  • Chinese are very creative and original, contrary to some prejudiced and biased Western perceptions. They were the first ones to invent Gunpowder and use it for weapons (not just Fireworks like some people think). They invented the first Compass, modern paper, first to Print (movable-type woodblock).....Just to name a few?

  • Read the "Shengren" from Thorsten Pattberg.

  • I visit the websites and post comments with the assistance of machine translation. Thanks my friends for their understanding, support and help."

    在中国做生意,首先,做为朋友,建立诚信,互利互惠,互利双赢。

Doing business in China, first as friends, build faith, mutual benefit, mutual benefit and win-win situation.

  • I think you guys misunderstood, he was saying that Chinese place greater importance on the process than the results. I've been living in China for awhile and showed this video to some of my friends and they agreed with his conclusions. They are not absolutes but explaining the values of the society. They value harmony above results, thus guanxi is more important than your actual skills.

  • Chinese people are the freekin original innovators, 1st to invent vaccines. true story, they crushed up smallpox crusts and had people inhale them and get a mild version of the illness with a .2-5% mortality rate instead of 20-30. They were doing all kinds of fancy exploring and investigating long before westerners

Chinese culture is not knowledge based??? Pah-leeze

  • anybody can tell this man is a nutjob when he calls steve jobs an innovator LOL

they call him an innovator and claim he actually innovated things back in the day but that's lies, his name is on modern patents of modern apple products that he hasn't even really worked on

the man is a salesman not an innovator, he pretties up and sells what others create

  • Read up on Chinese history before you dare say we are not result-oriented, or that we only follow rules and we are not a "knowledge-seeking culture". Every culture in this world has its own unique ways of acquiring knowledge, to better themselves and to make a change in the world.

As far as I know, the greatest Chinese inventions have changed the world more than Apple has. I'm typing on a mac as I speak but I don't think it beats compass, gunpowder and paper printing.

  • Ah, man! I just bought the collected works of Plato, 1300 pages, and you spoiled it for me in 1 sentence! Makes me wanna break your Chinese glasses!

  • do not make assumptions or conclusion on anything you know, coz there are always lots of sides that you may not know or will never know in your life.

  • Furthermore, he talks about results. Look at the many chinese inventions and tell me you don't see results... nuff said.

  • Hes has a narrow idea of what china is. He is kinda correct because people see china as a homogeneous close-nit society. He fails neglect the achievements of china in ancient times. China was the most advance civilization in ancient time, while europe was waiting for marco polo to be born and bring them out of the dark ages.

His comparison reminds me of startrek. The western culture is the starship enterprise , while the chinese culture is the borg (you will be assimilated). lol

  • @Doorkeyness --Apparently you haven't clue, either about the subject matter or differences in culture. I have to admit though - your first sentence is amazingly vapid.

  • yeah i think your ryt

western people are very researchful people they are curious of ther surroundings

chinese are very practical people they invented so many great things that help our world to level up long before the west makes marco polo travel to east and COPY the system in china....

so many people are saying that chinese things are just copies they are not thinking that without marco polo went to china list the way way of life of the chinese west is nothing... but a barbaric society...

  • This video recorded in 2007..if you watch it now ,obviusly westerners are wrong almost every thing about Chinese cultures.every year they predicted Chinese economy collapse in past 20 years.each year Chinese prove them wrong, they produced fastest computer, fastest train, space walk, stealth fighter.anti-ship missile..they get it done that worry the west.

  • Why did you quit your channel and remove the other videos? I don't understand. Or did you just move to another channel? Help!!!

  • if you do not follow the rule, policeman may arrest you next day or you stay in jail for life !

not only your moral need rules your behavour also does !

  • Well done! Can't think of anyone on the internet who said it better!

  • Never heard anyone or read anyone saying it more eloquent and accurate than you in your excellent video presentations! Thumbs up!

  • I feel sorry of my previous comments . I said those previous comments because from modern times to the present day , western countries and Japan rule the rest of the world.

I also want China to rule the rest of the world just like in the past/ ancient times. I think it will be come soon.

  • to mushroomtung:

I had been to Canada before and I know that westerners like Japan/ Japanese more than China/ Chinese. It is because westerners and Japanese are more polite and good manner than Chinese people.

I also know that in the past( such as in Qin, Hang, Tong , Song, Yuan and Ming dynasty) China own the rest of the world. But from Qing dynasty to nowadays, western countries and Japan own the rest of the world.

