Is your Tour trackball still working? I have problems wih mine that I got Replaced in August also. I got a brand new one. Now the trackball problem for me is vertical.

Maybe this is an software issue? Because i have a Curve 8520 and when i updated from 4.6 to 5.0,the trackpad at 100 doesn't even scroll smooth, but weirdly, when i use cloth or some other material other than my skin, it WORKS well! It won't respond to skin, (weird) and after i upgraded the software, it worked flawlessly, cloth or skin, LOL! So yeah, maybe its the software
they should just abandon the trackball all together and give people who have them a model with a trackpad instead of just sending you another worthless trackball. my 2nd tour arrives this wednesday, lets hope its better.
Six tours is crazy you should get the bold 9700 its perfect the trackpad is always functional and it feels more natural i have a curve with trackpad and a bold but the bold is way better
blackberry's are great yes the trackball can get sticky but its just because that you should clean it because dirt and dust and other crap can get into it and as soon as you clean it will work fine

I bought a used 8900 Curve and had the exact problem. It made very similar trackball rolling noise as the author's 5th Tour. I bought and installed a new trackball and it works like a charm now. I feather it all the time.
Great idea, and thanks- but try cutting it to 1 or 2 minutes. Alot of repetition, and it drags on and on- comparing two trackballs shouldn't take 9 and a half minutes. it's a good thing blackberry put the trackpad on the new bold 9700 and curve 8520 and i use the trackpad every day with my curve 8520 and it is a 1000 times better than the trackball trust me go 2 a phone store and check it out

It's not as easy as just returning your phone. Most carriers offer this phone as part of a 3-year contract and only offer a one year warranty. Anything after one year is usually your responsibility and is too expensive to fix. It's a shame.
ive had no problem with my trackball. my service provider is cellular south. i actually love this phone and selected it over the hero. dont know how i went so long without a blackberry.

my trackball was acting kinda wierd like that and i hurd just to clean it with hand sanatizer! wat i did was that i locked the phone then i put just a dab of hand sanatizer and started moving the trackball all over. also pressing on it while you move it around too. then i just waited till it dried out then it worked just fine

sorry man but its like the old mouses with the ball in the bottom sometimes you open it and there is lint / dust/ greese on the wheels that spin making the ball work.. eventually it will mess up mine just messed up and im getting it fixed today :D

I got my tour and I like it. I'm worried about this tho overtime will my trackball become dissfunctional? For example since I can't clean the sensor like on the 8000 series will my phone be useless when that happens? Should I get the extended warranty for four bucks?
Excellent video Zee! The floor model I was playing with at the Verizon store had the horizontal scroll problem and so I passed on the phone. After seeing the video, I'm now curious if I should try again -- and purchase, provided I get to test the phone prior to taking it home. =) Sounds like a "green dot" under the battery signifies a later Manufacturing date? I'll keep my eyes peeled. Again, SLICK video!
Hey...have you tried taking the track ball off and cleaning it? at times with dirt it keeps the ball from rolling correctly...somewhat like a computer mouse back in the day. They have videos on here that teaches you how to take the track ball apart...hope that helps..if thats not the case, just disregard what I said..
Sorry to hear about this. I was one of the fortunate ones that got a working trackball on day 1. My only complaint with the phone was that the Bluetooth connectivity with a hands free set made my voice almost silent to the other caller. RIM just released OS build 4.7.1.53 and this fixed my issue.

