocked over. If you fight down a corridor, you would have to use thrusting weapon because you can't swing a big weapon horizontal. Stuff like that adds depth to gameplay which Skyrim's combat is lacking

@slightlytwistedagain My main point was that the people saying that enemies do not react to your attacks in Skyrim is false because they get down on their enemies, run away and get staggered, if they reacted to every attack that would make the game ten times easier & it will also cancel out the need to use power attacks because your regular attacks will stagger enemies anyway, that will also make some perks useless. Skyrim's combat is not flawless but its still better than Oblivion & Morrowind.

@fan977 But you can't be forgiving on a system like that in this day of age where physics play a big roll in games. TES have a very old gameplay mechanic that needs to change that would take more things into account like proper knock backs and have proper weight burdens because it makes the experience so much more better. You may say it doesn't need it but I say it does. It makes me feel like I'm playing a joke of a game when I see no cause and effect over the simplest of attacks.

However while playing to me it really doesn't seem as bad as you are saying, I still have tons of fun despite the lack of realism. And if you think that playing as a warrior is boring then you should try playing as a mage or a sneaky character, playing as a mage or a stealth guy makes the experience ten times better imo.

I've always hated melee combat in all TES games. It's just so fucking unsatisfying: Moving back and forth, flailing your weapons left and right and sometimes popping an occasional charge attack.

Well, not all parts of the game are difficult. The beginning of the game is easy and some stages aren't hard at all, but there are stages that are very hard. You don't always face an enemy one one one either. I hate Call of Duty, this game is nothing like it, so I don't know where you got that comparison from.
Losing souls when dying can be frustrating, but I never carry too many souls on me, I always spend them on upgrades so I usually don't lose too much.

The level of inspirational and committed craftmanship that went into creating Skyrim's world ALONE should be enough to obliterate Dark Souls entirely. Its skills system is good and a mix new and old. It has the feel of the normal skill system but is reworked to work very well. Its NPCs are very cool and followers are actually helpful. Even though voices are the same for some people the games voice acting is very good. It also really does dragons justice. A lot of games dont do dragons right. this game gives random encounters or places where dragon are known to be at in the map. Dark souls is good but just is not better than skyrim. skyrim FTW

skyrim is soooo much better than dark souls. It has a awesome and detailed open world ranging from pine forests to swamps to mountains to tundra. Its amount of content is amazing too. You could finish the whole main story line and be nowhere near done with the game. I have put countless hours into this game and not i never get bored of it. Besides the main storyline there are faction quest or daedric quest or a lot of misc quest. You also have many side missions. (continued in next comment)

The differnece between Dark Souls and Skyrim to me comes mostly down to the fact that with Skyrim I always catch myself thinking how much better that game would have been, if they did this, or that. With Dark Souls I never got that feeling, it felt right from the get go. Edit: talking about gameplay, not glitches and bugs, which both games had their share of, Dark Souls to a lesser extent than Skyrim.

Skyrim is beautiful! I love all the textures I'n the game but the frustration I'n dark souls completes what I need as a gamer. Dark souls is huge! But your classes are not customizable as skyrim. For an example I'n skyrim you could be a hunter your whole game role and dark souls you are forced into thriving combat. Two very different games and very much alike. If I want to stare at the sky I'll play skyrim if I want to die I play dark souls :)