  • Achieve harmony is not contrary to gain and express knowledge, they are totally different things. As a matter of fact, through the long history of China, there are numerous inventory of arts, literature, technology, medication and more, that had generated huge impact to the entire human history, which last til now. Yes, Apple is big now, what about 10, 20, 50 years later when other new technology new ideas come out, who's gonna remember it?

  • Excellent question. After 204 BC Confucius' ideas became official dogma Chinese basically stopped asking elemental questions--what is right/wrong, good/bad--and scholarship became memorizing and applying Confucius' rules and thoughts. China became a rules-obeying culture. This was esp true for the ultra-conservative non-Chinese Qing.

Chinese were happy and secure in their Mandate of Heaven worldview; why change?

Yes, there was LaoTzu who differed, but that was more for personal than society.

  • @sookabillygreg i think the difference is much more because of the geographical aspect. China is a nation of agriculture with natural boundries on all sides. The ppl can satify and sustain all their need in this land mass. They need not to 'explore' like the west did and to conquer much more territories and to 'trade' externally. The sense of territory in Chinese for thousand years is not that important as compared to Western nations, (not even the emporer himself know how large his country is)

  • 朝聞道 夕死可矣

was one of Confucious' most famous sayings/beliefs. And you say that the Chinese is not a knowledge seeking culture?

  • one Gabissky sames to be missing. that is chinese like to try

  • totally wrong mind set and thinking. in fact every individual could born to be different in the way they think of. the reason why you there is lack of creativity in the asian society is not because of we born to be that it is because he can't afford to think of it. most asia country don't seem to rich and still struggle to accumulate capital from aroud the world. how far we can think about the knowledge if we still surviving our daily life. no much time we can allocate for our creativity.

  • sorry, but you know little about Confucius. Please learn before you speak.

  • My Chinese wife left me on holiday without saying she was going back to China. It was on a 4 month holiday which she really loved. She couldnt confront me & tell me she had to go home. She thought it would upset me. She told me what a great guy I was, what a great time I gave her. Next day she sneaked away back to China. She thought giving me so much good face would cushion me from the fall I was going to have when I found shed gone. She did nothing wrong as far as she could see. Help!!

  • it completely ignores Lao Tzu and the Taoist movement who seeks rebellion and being closer to nature. it goes against hierarchy and obeying rules . yin and yang are used in a different relation to each other, in fact the patriarchal Confucian thinking is denounced.

  • @malvadaDiabolica Chinese thinking is influneced more by Confucius than by Lao Tzu.

  • in every society there are two opposite sides , and even Mao is influenced much by the mystical sects of ancient china, his perception of communism is very much romantic. of course, i shall not argue about how he resumed his romantic vision.and this is quite obvious, any government will rather Confucius and his obedience (through harmony each one has to be both obeying and obeyed yin-yang beautiful idea that again, seems

  • forgotten by modern china) over lao tzu and his anti-hierarchical approach. this is why Japan adopted Confucian thinking so eagerly as well.

  • I don't think the Chinese are just a rule obeying culture. I think that if you want to compare East and West there's only one place to go and that is Religion. The harmony you are referring to is harmony with nature. Harmony with the world itself. In the end.. we are all Chinese because that is where the human race landed. (comes from). We did not descended from apes in Africa. Humans are a completely different species. Read the books. Religion anyone???

  • @cobrajitsu

the "books" don't say humans evolved from apes. know what you're talking about.

    we are not "all Chinese".

  • In the Chinese Society,, the King comes first, then is God, and then the People

But the in West, God comes First, then is the King, and then the people.

  • theres always pros and cons, nothings

    perfect.Chinese government like to

    adopt confucianism to stabilize its

rules not because they believe in

    its ideals.

  • DALBAEB!!!

  • china is producing great ferrari replicas. if anyone knows where, let the world know. and it would be great if they could produce a lotus esprit replica too!

  • the father of western culture is GOD. in the west, nothing is as important as what gets done. so jobs either done or too lazy to get it done.

you really have no knowledge of asian society. were you just pissed off cause an asian boss yelled at you? too chicken to yell at his face so you're whining at youtubers.

  • @Doorkeyness "god" cannot be the father of western culture because western culture is older than the invention of the EASTERN deity you call god.

Christianity is ALIEN to European culture, in a pure sense.

  • @Doorkeyness Stop defending them like he attacked asians. He said nothing wrong about them?