I'm on Tour number three, the first had that trackball issue and a really loose back, and the second also had the trackball issue.
Since you have been through more Tours than anyone I know of, and more than Verizon wants to tell me, have you noticed a difference in the amount of screen ripple phone-to-phone, and also noticed the loose battery covers? My latest tour has the loose battery cover, but a working trackball. I don't feel like chancing the loose cover for another bad trackball. Thanks!
woah 6th one!? I have the EXACT same prob with my trackball, as in it doesn't scroll left to right well, but fine with the up and down. It stopped working well about 3rd week in. got mine replaced today because of the trackball issue, and not only does it work perfect, i also received $50 back because they lowered the prices! If your getting yours replaced make sure the box that they get from the back of the store has a green sticker. those are the ones that have the trackball fix and the loose battery cover fix
Hey i got a tour with a bad trackball too with sprint. Your on your 6th tour, can you explain did you get to keep the faulty ones or you had to send it in as an exchange when you received the new one. Also did they charge you.
They don't charge but once you get the new phone, you have to return the faulty phone within 15 days or they will charge your account for the price of the phone.
I just got 14 Tours for my company. I noticed that 7 were older boxes with a glossy or more slick battery sticker, these were the ones with bad trackballs. The other 7 had with a more ruff gritty sticker, these so far had working trackballs. Check for battery sticker. Glossy feel = bad trackball, gritty sticker = good trackball.
The sticker wrapped around the battery. The only one under the back cover. It should be gritty to the touch. This is my own hypothesis. I haven't heard this from anyone else, just something I have noticed between 7 working trackballed Tours and 7 slow trackballed Tours. All my busted Tours were slick labeled. All that had gritty labels are fine and seem to have newer looking boxes.
I called Blackberry RIM last week. The tech claimed they had no record of Tour trackball problems??? Yeah, right. All these Tour trackball complaints on the internet must be making this up. And why hasn't a firmware/software upgrade been released yet? Come on Blackberry. What's going on with you guys. Your name used to mean quality before the Storm and now the Tour.
These phone manufacturers are jumping the gun when it comes to releasing new products because the want to stay on top of the game. Unfortunately, as in most cases, there is a learning curve and they must release the phones to the public for true feedback. Believe it or not, all of the complaints are making RIM a better company. Watch for software updates and enhanced performance.
My 3rd Tour replacement worked perfectly out of the box. I got home and started loading my purchased apps from App World and the trackball problems started. I called Sprint to cancel my account because nobody took ownership of my problem just kept transferring me around. I got a manager in the cancel/save dept (Acct Services) who said "Sprint only provides the service for the phones. They aren't responsible for phone problems, just for cellular service problems". Dumb_ _ _. Verizon here I come.
I just set my horizontal to the lowest setting, 20, and it still worked perfectly. Slow, but no problem going left to right. So people should have to deal with being forced to adjust their settings, when I can set mine to 20 and it works better then your old Tour did at 70. Sorry you had to go through 6 Tours to get a good one man.
I feel aweful for anyone who had to deal with the bad trackball. I got my Tour not a week ago, trackball works great. Too bad the first few batches to come out were so bad.
I got my tour the day it came out. thanks to your video, i realized how bad mine was. I called verizonon monday, and told them about the trackball. They said I was past the 30 day return policy, but they said I was still under warranty. They shiped me a replcement. I got it on wednesday. and am so happy I did. The new tour has a better track ball. reception is better. and the battery door is nice and sturdy. Thanks for posting this video
I'm glad I saw this. I have to return mine because of a mic malfunction (No it's not my pinky, I can shout and not be heard with it laying flat in my hand) . Now I see that my trackball isn't how it should be, the backplate has wobble all around, and the screen ripples with the top keys. I like the phone, assuming I can get a quality built one.
Just had to replace mine today! Hope I don't go through that many. My trackball actually does not work up and down. BlackBerry, after the Storm, now this, you have dissapointed me way too much. Next phone may not be BB...

I also saw somewhere that if you put your sensitivity to 100 and 100 and scroll left or right and it hops when it gets to the end, its defective. The one i have now (#4) doesn't do that and i doubt yours would either.

It can't be hardware issue, because, in the option menu, the trackball worked fine (2:35). I'm guessing this is just an OS issue.

don't ever put the phone in your pocket or bag. Just always keep it in the case to minimize the dust getting inside of the ball.

used to have the blackberry pearl couple years ago for a couple months. track ball died out. couldnt go left or down. ANNOYING!! switched to new phone and haven't gone back to blackberry again. i want the tour, but scared of the same problem. =/

youre right it doesnt matter why it doesnt work ... the problem is it doesnt work!! its your money!! you work hard and so should your phone.. mine luckly works.. just got it last fri... i put mine slower and its still fast hope it stays working for me! hopine yours is still good! great vid

I got my tour and I like it. I'm worried about this tho overtime will my trackball become dissfunctional? For example since I can't clean the sensor like on the 8000 series will my phone be useless when that happens? Should I get the extended warranty for four bucks?

damn i bought mine from my friend new in box for 300 and guess what I have the same problem. he never took it out of box so i coulndt blame him.
i heard the best fix is to replace the ball with another.

Excellent video Zee! The floor model I was playing with at the Verizon store had the horizontal scroll problem and so I passed on the phone. After seeing the video, I'm now curious if I should try again -- and purchase, provided I get to test the phone prior to taking it home. =) Sounds like a "green dot" under the battery signifies a later Manufacturing date? I'll keep my eyes peeled. Again, SLICK video!

Hey...have you tried taking the track ball off and cleaning it? at times with dirt it keeps the ball from rolling correctly...somewhat like a computer mouse back in the day. They have videos on here that teaches you how to take the track ball apart...hope that helps..if thats not the case, just disregard what I said..

Sorry to hear about this. I was one of the fortunate ones that got a working trackball on day 1. My only complaint with the phone was that the Bluetooth connectivity with a hands free set made my voice almost silent to the other caller. RIM just released OS build 4.7.1.53 and this fixed my issue.
For anyone who has issues with your Tour, are you going to wait till the Storm 2 comes out to switch back over? Are you switching to AT&T for the Bold?

