  • this is my favourite daal, especially in summers and with rice it goes so well, but my mom puts in mint leaves instead of coriander leaves, but rest of the recipe is amazingly same. kudos to you.

  • I thought Masoor Dal was the red lentils?

  • @aishoooo wo daal hai, yani dali hoye, chili ya tooti hoye dalna eak process ko kehte hain jiste ke baad wo daal kehlati hai :) ye sirf masoor kehlate hain, daal kaho gi to dhuli hoye dali hoye chili hoye mile gi :)

  • I need a pressure cooker real bad. $27 ? really? I love whole masoor like I love nothing else. I am drooling over my keypad. Thanks, Bajia! :)

  • rice cooker milta hai itne ka, pressure cooker is a dangerous thing always buy a good quality one, keypad bhi khareedna pare ga naya :)

  • baji g plzzz plzz yahi recipee without pressure cooker bta dain..my parents dnt allow me to use pressure cooker..as i m a student living away frm home..plzzz

  • you just need to add more water may be 1 1/2 cup or so. cover it and let it cook on medium heat. till its soft. good luck. parents are always right :)

  • @731mithu pressure cookers are quite cheap: it starts at $27 on amazon. go get your own and be independent from your parents.

while I truly love Bajias cooking, I disagree with her opinion: parents aren't always right. :D good luck!

  • Lot of chilies used in cooking ,not good for routine eating.

  • :)

  • Assalam a alaikum bajia ji, Can I crush this garaam masala instead of adding whole garam masala. Does it effect the taste of daal.?

  • yes it does, a lot.

  • btw i made this once before and it turned out perfect :s so could it be the quality of the daal?.. i used a new pressure cooker today too.

  • @baiboo and the daal i bought today looks very diffrent from what u used. mine is green in color and looks more like small "lobia". i am asking coz i've invited some ppl from work for dinner next week and they've requested daal:)

  • yes they open but not all. thats how it gets thics. give less presure next time

  • 8 min toooo much :) 4 max no more

  • @Bajiascooking thanks for your tips bajia !!I figured out what was wrong (aside from me using too much pressure). The daal they sold me was actually mong dal but it was labelled masoor daal. I am really annoyed at the indian store where i bought it.

  • bajia when i tried making this today, the daal burst, as in the daal grains split open. I used pressure cooker for 8 minutes. what do u recommend i do?

  • can one make this with split masoor?

  • Yes, you can :)

  • I dont know how many times I cooked this Daal....but every time I am loving more and more ......:)

  • I made this last night and it was very tasty! I must say the magic happens with the tadka (in which I also added some green chilli too). MashAllah your recipes never dissappoint me. Lekin woh jo recent "Yaibe" recipe... wo nahi main banaon gi...hate tuna ;-) lol

  • Acha, wah main bhi hari micha daal leti hoon kabhi terke main. aur han i hate tuna too :) but yaibay is a very very nice dish. its unuque.

  • bajia..mere recipe taqreeban same he hai ..lekin i also add half cup of milk in it ...because , kehty hai ke is daal ke taseer buhat garam hoty hai tu milk dalnee se zara teekh ho jata hai ....tu tell me is it true ..kia me yee same recipe follow ker ke ...end pey paktee howe milk add ker dion ...do tell me

  • ye germ serd ka mujhey ilm naheen, hamare haan kabhi ye cheez naheen sunaye di. phir ye recipes wo hain jo meri naheen, hamare purkhon ki amanat hain. main jo ke sikhane walon main se hoon in ko badalne ka haq naheen rakhti. han individuals jaise chahain tabdili ker sakte hain. good luck

  • I have been cooking masoor dal with lots of frying of spices in the pan... but this recipe allows the marinating of spices into the lentils in very awesome and innovative style of cooking in pressure cooker.

I impressed my friends with this recipe.

    Thank you very much

  • You are very welcome! my fathers side master this recipe, my mothers side ruins it :)

    good luck with it!

  • Cook the way you like it. Its all about developing the taste. What I like others might not like that. My recipes are not mine ) thats what coming in my family from my forefathers. Thats what our basics are and our traditional cooking. Pakistani cooking and before 1947 Indian cooking  I leave the basics on you tube! Just there so they are not forgotten.

Its so refreshing. With hot roti, It always reminds me of hot summer afternoons of Karachi.

  • that is too much oil for tadka .Nice dish though thanks .

  • All daals are made very differently. This recipe is only for masoor. Means masoor daal with skin. If you wish you can try and see but I have no idea how its going to be. I will soon upload daal mash and then you will be able to see the difference in recipes.

    Thanks for liking my cooking!

  • is it dat red dhal????if not can i use dat red dhal instead??thanks alot m learning alotttttt from u!...

  • awesome...i'm trying it today

  • good luck! let me know how it came out.

  • No, chana daals recipe is different. Usually its made with GHIYA. Its very nice in meet as well

  • dear sister,

can we cook channa daal in the same way?koz some people like to boil dall first only in watre without adding spices?

  • Real taste gone with our Nani per Nani. Basics lost unfortunately. I was so pleased to hear that I cook like your mum. I dont get much chance with the family to do much on you tube. I feel my page has nothing but I tried, I left my home Pakistan 25 years ago, went back and realized what ever I left behind, its all gone. Jo bhi reh gaya baqi bus hamare ander he reh gaya. We must hold it tight and keep it alive. Our traditions, our culture. That what its all about!

  • Very true - I've actually started to delve more into the home side of things - I'm bored of creating - it's time to go back to basics - real desi food.

But MashAllah your videos are amazing, very clear, consise, precise - brilliant.

    MashAllah.

    Eid Mubaric

  • amazing videos, sister you have put me to shame ;-) .....your videos are like how my mum cooks. MashAllah

  • I saw your cooking yesterday, to be honest I was thinking that this person do have knowledge of basics, Mashaallah you are a professional cook I am nothing, look at my work all haphazard, often saying to the viewers that this dish is not good I dont like it :) ko-e cook kehta hai aise??? Keep it up.

  • love it.. thanks so much.!

  • Thanks!

  • Looks delicious. A fav. today. cheers! KtC

  • It all depends on your cooker. It takes nearly the same time as it takes for meet.

  • How lond does it need to be cooked in the pressure?

  • wow xcllent

  • Thanks!

    Bajia

  • I just watched makhani daal on you tube to know what it is? For makhani daal they used Uradh mean Mash thats a totally different daal. This is Masoor. These foods and lovely names are todays names I am from yesterdayTo my knowledge Daal is called when its washed, split or crushed from the word DUL. All the lentils used as whole grains are not called daal but by their name. like masoor, moong.

  • I love spicy daal.. is it the same daal used for 'Daal Makhani' ?

  • What are you using, lentils?

  • YES! Masoor is the name of lentils. To my knowledge Daal is called when its washed and split or crushed from the word DUL. If we ask for daal masoor than we are going to be given this in split form without black skin and thats in orange-e pink color. Totally a different taste. This food can be called daal but if you want to get the lentils say masoor, all the lentils used as whole grains are not called daal but by their name. like masoor, moong..

  • Very helpful, thank you. I will definetely be trying this recipe :o)

  • And whole black pepper as well No doubt its hot. but no one is going to leave this daal, made it this afternoon and now for dinner just a spoon full left  Try it. you will really enjoy. Pheeki bana-o to sab chor jate hain :)

  • to much of chilli powder

    red chillli+pepper powder +green chilli+chilli flakes :-(

    but looking good.........