  • @Doorkeyness um i think he was speaking more highly of eastern society than western...not the other way around

  • so what is the purpose of this video? another justification to the age old stereotype that whites are the only people capable of innovation?

  • it took it as that one of the faults of western philosophy is results of process. That said, I think the financial system would be in a much stable and healthy condition if the institutions followed the rules. I think results count, but so does the process the laws, regulations, and the rules needed to measure the results. On the other side of your agreement I understand that it is inaccurate to paint an entire society with a broad brush and this video may seem indicative of a stereotype.

  • for over 1000 years,, west was dominated by Christianity, and people believe only God and Jesus and they weren't dare to even try to seeking thoughts!! However,, when the Medieval period has ended,, people begin to look back the ideologies of Greek thinkers like Plato. Then enlightenment begins people seeking truth on its own potential,, Most enlightenment thinker such as John Lock,, they not a big fan of religion such as God..

  • I still await the enlightened day when people realize that the government only wanted to classify churches under religions for the purpose of a separation of church and state, and so as to prevent fornication between churches and governments. People at that time who studied Plato and did not concern them selves with matters of god, did not desire to regulate thought like is done today. Most of who looked back to Greek thinkers were believers in a God, as the Greeks were also believers in a god.

  • you're projecting

it's only in asia that people don't "dare to even try their own thoughts"

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks Greg Bissky

  • to popqq123 :

I am a Hong Konger( Chinese).

To me, I like western culture( especially American cullture) the most. Second is Japanese culture( especially Japanese youth culture). It is because westerners are more open minded and can accept different point of view than Chinese.

  • I hope that my president will be more open minded about doing more business in China. He has given me the impression that his policies will be more protectionist rather than free trade. I do not see any sense in putting tariffs wilily nilly or mindlessly on the goods and services I as an American value.

  • ironically, thats wat the communist chinese are doing now; creating harmonious society, remember the olympic torch relay? its also known as journey of harmony

  • lol at traffic rules xD

  • Just according to your segment here: I am sure that you haven't read "Yi Jing". Please becareful to make absolute statements. China was the richest and the most techonological country on earth until 1800's. Lots of chinese inventions had contributed to move the world forward.

  • i thought white people worship Jesus not Plato

  • We're talking about Society not Religion.

  • christianity originated in the middle east.

middle easterners are not "white" (although some especially lebanese can fool you)

  • nowadays is global culture. So a country's culture do not influenced a person's a lot. Personal's value and character influenced a person more than his/her own culture.

  • In every country there are about 10-15% of people who believe what you said.

  • lol i don't know about percentages but either way he's wrong

  • Thank you for this video.

  • Plato was just another slave in the system. he claimed he didn't know, cause the truth was being hid from him and the world, if he knew he wouldn't told everyone. your perception of everything is clearly western ideology. most philosophers unfortunetly were slaves to the system and thats all they speak of. the truth is not artificial and the truth does cost money! reality cannot be washed in any natural disaster.

  • did you cut this segment short? i would really like to know more about this topic

  • That's why I like western culture more than oriented culture, even though I am Chinese. If I have a choice, I woul like to be a westerner(especially canadian) instead of Chinese.

  • So your opinion on Chinese culture is as shallow as a westerner's? I bet you are a banana anyway.

  • STFU?

  • @xiaoxiao19 shame on u. u do not deserve to be a chinese. and u believe everything he says? he doesn't know anything about chinese culture and even confucius. chinese culture is a very deep culture. yes i am a chinese but i am born and raised outside china. I do not worship chinese culture just because i am a chinese. true, there are many chinese culture that should be ablished such as the discrimination against woman. but western culture is not perfect either

  • @xiaoxiao19 no one is perfect. it makes me very very angry when people step on the chinese culture like that even the chinese themselves. they worship wesntern culture and look down on their own people.

do not forget china was more technoligically advanced than any nation before the qing dynasty. therefore his claim that china is not a knowledge driven country is false. and i am supported with evidence with this statement. china tops the physics and mathematics olympiad for a long time.

  • @xiaoxiao19 and to the man who made this video, we chinese do not speak without brain just like what u did in this video. we think before we act or speak. please do more research and think a little before u speak next time

  • lol at traffic rules :)

  • I am planning launch a Confucius course, wanna see the feedback from the public, please share. will launch Zhuangzi and SunTzu if the first course goes well. tx