I'm on Tour number three, the first had that trackball issue and a really loose back, and the second also had the trackball issue.
Since you have been through more Tours than anyone I know of, and more than Verizon wants to tell me, have you noticed a difference in the amount of screen ripple phone-to-phone, and also noticed the loose battery covers? My latest tour has the loose battery cover, but a working trackball. I don't feel like chancing the loose cover for another bad trackball. Thanks!

woah 6th one!? I have the EXACT same prob with my trackball, as in it doesn't scroll left to right well, but fine with the up and down. It stopped working well about 3rd week in. Wondering if they gave you all refurbs all the other time. I'm going to have to send mine in. nice video, m8. hopefully my 2nd one will be the last tour for me.

WOW your sixth one, sorry man. i agree you better get your moneys worth. i sont see why blackberrys are so expensive really. it seems that with every new one there are more defects and faults than any other. RIM is doing a SHIT job in phonemaking and taking their sweet ass time to do so also so i dont really get why they suck so bad. iva had 4 blackberrys and am currently on a storm and .... even tho its a good phone it took A LOT of software updates to get it working.

Yeah i dint have problems with the trackball, ive had problems with my headphone jack and with the bezel being kinda loose Ive had 3 so far and its still messed up. Im not going to a curve so ill keep on trying

got mine replaced today because of the trackball issue, and not only does it work perfect, i also received $50 back because they lowered the prices! If your getting yours replaced make sure the box that they get from the back of the store has a green sticker. those are the ones that have the trackball fix and the loose battery cover fix

Hey i got a tour with a bad trackball too with sprint. Your on your 6th tour, can you explain did you get to keep the faulty ones or you had to send it in as an exchange when you received the new one. Also did they charge you.

They don't charge but once you get the new phone, you have to return the faulty phone within 15 days or they will charge your account for the price of the phone.

I just got 14 Tours for my company. I noticed that 7 were older boxes with a glossy or more slick battery sticker, these were the ones with bad trackballs. The other 7 had with a more ruff gritty sticker, these so far had working trackballs. Check for battery sticker. Glossy feel = bad trackball, gritty sticker = good trackball.

The sticker wrapped around the battery. The only one under the back cover. It should be gritty to the touch. This is my own hypothesis. I haven't heard this from anyone else, just something I have noticed between 7 working trackballed Tours and 7 slow trackballed Tours. All my busted Tours were slick labeled. All that had gritty labels are fine and seem to have newer looking boxes.

I called Blackberry RIM last week. The tech claimed they had no record of Tour trackball problems??? Yeah, right. All these Tour trackball complaints on the internet must be making this up. And why hasn't a firmware/software upgrade been released yet? Come on Blackberry. What's going on with you guys. Your name used to mean quality before the Storm and now the Tour.

These phone manufacturers are jumping the gun when it comes to releasing new products because the want to stay on top of the game. Unfortunately, as in most cases, there is a learning curve and they must release the phones to the public for true feedback. Believe it or not, all of the complaints are making RIM a better company. Watch for software updates and enhanced performance.

My 3rd Tour replacement worked perfectly out of the box. I got home and started loading my purchased apps from App World and the trackball problems started. I called Sprint to cancel my account because nobody took ownership of my problem just kept transferring me around. I got a manager in the cancel/save dept (Acct Services) who said "Sprint only provides the service for the phones. They aren't responsible for phone problems, just for cellular service problems". Dumb_ _ _. Verizon here I come.

I just set my horizontal to the lowest setting, 20, and it still worked perfectly. Slow, but no problem going left to right. So people should have to deal with being forced to adjust their settings, when I can set mine to 20 and it works better then your old Tour did at 70. Sorry you had to go through 6 Tours to get a good one man.

I got my tour the day it came out. thanks to your video, i realized how bad mine was. I called verizonon monday, and told them about the trackball. They said I was past the 30 day return policy, but they said I was still under warranty. They shiped me a replcement. I got it on wednesday. and am so happy I did. The new tour has a better track ball. reception is better. and the battery door is nice and sturdy. Thanks for posting this video

I'm glad I saw this. I have to return mine because of a mic malfunction (No it's not my pinky, I can shout and not be heard with it laying flat in my hand) . Now I see that my trackball isn't how it should be, the backplate has wobble all around, and the screen ripples with the top keys. I like the phone, assuming I can get a quality built one.

i agree with you! my first one died but the ball was amazing! the next two drove me crazy.
I also saw somewhere that if you put your sensitivity to 100 and 100 and scroll left or right and it hops when it gets to the end, its defective. The one i have now (#4) doesn't do that and i doubt yours would either.
